Inniskeen Village Public Realm Spatial Plan (DRAFT) 12th Fenruary 2021 Contents 1. Introduction 2. Analysis 3. Concept 4. Key Spaces 5. Spatial Plan 6. Costs & Phasing Introduction Inniskeen Public Realm Spatial Plan has been prepared to inform the future development of public realm in and around Inniskeen for both locals and visitors alike. Spatial Plan Context Inniskeen is a small village located in Co.Monaghan, it is a historic settlement rich in archaeology, landscape features and architectural character, which inspired much of Patrick Kavanagh’s early work as a writer. There are two areas of commercial activity, at the road junction at McNello’s Pub which includes a public house, a petrol station, shop, and credit union. The second commercial centre is at the former railway station cluster including Magee’s public house and shop. Community uses dominate the centre of the village including the river walk, pitch and putt course, Community Centre, National School, Church of Ireland, Round Tower, Graveyard, and the Patrick Kavanagh Centre. Residential development occurs within the village centre to the north west and principally to the west of the village. Brief The Project Brief was to deliver a design which enhances the architectural quality of the sensitive streetscape, provides a high-quality concept and incorporates the following principles: • Reinvent the village as a place for people. • Development of pedestrian linkages between the Village, Kavanagh Centre and the Monaghan Way/ Railway Station. • Designation of key urban spaces for enhancement and specifi c urban design proposals. • Realisation of the potential of heritage and cultural assets for both locals and visitors.

  • Roodstown Castle Video Script
Roodstown Castle Adèle Commins and Daithí Kearney Roodstown Castle is a prominent feature of the built heritage of Co. Louth. Its excellent state of preservation gives it added stature and it provides an excellent example of a tower house in Ireland. National records provide an interesting account of the change of name of the townland of Roodstown since 1301. Over the years the following variants of the name existed: Rotheston (1301), Routheston (1305), Rotheston (1582), Roothstowne (1635), Roothtowne (1655), Roothestowne (1658), Roods towne (1659), Rootstowne (1664), Roodestowne (1666), Roodstowne (1667), Roothstowne (1670), Roothtown (1685), Rootstown (1777), Roodstown (1836). At this time it was noted that Rooth was a family name.1 The 1837 Topographical Dictionary of Ireland noted that the townland contained 25 houses at the time with 148 inhabitants and described it as a village.2 This dictionary also suggested that the townland was called Rootstown or Ruthstown. In the Barony of Ardee and Civil Parish of Stabannan, the townland of Roodstown is surrounded by a number of other townlands including Gudderstown, Rock, Broadlough, Drumcashel, Philibenstown and Irishtown. Roodstown Castle is the most prominent structure today in the townland. The castle overlooks the N33 and the River Dee and is an imposing feature in the landscape visible today from a number of surrounding roads including the N52 and N33. Roodstown Castle is positioned on the roadside at a junction. To the right of the castle is Ardee and to the left of the castle is Stabannan. In days gone by this was the main road from Ardee to Castlebellingham.

  • Types of Higher Education Institutions
Published on Eurydice (https://eacea.ec.europa.eu/national-policies/eurydice) Types of Higher Education Institutions Ireland’s higher education system is principally a binary system with universities and institutes of technology. In 1997, the Universities Act was passed, the most significant piece of university legislation since the State was founded. For all seven universities in the State, the Act set out the objects and functions of a university, the structure and role of governing bodies, staffing arrangements, composition and role of academic councils and sections relating to property, finance and reporting. The governing authorities are required to see that strategic development plans are in place, and that procedures for evaluating teaching and research are in place. The HEA has an overseeing role on such plans and quality assurance procedures. The legislative framework preserves the academic freedom of the universities and respects the diverse traditions and institutional autonomy of each university. The Institutes of Technology Act, 2006, creates a similar relationship between the Institutes and the HEA as that between the HEA and the universities. It provides for greater institutional autonomy, improved governance and a statutory guarantee of academic freedom for the IoTs. University Tertiary Education There are seven State-supported universities in Ireland. The National University of Ireland has four constituent universities at Dublin, Cork, Galway and Maynooth which are largely independent under the Universities Act of 1997. The University of Dublin with its single college, Trinity College, is the oldest established university (1592). The other two established universities are the University of Limerick and Dublin City University. St.

She works with a variety of different clays from terracotta through to white stoneware and porcelain. Frances usually leaves her work unglazed except for the occasional application of oxides. A hallmark of her work is the delicate finish, she pays particular attention to ensure that surface texture unites with form. Her source of inspiration is the natural world, in particular the sea. Her ceramic forms describe an underwater world, the sphere, the oval and undulating forms are recurring themes. Their purity of form recalls stones that have been polished by the movement of water and sand. Frances’ work is in public and private collections including the National Museum of Ireland, the Department of Foreign Affairs of Ireland, the Office of Public Works, and the National Museum of Northern Ireland. • Enforcement Decision Series (No
ENFORCEMENT DECISION SERIES (NO. E/05/001) Competition Act 2002 Decision of The Competition Authority (Case COM/05/03) The alleged predation by the Drogheda Independent Company Limited in the market for advertising in local newspapers in the greater Drogheda area Date of Decision: 7th December 2004 EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The Competition Authority (“the Authority”) has taken the view that alleged predatory conduct by the Drogheda Independent Company Limited (“the DIC”) does not breach the Competition Act 2002. This view is taken on the basis that the DIC is not dominant nor could its alleged conduct constitute an abuse. The alleged conduct is arguably pro-consumer and more indicative of intense competition in the market than predatory conduct by a dominant undertaking. The Authority’s investigation was prompted by complaints from the publisher of the Drogheda Leader (“the Leader”) alleging that the DIC was abusing a dominant position by: launching the Drogheda Independent Weekend Extra (“the Extra”) in 1997, selling advertising below cost since 1997, and selectively discounting the price of advertising in the Extra during January and February 2003. The Authority rejected the first two of these allegations on the basis that the DIC’s actions could not plausibly be considered as predation and the theory of predation was inconsistent with market facts. The Authority therefore only outlines in detail its analysis of the allegation of below cost selling of advertising space in the Extra during early 2003 in this decision note. The Authority considers that the relevant market in which the DIC competes is the market for advertising in local newspapers in the greater Drogheda area.
