His parish is Chilvers Coton, residence Griff. The records state that he has seven children, five of whom are working – two at the mill, two as colliers (Edward and William in 1851 census are colliers) and one as a weaver (Joseph in 1851). One daughter who is missing here is Sarah, born about 1827, whose existence is known from the 1881 census. Sarah White married William Hill 4 Sept 1854 in St. John, Coventry. In the 1851 census there is a granddaughter, Leah, living with them. The IGI gives the mother of Leah as Leah White, but no birth of the mother, Leah. The report says that his wife was ill and that there were three in the family. Three of the children must have been staying somewhere else, or the ‘three’ refers to the number of children and only one was staying somewhere else. This is the same George who later became a scripture reader at Chilvers Coton church. It also mentions that ‘she keeps a little school’. Since she was poor and infirm this perhaps means that she did the cleaning in a small school (‘keep’ as in ‘housekeeper’). At Christmas 1841 she was described as infirm and was given free soup once a week from December 26th till February 23rd 1842.
