Kolkata Police announces the opening of a Public Grievance Cell at Head Quarters at 18, Street, Kolkata–700001. The cell will work under the direct supervision of the Addl. Commissioner of Police (II), Kolkata who is also the Chief Vigilance Officer of Kolkata Police Force. Any person having specific grievance / grievances against any member of Kolkata Police Force or any Police station / Police Unit under Kolkata Police may lodge complaint before the Officer-in-charge, Public Grievance Cell, 18, Lalbazar Street, Kolkata–700001, giving details of his grievances, date of contacting local Police station / unit and action taken by such Police station / Unit.

The procedures to be adopted for lodging complaint:-

• Directly handover at the Central Receiving Section, Ground Floor, Main Building, 18, Lalbazar Street, Kolkata–700001 of Kolkata Police Head quarters. • Through E-mail, Fax and by post /courier. • E-mail address : [email protected] • Fax No. : 033-2214 5512.

Every complaint received at the cell will be acknowledged within 7 (Seven) days of receipt with a registration number which may be referred to in all future communications. Normally no anonymous / pseudonymous complaint will be entertained. But those, who do not want to disclose their identity for specific reasons may lodge their complaint directly to the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata or Additional Commissioner of Police (II), Kolkata who will dispose of the same on its merit. The Public Grievance Cell will not entertain any complaint relating to a civil dispute in which police has no role to play. Any complaint against public Grievance cell may be lodged with the Commissioner of Police or Additional Commissioner of Police (II), Kolkata.

Status report against complaint received by Public Grievance Cell

The Public Grievance Cell was incepted on 19.11.2007 and since its inception 2486 complaints have been received till 30.06.2019.

In 115 cases the allegations against the police personnel have been substantiated on enquiry and appropriate departmental actions against the concerned police personnel have already been taken.

In 2072 cases the allegation against the police personnel could not be substantiated. 150 complaints have been referred to the concerned department for taking necessary action, as the complaints did not contain any allegation against the personnel of Kolkata Police.

The remaining complaints are being enquired into.
