NINTH ANNUAL COACHING SYMPOSIUM: The Boston Bruins have teamed up with USA Hockey for a day of coaching education on Saturday, November 2. BRUINS ALUMNI GAMES: On Saturday, November 2 at 2 p.m., the Boston Bruins Alumni will face off against Team Landon at the Chelmsford Forum in No. Billerica, MA. The game will benefit the Robert’s Program at Children’s Hospital which provides clinical services for families who have lost a child suddenly and unexpectedly without apparent cause. Tickets are $20 for adults and children under 10 are free. Expected in the line-up are Bobby Carpenter, Ken Linseman, Shawn McEachern and a host of other alumni. Sunday, November 3, the Boston Bruins Alumni will head to Foxboro Sports Center for a 1:30 p.m. puck drop against the Homes for Our Troops Eagles. The game will benefit the Homes for Our Troops program, which provides mortgage-free homes for injured veterans. Tickets will be $20 for adults, $10 for adolescents age 13-18 and children under 12 are free. Joe Mullen, Bob Sweeney and Bob Beers are expected to take the ice with the rest of the alumni team. BFIT PERFORMANCE SERIES: The Boston Bruins BFit Team will hold a BFit Performance Series presented in partnership with the National Guard at South High Community School on Friday, November 1. The 45-minute assembly style presentation is directed at local high school athletic departments and covers a range of topics including leadership, teamwork, nutrition, bullying and more. NEW PROSHOP: Fans can gear up for the season ahead at the new ProShop powered by ‘47, now open on street level at the Hub on Causeway entrance to TD Garden. Fans can shop a variety of authentic team merchandise, customized apparel, exclusive Garden items and more. SKATE & SKI: The Boston Bruins, Loon Mountain, and 98.5 The Sports Hub have teamed up again to bring fans the Skate and Ski package.     72 DIVISION I Ice Hockey DIVISION I 2002 Championship Highlights Gophers Golden in Overtime: Perhaps it was a slight tweak in tradition that propelled Minnesota to the championship April 6 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Not since 1987 had a non-Minnesotan laced up the skates for the Gophers. The streak ended with Grant Potulny, a native of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Potulny scooped up a loose puck and beat Maine goaltender Matt Yeats, 16:58 into overtime, to bring the Gophers their first championship since 1979. When the puck hit the back of the net, the majority of the 19,324 on hand – a Frozen Four record – erupted. The three-session combined attendance at the Xcel Energy Center also set a Frozen Four record, totaling 57,957, to break the mark set at the 1998 championship in Boston’s Fleet Center (54,355). The Eagles managed two goals and the North Dakota goalie Karl Goehring made 51 saves in the Frozen Four, Sioux one after two periods. earning him all-tournament team honors. North Dakota’s Lee Goren — nicknamed “Scorin’ Goren” — posted two third-period goals to help the Sioux to the title. The game-winner scored by North Dakota’s Jason Ulmer, came with 5:34 left in the game. With the championship, North Dakota trails Michigan for the overall lead. The Wolverines have claimed nine national championships.
