What I love most about the Mass Communications and Design program is that you become immediately involved in their extracurricular activities as a frst-year student. My frst year, I was a staf writer for the newspaper, a radio sports broadcaster, and I hosted a TV show! My experiences in the program have landed me internships with ESPN Radio, the Wilkes-Barre/ Scranton Penguins, and the Philadelphia Phillies. Now that I am a graduate, I will be returning to the Phillies as a freelancer, working alongside their TV broadcast crew. I am incredibly grateful for everything that this program has done for me, not only academically, but personally as well. ~ Sean Lynch ’18 B.A. Mass Communications and Design

8 Misericordia was just one of numerous college acceptances lying on my dining room table four years ago. I chose Misericordia; and in hindsight, I defnitely made the right pick. An injury to my shoulder during a sofball game landed me in physical therapy, and my PT, who was excellent, was a Misericordia graduate. Tis inspired my choice of school and major; but, in the back of my mind, I wanted to become a doctor. Further in the back of my mind, I was not sure it was possible. Hard work and Misericordia, though, made it possible. Starting with bio I and chem I, the professors were excellent. Tey love what they are doing. Tey love where they are, and they love their students. I was a laboratory assistant, organic chemistry and calculus tutor, and I did summer research with Dr. Jefrey Stephens in biophysics and with Dr. Charles Saladino in biochemistry. I even got to present my research at a national scientifc conference in Washington, DC. Misericordia’s convenient location also allowed me to volunteer at two local hospitals and shadow generous physicians in my spare time. Afer multiple acceptances to US MD and DO programs, I soon start the next step of my journey at Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine in Scranton as a frst-year medical student. Misericordia believed in me. Together, we made it happen. I believe in Misericordia. ~ Andrea Nale ’17 B.S. Biology Graduate School: Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine

14 ALUMNI SUCCESS

Misericordia is more than a school to me, it is a home. I have made life-long connections at Misericordia, from peers to faculty. Every member of the English Department challenged me to grow, academically and as a person, while providing the encouragement I needed to succeed. Teir unfailing support has gotten me through tough new experiences at a time that can be very uncertain for many people. Te knowledge I gained from Misericordia allows me to be confdent in myself while pursuing a master’s degree in the UK, a goal that my professors helped me to achieve. My time studying in England has given me a broader sense of the world and an opportunity to enjoy new cultures. I have learned to be a more independent researcher both academically and socially. Te variety of people I have met on my journey, all with their own unique story, astounds me. Misericordia taught me about many diferent ways that people live, preparing me to recognize these diferences and allowing me a deeper appreciation and understanding of these cultures.

~ Taylor Rupp ’17, B.A. English M.A. English, University of Reading, UK

Misericordia doesn’t just have professors, they employ mentors who not only educate but also provide knowledgeable guidance to each student. During our daughter’s time with Misericordia, her courses were challenging but she was provided all the support she needed to excel. Because of the personalized guidance and recommendations of her Misericordia professors, she was accepted to a one-year Graduate program at the University of Reading in the United Kingdom. She continued to garner support from her mentors at Misericordia throughout her Graduate program and remains in close contact with them to this day.
