Word­processing Exercise

In Part One of this exercise you will:

• Open a new document • Insert text • Format text • Save the document • Change the line spacing • Use the cut and paste functions • Insert bullets and numbers • Insert a header and footer • Insert a clipart image • Use the tab key • Perform a word count • Use the spell checking facility • Print preview the document

In Part Two of this exercise you will:

• Work with page margins • Insert footnotes • Insert a table • Sort a table • Format a table • Apply a style of text • Insert a table of contents • Use the find and replace functions

Fatboy Slim

Early Years

Although born in , Norman grew up in Redhill and later studied at Poly, where he graduated with a BA in English, Politics and Sociology. It was in Brighton, where Norman started his music career as a DJ. is the project of Quentin “Norman” Cook.

Rise to Fame

While he was a DJ in Brighton, Norman got a phone call from an old school mate, inviting him to play in a band called . The Housemartins biggest hit was “” which reached the British number one slot in 1986. The band split the following year.

Different Projects

After the split, Norman formed and had a British number one hit with “” in 1989. Soon afterwards Norman was forced to take a break after getting divorced and falling victim of a nervous breakdown. Two years later, Beats International was disbanded in favour of a new group called Freakpower.

After touring with Freakpower for a year, Norman became a partner in and adopted the pseudonym Fatboy Slim. According to Norman, the name originates from a Louisiana blues singer in the 1940s.

Continuing Success

Fatboy Slim soon attracted much attention in Europe and the US with his blend of house, acid, hip­hop, electro and techno music. Hits included of “”, “”, and his own tunes such as “The Rockafellar Skank” and “Right Here, Right Now”.

During two rollercoaster years, Norman found himself jetting off to DJ gigs and award ceremonies and in the midst of all of this he fell in love and married Zoe Ball. Today, the couple has a young son called Woody Fred and Fatboy Slim continues to take the world by storm!

Part One

1. Open a new document in MS Word. 2. Type in the following text in a Times New Roman font, size 12. 3. Ensure that the title, ‘Fatboy Slim’ adheres to the following:

Format: Bold Alignment: Centre Font Size: 14

4. Illustrate all of the song titles in a bold and italic format. 5. Save the document as Exercise1.doc to your own space on the local machine. 6. Select all of the text and change it from single line spacing to double line spacing. 7. In the first paragraph, cut the sentence ‘Fatboy Slim is the project of Quentin “Norman” Cook’ and paste it at the start of the first paragraph. The paragraph should now read:

‘Fatboy Slim is the project of Quentin “Norman” Cook. Although born in Bromley, Norman grew up in Redhill and later studied at Brighton Poly, where he graduated with a BA in English, Politics and Sociology. It was in Brighton, where Norman started his music career as a DJ’.

8. Change the fifth paragraph as follows using bullets and numbering:

Fatboy Slim soon attracted so much attention in Europe and the US with his blend of house, acid, hip­hop, electro and techno music. Hits included remixes of: • “Brimful of Asha” • “Rengade Master”

and his own tunes such as:

9. Save the document and insert a Header that contains your name on the left and the today’s date on the right. Display the Header in a size 10 font.

10. Insert a Footer in a size 10 font that consists of the page number in the centre of the page. 11. Insert a page break before the headings ‘Early Years’, ‘Rise to Fame’, ‘Different Projects’, ‘Continuing Success’ and ‘Bibliography’. 12. Click below the text on page 3 of the document. Insert a clipart image of your own choice. Resize the image appropriately and place it in the centre of the page. 13. Using the key on the keyboard, insert the following below the text on page 4 of the document: send 1`23 a deck 32434 Album Name Label Release Date

14. Perform a word count on the document and type the result at the end of the Bibliography. 15. Spell check and print preview the document. 16. Save the document and the word processing package.

Part Two

17. Reopen Exercise1.doc. 18. Ensure that the margins of the document adhere to the following:

Top: 0.8 inches (2cm) Bottom: 0.8 inches (2cm) Left: 1.2 inches (3cm) Right: 1.2 inches (3cm) Header: 0.39 inches (1cm) Footer: 0.39 inches (1cm)

19. Insert the following footnotes into the document:

20. Insert the following table under the heading ‘Bibliography’, using a Times New Roman, size 12 font and double line spacing:

21. Sort the author’s names in the table in alphabetical order. 22. Remove the line border from the table. 23. On page 1 of the document, click below the title ‘Fatboy Slim’ and type ‘Table of Contents’ using the following:

Format: Underline Alignment: Left Font Size: 14

24. Ensure the headings ‘Early Years’, ‘Rise to Fame’, ‘Different Projects’, ‘Continuing Success’ and ‘Bibliography’ adhere to the following Heading 1 style:

Font: Times New Roman Format: Bold Alignment: Left Font Size: 12

25. Insert a page break before the heading ‘Table of Contents’. 26. Click below the ‘Table of Contents’ heading on the second page. From the Insert menu, choose Index and Tables. Select Table of Contents and choose a Distinctive format. Click OK. 27. Use the find and replace functions to change the words ‘Norman’ to ‘Norm’. 28. Spell check and print preview the document. 29. Save the document as Exercie2.doc and exit the word processing package.
