Lo scrivono, in una nota, il Parlamentare europeo e Vicepresidente dell'Europarlamento Fabio Massimo Castaldo e la Senatrice Giulia Lupo, eletti in quota M5S. "Insieme agli europarlamentari Isabella Adinolfi, Mario Furore, Dino Giarrusso e Daniela Rondinelli depositiamo oggi due interrogazioni alla Commissione europea affinché chiarisca la natura delle sue decisioni", continuano. "Non è chiaro infatti quale normativa comunitaria sta utilizzando per giustificare la sua richiesta di discontinuità per Ita rispetto ad Alitalia e se questa discontinuità possa arrivare fino a definire elementi essenziali quali il perimetro aziendale e la grandezza della flotta. Inoltre - scrive ancora Castaldo - va chiarito come mai agli altri Paesi europei sia stato concesso di apportare un aumento di capitale da parte dell’investitore pubblico, mentre all’Italia si chiede di realizzare un’operazione alle normali condizioni di mercato. Questo comporta una discriminazione, tanto più che è di dubbia certezza giuridica la decisione di impedire all’Italia di mantenere gli slot su Linate che, nell’intenzione della Vicepresidente Vestager, andrebbero ceduti ad altri vettori". 8 marzo 2020 Caro Presidente Sassoli, Ti scriviamo per esprimere la nostra profonda preoccupazione per la diffusione della malattia infettiva causata dal coronavirus COVID-19 in Europa e per richiedere ulte- riori misure di sicurezza per salvaguardare i Membri del Parlamento europeo, il per- sonale e la popolazione locale. Come ben sai, il livello di emergenza legato alla diffusione di questo virus è note- volmente aumentato nel corso delle ultime ore: il numero di casi confermati si sta moltiplicando in molti Stati membri, compreso il Belgio, e sono state confermate nuove aree di contagio. Misure di sicurezza straordinarie sono state adottate dalle autorità pubbliche di tutta Europa e intere aree sono state messe in quarantena. Il numero di casi confermati è in costante aumento in Belgio e a Bruxelles e questa settimana abbiamo riscontrato i primi casi di nuovi coronavirus nelle istituzioni del- l'UE. Sebbene apprezziamo che siano già state adottate misure straordinarie per far fron- te a questa emergenza, riteniamo che la situazione in rapida evoluzione e i maggiori rischi per la salute richiedano ulteriori misure di sicurezza come l'immediata interru- zione di tutti i lavori parlamentari, compresa la prossima sessione plenaria, come misura precauzionale. Il Parlamento europeo, con oltre 5000 persone che vi lavorano e viaggiano regolar- mente tra la loro città natale e Bruxelles, ha il potenziale per diventare un focolaio di trasmissione del coronavirus. The sector has been affected in severe ways by this unexpected crisis, and we need a strong support to help the workers and the families depending by one of the most important economic field in Europe. Nevertheless, we need an additional effort from the Commission in order to prevent any discrimination between Member States. In fact, the “Communication towards a phased and coordinated approach for restoring freedom of movement and lifting internal border controls” (C(2020)3250) states that “Measures to be taken at national level to gradually lift travel restrictions should take into consideration [...] the assessment of approximation of epidemiological situations in the Member States”. That could cause some discrimination, and could also give the possibility to create internal bilateral agreements penalizing some Member States. Of course, we need to keep the health security as priority, and to put in place every measure to control and prevent the spreading of the epidemic, but, at the same time, we need a strong coordination by European Commission to prevent any form of bilateral agreements against the principles of the internal market. Hence, we asks the Commission to block any form of “tourism corridors” between Member States that could affect a fair restoration of the market. The Spanish Government views euthanasia of healthy animals that could instead be adopted as a means of solving the problem of stray animals and overcrowding in animal shelters — a view that is at odds with Article 13 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union, under which animals must be regarded as ‘sentient beings’ and treated as such. While in the shelters, the animals are deprived of care and often also of food and water, and the methods used to kill them are inhumane. With reference to Parliament's resolutions of 4 July 2012 on the establishment of an EU legal framework for the protection of pets and stray animals (2012/2670(RSP)) and 26 November 2015 on a new animal welfare strategy for 2016-2020 (2015/2957(RSP)), can the Commission say whether: — it intends to put an end to this slaughter; — it can put forward a legislative framework that will afford animals, in particular dogs and cats, minimum standards of protection throughout the EU and expressly ban the practice of euthanasia; — the EU intends to take practical steps to protect the lives of dogs, and of pets in general, throughout the Union? THE NEW EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT KEY COMMITTEE COMPOSITION 31 JULY 2019 INTRODUCTION After several marathon sessions, the European Council agreed on the line-up for the EU “top jobs” on 2 July 2019. The deal, which notably saw German Defence Minister Ursula von der Leyen (CDU, EPP) surprisingly designated as the next European Commission (EC) President, meant that the European Parliament (EP) could proceed with the election of its own leadership on 3 July. The EPP and Renew Europe (formerly ALDE) groups, in line with the agreement, did not present candidates for the EP President. As such, the vote pitted the S&D’s David-Maria Sassoli (IT) against two former Spitzenkandidaten – Ska Keller (DE) of the Greens and Jan Zahradil (CZ) of the ACRE/ECR, alongside placeholder candidate Sira Rego (ES) of GUE. Sassoli was elected President for the first half of the 2019 – 2024 mandate, while the EPP (presumably EPP Spitzenkandidat Manfred Weber) would take the reins from January 2022. The vote was largely seen as a formality and a demonstration of the three largest Groups’ capacity to govern. However, Zahradil received almost 100 votes (more than the total votes of the ECR group), and Keller received almost twice as many votes as there are Greens/EFA MEPs. This forced a second round in which Sassoli was narrowly elected with just 11 more than the necessary simple majority. Close to 12% of MEPs did not cast a ballot. MEPs also elected 14 Vice-Presidents (VPs): Mairead McGuinness (EPP, IE), Pedro Silva Pereira (S&D, PT), Rainer Wieland (EPP, DE), Katarina Barley (S&D, DE), Othmar Karas (EPP, AT), Ewa Kopacz (EPP, PL), Klara Dobrev (S&D, HU), Dita Charanzová (RE, CZ), Nicola Beer (RE, DE), Lívia Járóka (EPP, HU) and Heidi Hautala (Greens/EFA, FI) were elected in the first ballot, while Marcel Kolaja (Greens/EFA, CZ), Dimitrios Papadimoulis (GUE/NGL, EL) and Fabio Massimo Castaldo (NI, IT) needed the second round.

The miseries of the people of Jammu and Kashmir have been amply documented in the International Human Rights Watch World Report 2021 as well as the reports of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in 2018 and 2019. This Indian-administered region had already suffered a debilitating lockdown since the revocation of its special status in 2019, and the restraints on the rights to movement, access to information, health care, education as well as free speech have been intensified by the Covid-19 pandemic. Journalists and human rights defenders have been increasingly targeted for raising their voice in support of the Kashmiri people and denounce their situation. Arbitrary detentions continue, public assembly is still prohibited under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure 1973 (CrPC) and hundreds, including minors and several elected legislators of Jammu and Kashmir, remain under preventive detention. Unfortunately, a number of legislations introduced by the Indian governments over the years to prevent terrorism and separatism, including the Special Powers Act (SPA), the Armed Forces Special Protection Act (AFSPA) and the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), have been often misused against the Kashmiri population.

Dr Stella Kyriakides Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, European Commission And Dr Thierry Breton Commissioner for Internal Market, European Commission And: Dr Rafael Mariano Grossi IAEA Director Subject: Transport of Radiopharmaceuticals in the European Union Brussels, 22th April 2020 Dear Commissioners, Dear Director during this pandemic period, the outcome of which is unknown, we must continue to ensure that services in the hospitals are provided to patients who require radiopharmaceutical care. Radiopharmaceuticals are drugs that are used for imaging diagnosis and therapy. Radiopharmaceuticals are crucial to provide CT scans for COVID-19 patients (SPECT/CT and PET/CT imaging) as well as for fragile patient populations, such as cancer and cardiac patients. Due to the radioactive part the shelf life is extremely limited and measured in hours and days. Whereas most regular drugs have shelf lives of months or years and can be produced in mass quantities, radiopharmaceuticals are produced in much smaller quantities and have to be produced for delivery just in time. This is often the day after production, and they are given to a patient usually on that day. In case of a imaging procedure, the scan also takes place the same day. This means that in the EU countries in over 90% of cases the time between the patient dose being ordered, produced, shipped and the actual diagnostic or therapeutic test is 24 hours. Furthermore, these short timeframes are extremely important since a radiopharmaceutical that cannot be used on the day of delivery and preparation in the hospital must be discarded. These days, the number of controls at the borders have seriously increased (potentially causing delays) and the administrative demands are sometimes hard to follow and fulfil.

Nautical products in the Single Market under COVID-19 Brussels, April 28th 2020 To the attention of the Commissioner for the Internal Market, Mr. Thierry Breton, Dear Commissioner, The current internal EU border closures are producing widespread negative effects on the nautical sector and on the delivery of its products. The sector employs 280.000 workers across the EU and 95% of its companies are SMEs, supporting local jobs. It is therefore essential that these companies continue to deliver to customers. Maintaining production is capital for the liquidity of manufacturers and all companies along the supply chain, which supports jobs in an industry that is already severely affected by COVID-19. Any negative impact will be particularly felt in coastal and peripheral regions, islands, and along inland waterways where companies from the sector are primarily located. As this sector has a strong seasonal nature, it is essential that it is supported at EU and national level. One of the most severe limitation for nautical companies nowadays concerns the means of delivery of the final products. Several Member States have obliged companies to use lorries for deliveries as a reaction to the COVID-19 outbreak, but it should be noted that recreational boats cannot always be transported by lorry. We therefore urge you to protect the Single Market, the liquidity of its enterprises and jobs by clarifying that delivery of nautical products should be possible by whichever means suitable. This should include delivery of boats directly by sea, lorry, trailer, and collection by the customer, avoiding any excessive measures or additional burden.
