The Inside Edge Page 3 Ice Etiquette & Safety - Be Aware, Be Safe, Be Nice! Safety is most important when skating and as our club grows, more skaters of all levels will be using the ice for practice. Some things to remember when taking to the ice Courtesy - Respect the rights of other skaters and BE AWARE of who is around you. If you are surrounded by skaters with significantly higher or lower skills, be ESPECIALLY careful. Be on P.O B OX 138 the look out for potential collisions! TORRENSVILLE PLAZA POST SHOP, TORRENSVILLE, SA 5031 “On Program” and “In Lesson” Skaters have Priority - The skater who is “On Program” (who’s music is playing and wearing the ORANGE belt) has the right of way at ALL times. All email enquiries should be sent to pected to give these skaters room to skate safely. [email protected] Lutz Corners - Because of the nature of the , it is most commonly performed in the ‘Lutz Corners’ (10:00 and 4:00). Avoid extended practice activities in these corners and be aware of skaters performing these jumps when you are in these areas. The approach to a Lutz is long and Club Website blind and the jumping skater is unlikely to see you. silverblades.org.au Dangerous Singles Moves - Camel Spins and Back spirals expose the skate blades to other skaters and once you have started the element, it will be hard for you to see those around you. Be aware of your expected space before you start the element and abort if the area becomes unsafe. Watch out For Pairs Skaters - Two skaters moving together take up more room and cant react as quickly as a single skater. If they are doing lifts, be aware that once a lift is started, the skaters ARE committed to their ‘path’, and moving into that path can be dangerous for both you and them. Don’t Stand Around - Standing together for a chat presents an additional hazard for skaters to avoid and parents DO NOT like to see their children chatting while we sit cold in the stands!
