Hyundai to become official sponsor of figure skater & national sports hero until 2010 Hyundai seeks to nurture nation’s athletes, promote winter sports

SEOUL, Korea, Dec. 15, 2008 ­ , one of the world’s biggest sponsors of football, announced that it will officially sponsor Yuna Kim, a two­time Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final winner and national sports hero in Korea, to nurture the country’s winter sports and boost brand awareness.

Hyundai Motor announced today at a press conference that the automaker will sponsor Kim for two years, until December 2010. The press conference today was attended by Kim, 18, Hyundai Motor’s Vice Chairman James Choi and about 100 media members, at Hyundai’s headquarters in .

“Hyundai is proud and delighted to sponsor Yuna, who is giving Korean people great joy and hope,” said Mr. Choi. “We know she has worked hard to be where she is and we wish her all the best in next year’s competitions.”

Kim is scheduled to participate in the,and thein the coming year. Hyundai decided to sponsor her to help the skater perform her best at these world competitions. The sponsoring of Kim, whose rise to one of the world’s leading figure skaters in a country where winter sports is severely underdeveloped, fits with the image of Hyundai, which has also risen rapidly in global rankings for safety and quality to become a world­class automaker.

“I always envied foreign skaters around my age who received many corporate sponsors,” said Kim. “I’m very proud to receive this sponsorship from Hyundai Motor and promise to work very hard to become the world’s best figure skater and to be known worldwide, like Hyundai.”

Hyundai Motor will participate in Kim’s competitions as a sponsor and also organize cheering squads and events. The company also provided one of its new rear­wheel drive luxury sedan, Genesis, for her convenience during the Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final held between Dec. 11­14 in City, northwest of Seoul. Kim achieved second place in the event, raising ’s status once more in the world of figure skating.
