    Sociology Study, May-June 2021, Vol. 11, No. 3, 87-97 doi: 10.17265/2159-5526/2021.03.001 D DAVID PUBLISHING Developing the Commons: Models of Rural Land Trust in China Xuanyi Nie Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Cambridge, USA In recent years, experiments on land trusts (xin tuo) have been made in the rural areas of China. To better understand such practice, this research identifies four case studies based on their operational structures and divides them into government-led models and market-led models. The government-led models include the Yiyang Model in Hunan Province, and the Longgang Model in Hubei Province. The market-led models include the Suzhou Model in Anhui Province, and the Golden Field Series Model in Jiangsu Province. This paper compares their profit-sharing mechanisms with specific attention given to the incentives for the villagers. Findings suggest that the villagers’ profits are limited in both models. The government-led models concern less about profits but more on reusing the desolated agricultural land. The market-led models are profit-driven therefore tend to exclude the villagers from the profit-sharing process. Over the past three decades, the dichotomy between rural and urban in China has been stiffened by the rapidly growing economy. Zhanjiang, 524088, China Abstract Dongting Lake area is one of the primary commodity grain bases in China, while the grain production there is suffering from serious harm of natural disaster such as flood, drought, pests and mouse damage. In general, the historical data recorded of natural disasters in small region are not enough to be used for estimating the probability distribution in risk assessment, because the size of the sample observed is smal1. In this study, the method “Information Diffusion” is used to change limited sample observations into fuzzy sets, and a quantitative analyzing model for natural disasters risk assessment is proposed. Based on the statistical data of grain planting area and hazard area during the period of 1986-2006 in Dongting Lake area, the probability of natural disaster risk of grain production was calculated by using the Information Diffusion Theory in each county. The results showed that the probabilities of natural disaster risk of the area hazard ratio (AHR) of grain production over 10% , 20%, 30%, 40% were between 0.3576̚0.9344, 0.0880̚0.8618, 0.0080̚0.7757, 0̚0.6569 respectively in different county. Meanwhile, the natural disaster risk assessment maps of grain production were obtained based on GIS.

Current studies of heavy metal soil pollution in Hunan province mainly focus on medium and small scales, thus heavy metal pollution is rarely considered at the province scale in Hunan. In order to investigate the heavy metal pollution status in agricultural soils in Hunan province, literature related to heavy metal soil pollution in Hunan province was reviewed and organized from the following databases: Web of Science, China national knowledge infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang Data, and China Science and Technology Journal Database (CQVIP). The literature data for the contents of Pb (122 soil sampling sites), Zn (103 sites), Cu (102 sites), Cd (105 sites), As (100 sites), Hg (85 sites), Cr (95 sites), and Ni (62 sites) in Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 3.0 Unported Licence. agricultural soils were obtained at the province scale. The spatial auto-correlation method was applied to reveal the spatial distribution of heavy metal accumulation. The average contents of the 8 heavy metals in agricultural soils of Hunan were all significantly (P < 0.05) higher than their background values and they were not distributed evenly across the Hunan province; the content of each heavy metal in eastern Hunan (including the cities of Yueyang, Changsha, Zhuzhou, and Chenzhou) was higher than that of other regions.
