8/26/2016 German milk technician crowned Mr Gay World 2015 Gay Star News German milk technician crowned Mr Gay World 2015 Gay Star News 'I would like to lead the world to a point where it is not essential to even have a coming out,' says the 21 yearold winner 3 May 2015 Twentyoneyearold Mr Gay Germany Klaus Burkart has beaten 20 other men to take home the Mr Gay World title. The 1.83m tall milk technician from Wangen im AllgÃ¤u was presented with the Mr Gay World sash and trophy by 2014 winner Stuart Hatton in Cape Town, South Africa on Saturday night. Burkart says in his official profile on the Mr Gay World website he would like to be a ‘role model for young gay [men] all over the world and help them with their coming out and also change young people’s opinion of homosexuality.’ ‘I would like to lead the world to a point where it is not essential to even have a coming out.’ He added that he is planning a campaign to visit schools and talk about how to avoid bullying and gay bashing. In April, Mr Gay World India Thahir Mohammed Sayyed withdrew from the competition and went into hiding after his family received threats. A heartfelt shout-out and thank you goes to all the human rights defenders around the world for the time and energy they commit to ad- vancing the cause of equality for persons with diverse sexual orienta- tions, gender identities and gender expressions, and sex characteristics everywhere. Our deepest thanks to those who, despite the unforeseen eco- nomic hardship bestowed upon everyone by the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, have committed to financially make our work pos- sible in 2020. We also thank one significant anonymous donor and many other companies and individuals who have made donations. Despite a growing body of international research into volunteer motivation and the beneficial application of such knowledge in volunteer management strategies, a dearth of literature exists on the motives of volunteers within LGBT rights-based organisations. This study uses data from qualitative interviews with 6 formal volunteers from Namibian LGBT rights-based organisations to explore volunteer motivations. A thematic analysis of the research findings reveal the complex motivations underlying volunteering in these organisations. Volunteer motivations in Namibian LGBT rights-based organisations included: (a) addressing and promoting humanitarian concerns; (b) improved social interaction, integration and support; (c) self-regulatory opportunities for personal enhancement; (d) developing career prospects; and (e) responding to past homophobic incidents.
