PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: June 27, 2013 Nicki Hampton, 312-822-0512 NATIONAL RADIO HALL OF FAME ANNOUNCES CLASS OF 2013 Steve Dahl and Garry Meier, Blair Garner, John Lanigan, Paul W. Smith, Eddie “Piolín” Sotelo, Charley Steiner and the late Powel Crosley Jr. CHICAGO ---The National Radio Hall of Fame (NRHOF) today announced its induction Class of 2013. The black-tie ceremony, hosted by broadcast icon Larry King, will take place on Saturday, November 9 at the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago. Jim Bohannon of Dial Global Networks will be the announcer for the ceremony and broadcast. The Class of 2013 includes a dynamic and trend setting team that changed the Chicago radio landscape and pushed the medium’s content limits, a Nashville country music veteran with a national following, broadcast legends in Cleveland and Detroit, one of the most respected play-by-play voices in baseball, the most successful Mexican personality in Los Angeles and nationwide, and an innovative genius from Cincinnati who was a pioneer in programing, management and manufacturing. The Class of 2013 includes: Steve Dahl and Garry Meier In March 1979, Steve Dahl was doing a morning show at WLUP-FM where he met overnight DJ Garry Meier. The two began a cross talk that eventually led to Meier teaming up with Dahl as both sidekick and reporter. The duo moved to WLS-AM/FM for five years, then returned to the WLUP-AM in 1986, and came full circle September 1993, moving over to their original WLUP-FM home. They became the most talked about radio team in the city’s history, a generation ushering in an era of content envelope pushing that was imitated nationwide. Each also developed successful careers when the duo went their separate. Blair Garner Blair Garner hosts the highly acclaimed Country radio show “After MidNite,” a six- hour nationally syndicated program that airs on approximately 230 affiliates. Garner’s recognized as one of the nation’s leading on-air hosts and has received recognition every year from the Academy of Country Music, Country Aircheck, Country Music Association and the Country Radio Broadcasters. In 2003, 2005 and 2011Garner won the Academy of Country Music’s “On-Air Personality of the Year” Award in the national category. In addition, he will celebrate his 20-year anniversary in national syndication November this year. John Lanigan John Lanigan came to WGAR 1220 AM to replace Don Imus in the 1970’s and had a very successful run as the morning man until he left for a Florida station in February 1984. In 1985, he returned to Cleveland and went to work at WMJI. John Lanigan began his morning show along with newscaster John Webster on September 17, 1985 with local comedian Jimmy Malone. The highly rated morning show “Lanigan & Malone Show" has remained intact ever since. During this period, WMJI achieved the highest total weekly listenership of any Cleveland radio station in the 1990s. Paul W. Smith Paul W. Smith is the radio news talk show host at WJR-AM and has been with WJR since July 1996. He has been a regular fill-in on "The Rush Limbaugh Show," "The Sean Hannity Show" and even subbed for the legendary Paul Harvey. He has hosted shows on the ABC Radio Network and the former Financial News Network as well as in Philadelphia, New York City and Toledo. A University of Michigan graduate, Smith devotes time to many public service groups, including Think Detroit PAL. Eddie “Piolín” Sotelo Eddie Sotelo’s show, "Piolín por la Mañana," runs weekday mornings on KSCA in Southern California. The LA Times has ranked Sotelo among the 100 most powerful people in Southern California. His show, broadcast entirely in Spanish for a Spanish speaking audience, is one of the most popular shows on Los Angeles radio. Apart from his commitment to his listeners, Eddie “Piolín” Sotelo is also one of the most sought after radio personalities in the nation for personal appearances and with regular appearances on numerous national television shows. Charley Steiner Charley Steiner began his professional broadcasting career in 1969 at WIRL- AM/Peoria, Illinois. Before landing his current play-by-play job with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Steiner broadcast three years for the New York Yankees. Prior to his seasons with the Yankees, Steiner spent 14 years at ESPN, where he anchored SportsCenter and did Major League Baseball play-by-play on both ESPN Radio and Television. He was also was the voice for ESPN 2's Saturday Primetime football. Powel Crosley Jr. (posthumous) In the 1920’s, Powel Crosley purchased a booklet titled "The A.B.C. of Radio," after his son asked for a radio and he discovered it was $100. Powel and his son eventually built their own radio and soon Crosley was manufacturing radios and its components. By 1924, Crosley Radio Corporation was the largest radio manufacturer in the world—with the slogan "You’re There With A Crosley" used in all advertising. On March 22, 1922, Crosley Broadcasting Corporation began operating WLW/Cincinnati, a 50-watt radio station. Throughout the 1930s, Cincinnati's WLW was truly "the Nation's Station," producing many hours of network programming every week. Red Skelton, Doris Day, Jane Froman, Fats Waller, Rosemary Clooney, and the Mills Brothers all performed live from the WLW's studios. Crosley also developed radio’s earliest "soap operas" with sponsorship by Procter & Gamble. Aaron Hernandez, represented Aaron Hernandez as forensic counsel on double homicide trial for which he was acquitted. State of New York v. Gilberto Nunez, assisted trial counsel on forensic and scientific issues resulting in a not guilty verdict on a murder charge for Dr. Nunez. State of New York v. Gigi Jordan, as legal forensic consultant to the trial team where she was acquitted by the State of New York of a murder charge but was convicted for the crime of manslaughter in the death of her minor child. State of Florida v. Casey Anthony, represented Casey Anthony on a pro bono basis as the forensic advisor/attorney for the defense from December 2008 until October 2010, resigning only because the State of Florida would not fund costs to out of state pro bono counsel. In re Estate of Madeleine Stockdale, after nearly ten years of litigation including a decision by the NJ Supreme Court, the Superior Court of New Jersey, Chancery Division, Probate Part, in June 2010, granting a seven figure fee award, praised Ms. Kenney Baden and her co-counsel as extremely capable for their persistent, extraordinary efforts and the results which they obtained in a ten year fight on behalf of the Spring Lake First Aid Squad.

Station Ownership and Programming in Radio by Tasneem Chipty, CRA International, June, 2007 I. Introduction Out of concern that common ownership of media may stifle diversity of voices and viewpoints, the Federal Communications Commission (“FCC”) has historically placed limits on the degree of common ownership of local radio stations, as well as on cross-ownership among radio stations, television stations, and newspapers serving the same local area. The 1996 Telecommunications Act loosened local radio station ownership restrictions, to different degrees across markets of different sizes, and it lifted all limits on radio station ownership at the national level. Subsequent FCC rule changes permitted common ownership of television and radio stations in the same market and also permitted a certain degree of cross-ownership between radio stations and newspapers. These changes have resulted in a wave of radio station mergers as well as a number of cross-media acquisitions, shifting control over programming content to fewer hands. For example, the number of radio stations owned or operated by Clear Channel Communications increased from about 196 stations in 1997 to 1,183 stations in 2005; the number of stations owned or operated by CBS (formerly known as Infinity) increased from 160 in 1997 to 178 in 2005; and the number of stations owned or operated by ABC increased from 29 in 1997 to 71 in 2005.

    How to Switch Programs on the XDS Pro Using Serial Commands Every

    How to switch programs on the XDS Pro using Serial Commands Every Program transmitted via the XDS satellite system is associated with a Program ID that identifies the program to the receiver. Individual programs may be selected to the receiver’s output ports by issuing serial ID commands via the M&C (Console) Port on the back of the receiver, thereby changing the program that the receiver is decoding. If a program is selected for decoding using this method that is NOT part of the station’s list of authorized programming, it will NOT be decoded. Only programs authorized for the station that the receiver is assigned to can be decoded. Whenever possible, always use the XDS Port Scheduler as your main method of taking a program to ensure you receive the proper content. You can command the receiver as follows: 1) Start a terminal session (using HyperTerminal or equivalent) by connecting to the receiver’s M&C (Console) Port. The default settings for this Port are 115200, 8, None, 1. 2) Hit Enter. You should see a “Hudson” prompt. 3) Log in by by typing LOGIN(space)TECH(space)(PASSWORD) (Use your Affiliate NMS (myxdsreceiver.westwoodone.com) password OR you can use the receiver’s daily password (Setup > Serial # > PWD). 4) Login confirmation will be displayed (‘You are logged in as TECH’) Once you are logged in, the command to steer a Port on the receiver to a specific program PID is: PORT(space)LIVE,(Port),ID Examples: PORT LIVE,A,99 – This command will set Port A to Program ID 99 (Mark Levin) PORT LIVE,B,1196 – This command will set Port B to Program ID 1196 (CBS Sports - Tiki and Tierney) Please refer to the PID table listed below for the Program ID assignments for each program available on the Westwood One XDS receiver.

    Gregg Potter Emmy-Award winning drummer Gregg Potter is the drummer with the new Buddy Rich Band, a 16- piece big band of Buddy alumni who played with Buddy Rich himself! Gregg fronted The BR Band throughout the Buddy Rich Centennial Celebration Year 2017-2018 World Tour. The tour included a crisscrossing of the United States as well as a barnstorming of Europe. The European stint included a sold out week of shows at the prestigious Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in London, where Buddy recorded several albums and solidified his drumming mastery abroad! Gregg was most recently featured in the August 2018 issue of Drumhead Magazine, the number one drum magazine in circulation. He was also featured in the December 2012 special commemorative Buddy Rich issue of Modern Drummer Magazine and the Drumhead Magazine 2017 legend’s issue. In 2016, Hal Leonard Publishing released a first-ever Buddy Rich Play Along CD/book package featuring Gregg's drumming along with the Buddy Rich Alumni Band. Gregg will front the legendary band in 2019 as they again headline shows around the world. Gregg began his professional career after winning the Slingerland/Louie Bellson National Drum Contest at the legendary Frank’s Drum Shop in Chicago. As a high school student he was presented with the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award along with several other jazz soloist individual awards. While still a teenager, he landed the drumming spot with Radio Hall of Fame icon Steve Dahl. Along with Dahl and his band Teenage Radiation, Gregg scored two hit singles, performed on Dahl’s daily radio show, syndicated national shows, Emmy-Award winning television specials, feature film soundtracks, daily morning television shows and live concert appearances.
