Opening Statements Canadian Minister of National Defence and Member of Parliament for Vancouver South . Minister Sajjan has made serving others a cornerstone of his life. He has served as a former detective with the Vancouver Police Department, a former Lieutenant Colonel with the British Columbia Regiment, and a long-time advocate for youth education and mentorship programs. For 11 years, Minister Sajjan was a member of the Vancouver Police Department, based primarily in South Vancouver. He completed his career as a detective with the gang crime unit. As a member of the British Columbia Regiment (Duke of Connaught’s Own), he participated in four operational deployments—one to Bosnia and three to Afghanistan. Website

Ryan Chan - Chinese Canadian National Council for Social Justice

Event Emcee CCNC-SJ was formed in 2019, as a revival of the original Chinese Canadian National Council, formed after the W5 episode in 1979 – “Campus Giveaway.” That racist TV show falsely depicted Chinese Canadian students in our universities as foreigners. This led to nation-wide protests that resulted in an apology from CTV and the formation of CCNC, marking the beginning of four decades of fighting for equality and human rights. Ryan Chan is a social advocate who has a legal background from the University of Toronto.He is committed to effecting social change and also serves on the board of directors at the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (Ontario) and acts as a consultant for the World Wildlife Fund-Canada.
