FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 10, 2014 2014 Haskins Award recipient Patrick Rodgers to compete in The Greenbrier Classic White Sulphur Springs, WV – June 10, 2014: Officials of The Greenbrier Classic announced today that Patrick Rodgers – winner of the 2014 Haskins Award, college golf’s most coveted honor – has accepted an exemption to compete in The Greenbrier Classic, June 30 to July 6. Rodgers was a three-time PING First-Team All-America selection at Stanford. The junior from Avon, Indiana won 11 individual championships in his collegiate career, equaling a school record held by 1996 Haskins recipient Tiger Woods. In addition to the Haskins Award, Rodgers’s distinguished career at Stanford includes a list of further honors, including Pac-12 Player of the Year, the Ben Hogan Award, and the Jack Nicklaus Award as the National Player of the Year. Presented by Stifel and sponsored by Golfweek and The Greenbrier Classic, the Haskins Award is governed by the Fred Haskins Commission, a 501c(3) organization based in Columbus, Ga. It is named for a resident pro at the Country Club of Columbus who long ago learned to play the game at Hoylake, the site of the 2014 British Open. Since 1970 the award has gone to that year’s most outstanding male golfer as voted upon by players, coaches and members of the golf media. The Haskins Award will be presented to Rodgers at The Greenbrier during a special reception held during The Greenbrier Classic on July 1. “We deeply cherish our relationship with the Fred Haskins Commission,” said Jim Justice, owner of The Greenbrier. “I’m looking forward to watching Patrick compete against some of the best players in the world on the Old White TPC Course at the end of the month.” To stay connected with The Greenbrier Classic on social media, follow on Twitter at @GBRClassic (#GreenbrierClassic) and like on Facebook at www.facebook.com/thegreenbrierclassic .
