Lutheran High School South Class of 1966 50th year reunion September 2-4, 2016 Dear Classmates: A 50th anniversary is a major milestone and indeed a time to celebrate. It’s truly hard to believe that we graduated from Lutheran South 50 years ago. Much has transpired in each of our lives. We’ve lost twelve of our classmates. Some of us have had the privilege of seeing our children attend Lutheran South. Many/most of us have retired and are enjoying grandchildren. We enjoyed reading your biographies and trying to guess who was in the picture you sent.

Lutheran South provided a great foundation for us – educationally, socially, and spiritually. For most of us, those four years bring back wonderful memories of dedicated teachers, close friends, extracurricular events and social gatherings. We hope many of you took the opportunity to tour Lutheran South and see the facility expansions. There’s actually an auditorium replacing the outhouse that mysteriously appeared on the front lawn prior to our graduation.

We’re pleased that 49 of us were able to attend the Reunion Weekend. This represents almost 40% of our class. While we wish more of you could have attended, having that many of us at the Reunion is a testimony to our fond memories of Lutheran South. And, we were blessed to have nine faculty members from our years at South join us on Saturday night.

If you haven’t done so already, please consider a gift to Lutheran South toward the Class of 1966 Reunion Gift. Gifts of any amount are appreciated. You can make a gift by check, credit card or contribution of stock. You can make a 3-year pledge for larger gifts. For specific information you can contact Cheryl Ehrhard at the Lutheran High School Association at [email protected]. We have targeted an outdoor eating area behind the cafeteria for students and other groups to enjoy, but at this point we are still far short of the amount needed to fund this project. So, please consider making a gift, directed to the LHSS Class of 1966 Reunion Gift, as soon as possible. Checks can be mailed to Lutheran High School Association, 5401 Lucas and Hunt Rd., St. Louis, MO 63121.

We hope you enjoy browsing through this “Digital Reunion Book,” and reading about all the different paths we have followed since graduating from Lutheran South. We enjoyed getting back together to plan the Reunion, but even more enjoyed being able to reminisce with so many of you about our times together at Lutheran South.

May God bless you in the years to come, and may He grant us the opportunity to reunite in the future at another Lutheran South Reunion.

Yours in Christ, Mark Bremer Fred Mark Kuhlmann Bob Paul Karen Nolting Paul Linda Groerich Paul Jack Pfitzer

After LHSS graduation I went to Concordia Colleges and eventually St. Louis graduating from Christ Seminary () in 1974. I married my wife Joan in 1976 who I met in my first Parish and have two children Jason and our daughter Jacqueline who will be married the same week as the reunion. I served as pastor of 3 Lutheran congregations all in New Jersey retiring from King of Kings Lutheran Church and school after 40 years in the ministry. I am grateful for my LHSS experience and the many teachers who inspired me.

My wife, Michele and I recently moved to Boston, MA, where she is managing a biotech startup company. It’s been a hectic move, but a lot of fun so far. I have enjoyed adjusting to urban living, but I miss the St. Louis Cardinals…hard to catch a game on TV in Boston. After high school, I attended the University of at Rolla and graduated with a degree in engineering. I spent my career as a consultant in the areas of operations, R&D, business strategy and engineering, which gave me the opportunity to work in a wide range of businesses including automotive industry, aerospace, defense, and electronics. I also was an adjunct professor at for 11 years teaching in the management department. My wife and I have four children, with our youngest, Sam, a freshman at SMU and our daughter, Molly, a senior in the nursing program at Baylor. Our oldest son, Bill, is married to Sarah and the store manager at HH Gregg in Fenton. One other son, David, married to Heather, is a lawyer in Decatur, IL.

After graduating from LHSS I went on to earn an A.A. degree at St. Paul’s College, Concordia, MO and a B.S. degree at Southeast Missouri State University. My first job out of college was teaching business courses at Lutheran High School, Los Angeles. I worked my way to Assistant Operations Officer at Santa Monica Bank. Because of my knowledge of accounting, I was hired as a court clerk after a major embezzlement at the City of North Kansas City Municipal Court. I taught part time at Austin (TX) Community College. I’ve held a Top Secret security clearance while working 23 years for Lockheed Martin in corporate finance and in administrative security. During this time I married Tom Root and had a son Matthew Root who is a student at San Francisco State University. In 2015 I changed jobs and am now employed full time at Raytheon.

I’ve come to enjoy travel. Some of the countries I’ve visited are Japan, India (3X), Italy, Germany (many times), East Germany when it was under Communist rule (2X), Denmark, and Sweden. I’ll be taking a trip to Germany returning a week before the reunion. It will be great to see everyone at the reunion.

Ingrid and I still live in Chesterfield. We have three children and four grandchildren so far. I remain fully engaged in the practice of law, focusing on business litigation, employment law and education law (http://www.shandselbert.com). Years ago Ingrid retired from her position of Director of Admission at Visitation Academy, her alma mater. This year her class too is celebrating its 50th reunion.

Son Sean Casey owns Thunder Electric, an electrical contracting business (http:// www.thunderelectricinc.com). He lives in Eureka with his wife Anna and children Atticus (12) and Adin (10).

Daughter Shannon Falkenstein lives with her family in San Salvador, El Salvador. She is a professional “life coach” and has also just opened Acton Academy (http:// www.actonacademyelsalvador.com), a project based learning school from 1st grade through 12th. Her husband David established the country’s first microbrewery (http:// www.cervezacadejo.com). Their children are Arthur (7) and Ingrid Elena (5).

Son Jonathan married Lisa last June. They live in a rehabbed condo in the historic Marquette Building on Broadway in downtown St Louis. Jonathan walks three blocks to work as a lawyer at Thompson Coburn in the US Bank Building. His office on the 25th floor is one floor above where mine used to be before our firm moved to Clayton. Lisa is an MBA consultant working for PriceWaterhouseCooper.

Ingrid and I enjoy spending time with family and friends and traveling quite a bit. We do all of our own yard work including vegetable gardening. She plays bridge and tennis and volunteers for various causes. Apart from my law practice, I am currently very busy serving as president of the St. Louis Lawyers’ Chapter of the Federalist Society (http://www.fed-soc.org). I also make periodic treks to Valpo as a member of the National Council of the Valparaiso University School of Law.

An avid amateur astronomer since I was a kid, I am the designated astronomer for the St. Louis area to make a 2½-minute high-resolution digital movie of the Sun’s corona during the total eclipse that will occur here on August 21, 2017. I am doing this as a participant in a nation-wide grant funded scientific research project (https://sites.google.com/site/ citizencateexperiment/). I have enlisted and head-up a team of professional physicist- astronomers and educators at Jefferson College to perform the science and to conduct public educational outreach. The College is in Hillsboro, down the road from LHSS on Hwy 21. Thousands are expected to be drawn to that location, which will be very near the centerline of the path of totality.

Enough of the nerdy stuff. Here’s a shot of the clan -- all cleaned up -- at Jonathan’s wedding last year, with daughter Shannon’s family on the left and son Sean’s on the right.

Retirement has not lost its charm. I'm volunteering one day a week at Petsmart caring for adoptable cats from St. Louis Pet Rescue. Two days a week I volunteer in the library at Green Park Lutheran School where I can continue doing the fun parts of librarianship without the not so fun parts. Other activities include a home study, church choir, a very small writing group, and helping to facilitate a Grief Share program at our church. My sisters, both nurses, are beginning to think about retirement and Cousin George Eigel (Class of '68) retired and became a grandfather for the first time last year, so there's a lot more family time in the future.

The Life of Dale Fiehler (In 300 Words or Less)

After high school, I received a BS degree, was drafted and spent time in Vietnam as a medic, went back to college with round two at San Jose State in California and received a second BS degree, this time in accounting. I worked in public accounting as a CPA for 30 years, initially in California and ultimately in St. Louis. For the last 20 of those years I owned a CPA practice with another individual. In 2004 I decided I wanted to do something different and sold my part of the firm to my partner and bought a cattle ranch about an hour outside of St. Louis. In December of 2015, I sold the ranch and now am exploring the world with my wife. I married a fellow Lutheran High grad, Barb Kaiser, and we had two sons. We divorced many years ago and my current wife, Sharon, and I have been together about 25 years. My sons, Ryan and Tagg, are both married. Ryan is a PhD molecular geneticist involved in cancer research in Cambridge, England; his wife is from Istanbul Turkey and also has a PhD in molecular genetics. They have two children, ages 4 and 6. My second son, Tagg, married three years ago and his wife has two teenage children so I also have two step-grandchildren. Tagg lives in the St. Louis area and is in the wine business; his wife works in the legal profession. I have been actively involved with the Sheldon Arts Foundation in St. Louis for a number of years, having been Chairman of the Board and now a Vice Chairman. I also served as a docent at the St. Louis Zoo for 10 years and on the Board of COCA (Center of Creative Arts). Sharon and I have been avid supporters of the St. Louis Zoo, Missouri Botanical Garden, Junior Achievement, Scholarship Program, and Cardinal baseball having been season ticket holders since 1988. Sharon and I exited St. Louis this past year and we now live between our homes in Scottsdale, Arizona and Lake Tahoe, California. We travel extensively both in the US and internationally; we are avid golfers, hikers, bike riders and snow skiers. And every autumn, I look forward to an annual poker weekend with Bill, Bob, Jeff, Rick and Tom. Life is Good.

WOW--50 years since we walked the halls of LHSS. Many of us have been successful and others have suffered hardships, but one thing we have in common is our Christian upbringing and faith our parents passed along to us with the Christian education we received at South.

I am thankful for the 38 years I spent with my husband Rick. Although our life together ended quickly in 2008 I am still blessed with my children Christine and Timothy. Chris lives in Thousand Oaks CA with her children Ellie age 9 and Owen and Grace age 6 who attend Wildwood Elementary. Chris is the Director of Residence Life and Student Conduct at California Lutheran University where she has been for 15 years. In June of 2016 she received her EdD Educational Leadership Program from UCLA. Tim and his wife Laura live in St. Peter's MO with Brandon 7 and Jenna 5. Both children attend Messiah Lutheran School in Weldon Springs. Tim is the Assistant VP of Merchant Services at PNC Bank and Laura is a 1st grade teacher at Mid Rivers Elementary School in the Ft Zumwalt school district.

I retired last December from Edward Jones after 21 years of service. In my spare time I work part time for Edward Jones, travel, keep up with the 5 grandchildren, play handbells and sing in the parish Choir at Salem Lutheran Church in Affton. I also enjoy my volunteer work in the church office on Friday mornings.

May God continue to guide and bless each of you as you reflect and share memories with your fellow classmates.

Pat shares with us.....

After graduating, I attended and graduated from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing and St. Louis University. I was married to Paul Borgman in May 1972 and we went to MN where we lived for 10 years. Paul was pastor of two congregations and during that time and our three sons, Michael, Joel and Stephen were born. From MN we come to Oconomowoc, WI in 1982. I continued working at our local hospital while attending Grad. School at the University of WI- Milwaukee. I graduated in Dec. 1988 and worked at a Continuing Care Community, Shorehaven, as Asst. Dir. Of Nursing/Geriatric CNS and Occupational Health Nurse. In March 2015, I retired from Shorehaven. I have been very involved in the WI Nurses Association, serving on various committees, and as Secretary, Treasurer and President. In retirement, I work to enjoy my passions…Paul and I travel when we are able. We have been to various places in Europe and the Americas. I want to travel Route 66 with a growing group of girlfriends and would like to go to all the National Parks before I die. I began doing genealogical research after our first son was born in 1973 and continue to dig for dead relatives. However, the finding of living ones is much more enjoyable and now I am working with cousins to finish the various family trees and share the information about my Saxon and Hanoverian German ancestors in Missouri through presentations at conferences and online. Our sons live close to us and we have 4 wonderful grandchildren with whom I spend as much time as I can. We travel the state of Wisconsin to see the beautiful and interesting places we have here and to enjoy experiences that are unique to WI. I have sung in our church choir since 1982, regularly play my trombone for worship, and play in our handbell choir. I served as Chair of the History Committee for our congregation’s 150th Anniversary in 2015 and wrote our congregation’s history along with a friend. We produced 170 pages of work which was submitted to the Concordia Historical Institute for consideration in their annual awards program. I translated and transcribed our church records from 1865-1896 and have completed an Index of the baptisms. We are working on the marriages and deaths and burials Index and plan to post it on our St. Paul’s website. I have lived a very blessed life and pray that I have been a blessing to others. I look forward to spending time with you, my classmates, in Sept.

Note from Coy on 9/15/16....

Sorry I couldn’t make it, but was trying desperately to include it with a trip back to STL to pick up a plane-a Mooney aircraft, as I am a dealer. I got in a week late, but did manage to take in Ted Drews-not that I needed to, mind you.

I moved to SW Costal Flordia in ’81, and not looked back to gray skies and dirty snow much since. I do however get back occasionally for business either flying myself in a Mooney, or commercially. Last weekend I drove through Ellisville and Ballwin and didn’t recognize the place-what with running water, inside johns, and electricity!

Amazingly at my age I find myself being a single (custodial) parent of a high school senior (boy-Chase), and besides flying, I enjoy motocycles and (of course) boating. While I still don’t understand how it happened, I find myself with 5 kids and 4 grandkids. Had I known how much fun grandkids were, I would have had them first!

While I don’t do social media much, I do have a page on Facebook, but feel free to email me anytime, and drop in if you ever find yourself in SW Florida as I have a spare bedroom, BBQ, pool/hot tub, and normally great weather!

Please keep in touch, and I promise I will see you all in 5 years!

In the fall of 1966 I attended Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1969. At that time I began working at Lutheran Hospital and married a Seminary student, Timothy Wenger. After his year at graduate school, we moved to Wisconsin Rapids, WI to begin pastoral ministry at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. During Tim's 40 years in the full time ministry, I worked at our local hospital for a few years.

During many of the years that our children were growing, I took time off from nursing and spent the time as room mother, car pool mom, baseball and basketball mom, etc. I also became assistant teacher at our church preschool, eventually spending 29 years as director.

When the boys were in college, I returned to nursing and spent 23 years in long term and rehab nursing, retiring one year ago. Now we enjoy our family and lots of their activities, as well as church activities.

Our children are Eric (a pastor) and his wife Carrie (a teacher). They have 4 children, 11-17 years old. Christopher (contractor) and his fiance' Lisa (a nursing assistant). Her daughter is 8 years old. Elisa (mortgage processor) and husband Jake (a counselor for jobless and homeless Vets). Their children are 18 and 14 years old. Angela (pizza cook and manager) and husband Wesley (diesel mechanic). Her son is 17 years old.

The family is active and family times are important. We have been very blessed through good times and some difficult times, and thank the Lord for the life He has given us.

I graduated from Washington University in 1970 and Harvard Law School in 1973. In 1967 I met Barbara Nierman who was a member at Concordia Kirkwood, and we were married in 1970.

After about two years in private practice at the Stolar Partnership in St. Louis, I joined the Law Department at McDonnell Douglas Corporation (MDC) in 1975. Most of my time at MDC was in the legal area with the last six years as Sr. VP & General Counsel; I also spent four years running their commercial information systems businesses. I left MDC after the merger with Boeing and became President of Systems Service Enterprises (SSE), an information systems business specializing in network services and eLearning development. While I still do limited legal work for SSE, I’m basically retired at this point.

Barb attended Valpo for one year, but then graduated from Webster University with a major in art. She taught art in the Boston area while I was in Law School and then for a few more years in St. Louis before our children were born. She returned to teach art at St. Paul’s, Des Peres, where we are members, when our children were in 6th-8th grades.

Barb and I love spending time at our summer home in Arcadia on Lake Michigan. We also enjoy reading travel, bridge and golf. Barb is also an avid knitter, seamstress and water color artist.

I’ve had the privilege of serving on many Boards in St. Louis, including the Lutheran High School Association, which I chaired for five years. I’ve also served on the Boards of Grace Place Wellness Ministries, the Lutheran Foundation of St. Louis, Lutheran Medical Center, what is now Lutheran Senior Services, Concordia Plan Services at the LCMS and United Way. I am currently on the Boards for Thrivent Financial headquartered in Minneapolis and the Municipal Theater Association of St. Louis (the MUNY). I have enjoyed a couple of terms as President of St. Paul’s, Des Peres.

Our son, F. Matthew Kuhlmann, was born in 1976 and attended Lutheran South and Emory University for both undergraduate and medical school. He is now an MD specializing in infectious disease at Washington University and Barnes Hospital. He and his wife Anne have two children, Caitlin (10) and Andrew (8). Anne is an Assistant Professor in Public Health at St. Louis University.

Our daughter, Sarah, was born in 1978 and attended Lutheran South and Vanderbilt University where she met her husband, David Morgan. I am still living in Charleston, West Virginia, with my husband Bill, of almost 40 years. The musical scene in Charleston is lively, and provided me with the opportunity to sing in a community women’s chorus called womanSong, from 1999 to 2014. I toured with the choir in Italy in 2014, and sang at the Cantate Adriatica Music Festival. I held the position of organist at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church for some 12 years, until 2010. I am now officially retired from all musical positions, although I have served in various church offices at Redeemer Lutheran Church, which put my education degree to use. We host a luncheon and Bible Study in our home once a month. We also have an orchard where I have learned to make apple butter, pear butter, pear jelly and grape jelly. We also have peach, cherry and plum trees. We plant a garden and can during the summer months. Now, in retirement, most of our time is spent at our three grandsons’ baseball and basketball games, with lots of tournaments. We enjoy traveling to Florida in the winter and also have a passion for mission trips to Guatemala. I enjoy gardening, walking, yoga and pilates.

I do want to add that as I reflect on my high school education, I am really thankful that I had the opportunity to attend Lutheran South. I think back on the wonderful, caring teachers that helped prepare me for life and the friendships that helped mold me.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone! It doesn’t feel like it can actually be our 50th reunion!!!! We can’t really be that old!!!!!!! REALLY???????

I moved to Chicago in 1974, played clubs and the college circuit, and later worked for an entertainment agency called Blytham Ltd. We booked all different kinds of acts in the college market and I continued to perform myself. I became interested in fine art and worked as an art consultant for an art gallery in Chicago from 1984-93. I opened my own gallery, Byron Roche Gallery, in the River North gallery area in Chicago and operated it from 1993-2010. We specialized in contemporary paintings and also featured many concerts in the gallery, www.byronroche.com. My wife Paula and I have twin daughters that are 14 years old and they are just starting high school this year. These days besides driving the girls around, I work as a private art dealer and still play music. Listen to a couple tunes if you want to: www.reverbnation.com/byronroche/songs

Came back to St Louis in 1968 after graduating from UEI in Louisville, KY as a Electronic Technician. Attended night school at Washington University's while working part time in the computer lab. This led to a great relationship with a professor who mentored me. He actually helped me secure my first job as a Developer in IT. Over the years, I wrote code in three languages and designed systems for several companies. The last fifteen years of my career resulted in traveling over 2.2 million air miles managing IT projects in Sydney, Australia; Chenai, India; Toronto, Canada; and numerous major cities in the US. During that time, I was a Project Manager and Director for Cap Gemini America, and MasterCard International. I retired at fifty five and have enjoyed my retirement with my wife Marie of 44 years, my daughter Jennifer and her husband Tim and our granddaughter Maddie. I now spend most of my time with my granddaughter, playing golf, fishing, and traveling.

In 1971 I graduated from UMSL with an Elementary Teaching degree. I taught Kindergarden and First Grade until 1977. From 1977 to 2014 my main occupation was wife and mother. Along with that, I worked part-time doing long term substitute teaching, tutoring, and homebound education. Starting in 1992 until the present, I have been the “ofce person” for a neighbor who has a carpentry business. John and I enjoy being grandparents, traveling – especially to visit family, and the relaxing pace of retirement. Less family commitment has allowed me more time to be blessed being active in women’s Bible Study and mission groups at Zion Lutheran in Harvester, MO. Also, during the last ten years I have worked with several organic farmers and enjoy learning about and practicing sustainable and non-chemical gardening. God has truly been with me during the last 50 years and I’m thankful for His grace and blessings to my family and myself. The Christian education from LHSS is part of those blessings.

After graduating from South, I attended Valparaiso for 3 semesters. During that time Larry and I grew closer and more committed to each other and so, we were married on August 31, 1968. I had begun doing hospital work as a nursing assistant before our marriage and continued that while Larry attended Valpo and throughout Larry’s seminary days.

It was when Larry did vicarage in Denver, Colorado that our son Todd was born. Larry’s first call was to Colorado Springs, Colorado and there our second son Matthew was born. When Larry accepted a call to Peoria, Illinois – yes, one more time – we added our daughter Amanda to our family.

I had begun attending a community college in Peoria, one course at a time, thanks to a dear member of our congregation that cared for the children, spoiling them like a grandma. When Larry accepted a call to Madison, Wisconsin and we were settled in our home, I began a state- licensed family childcare and loved caring for three infants and one toddler. The time became right in our family for me to return to college in 1986; I was thrilled that all of my Valpo and my community college credits transferred to the University of Wisconsin, Madison. Go, Badgers!

With a Master’s degree in social work in 1989 I gained a job with United Cerebral Palsy as a program director. Until August 2015 when I retired, I oversaw the activities of staff who worked with parents and their children under the age of 3 who had developmental delays and disabilities. The arrival of our grandchildren, Henry (14) and Ellie (11) to Todd and Mandi, and Joseph (12) to Matt blessed our family during those years. Amanda and her husband, Chris, became foster parents last year and have had our foster-granddaughter Isana (2) with them for the past seven months. We also have two step-grandchildren, Katlyn (17) and Justin (15), children of Matt’s wife Kelly.

P.S. Larry and I both love to travel, and we love being retired.

Following graduation from LHSS in 1966, I followed the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod's prescribed pre-ministerial path - first to Concordia Lutheran Junior College, Ann Arbor, MI; then to , Ft. Wayne, IN; and then to Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO. Two major interruptions changed my life's path. First, at Concordia, Ann Arbor I met a girl, Kathleen Buuck, who became my wife. A teacher, musician, and magazine editor, she added more grace notes to my life than I can count. We married in 1971. In 1973, the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod declared the majority of faculty members at Concordia Seminary to be guilty of teaching doctrine "not to be tolerated in the church of God." As a seminarian in my final year of studies, I supported the condemned faculty majority and worked with them to form Concordia Seminary in Exile (Seminex) from which I graduated with an MDiv in 1974. I received a second master's (STM) in 1981 from the same faculty, then organized as Christ Seminary-Seminex. In 1975 Kathleen and I moved to Chicago, IL where I began studies in a Ph.D program at the Divinity School of the University of Chicago and Kathleen began work at The Christian Century magazine. I was ordained into the Holy Ministry at Grace Lutheran Church, River Forest, IL, where I served as assistant pastor from 1978-81 (full time), 1981-90 (part-time). During those Chicago years I completed my Ph.D in in the History of Christianity (1983), worked as Director of Research and Publications at the Park Ridge Center for the Study of Health, Faith, and Ethics (1984-90), and directed two national research projects on America's religious congregations (churches, synagogues, and mosques) at the Divinity School's Institute for the Advanced Study of Religion. Our two children, Joshua (now a neurosurgeon practicing in Washington, DC) and Rachel (now a director of philanthropy at a major youth serving organization in Chicago) were born in 1980 and 1984. In 1990 our young family moved to Indianapolis where I began work as Program Director in the Religion Division of Lilly Endowment, Inc., one of our nation's largest foundations. There I directed three grant making programs: American Congregations, Theological Education and Spiritual Formation of the People of God, and Religion and Public Life. In 1995, the Alban Institute, a major resource provider for American congregations, called me to serve as its president, a post I held for the next 19 years. In order to play that role our family moved to the Washington, DC, area (Reston, VA), where Kathleen and I still reside. During those Washington years, I authored numerous publications and also served on several governing boards: Children's Chorus of Washington, the Indianapolis Center for Congregations (created by the Alban Institute and the Lilly Endowment), Partners for Sacred Places, Odyssey Networks (an interfaith media company), Washington National Cathedral, The Board of Commissioners of the Association of Theological Schools, and the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs. After retiring from the Alban Institute in 2014, I became Director of the Large Church Leadership Project at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, DC, where I currently serve as Visiting Distinguished Professor. Favorite activities include: doting on four grandchildren (Anna, Nora, Hugh, and Louisa), traveling as much as possible, regularly visiting the wineries of Virginia, and taking in as much of the cultural life of Washington, DC as we can.

After graduation at LHSS I attended Southeast Missouri State College that fall and graduated with a BS in Secondary Education in the spring of 1970. My major was Biology and minored in History. After failing to secure a teaching position in St. Louis because of a teachers strike, I began working to a small window and door supplier, Pella Products of St. Louis.

In the fall of 1971 I married Marty Gygax. Marty is a 1968 graduate of Principia High School and we are still happily married. When we met, Marty was no longer a practicing Christian Scientist and converted to the Lutheran faith after we were married. We began attending Timothy Lutheran where we are still members. We have two children and four grandchildren.

Our older child Judy is married with three children and lives in Spokane Washington. Our second child Phil lives in St. Louis and has one child. I continued to work at Pella Products and Pella Windows and Doors in various positions from operations manager, service manager, retail replacement sales and still work 32 hours a week as a showroom sale specialist and sales trainer. My wife worked as an executive secretary, then in education with Special Lutheran, The St. Michael School and Southwest Baptist before retiring in 2012.
