The publisher Hal Leonard has to purchase the rights to all of the songs in order to publish them in their book. All in all, great book, good arrangements, and a great collections of songs that represent all eras of rock. When I bought this book I was sold on the songs, but when I recieved it and began looking through it I found only 90 songs. Because guitar solos are just melody, which is most effectively expressed in a simple and understandable way. Even the fastest guitar players of our day are incredibly gifted in the art of melodic construction. Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Eric Johnson just to name a few are known not only for their speed, but for creating music that is melodically intriguing. Again, this is great news for guitar players who don't consider themselves "speedsters" or even lead players. After a couple decades of the guitar pendulum swinging back to the middle, away from the speedsters of the '80s, we've got a ton of songs with easy guitar solos that rhythm and non- speed players can learn without having to spend hours struggling with complex soloing patterns. It can also be helpful to supplement lists like this with formal instruction. We've also got a broad list of how-to guitar topics covered for those that want to do a little more digging. While there isn't really a proper definition for what is too fast, we've found that such guitar solos are self-evident and easy to post. As mentioned in the opening paragraph, guitar solos in their most basic form are expressions of melody. Easy guitar solos should have simple, identifiable melody lines that are easy to retain. Remember how easy it is to get "jingles" stuck in your head, or annoying songs that you end up humming to yourself all day? An easy guitar solo should be sort of like that. It should be like listening to the Andy Griffith God rest his soul whistling intro. And while it's probably not what we want to play on guitar, it's a good example of what kind of melody is easy to recall. What's up? There's a lot of lead guitar happening in this song, but none of it is fast or complicated. Once you get a feel for the melody, the solo isn't going to give you trouble. Highway to Hell. Ok - so maybe it's not "easy" in the strictest sense of the word, but it's certainly not fast. Anyone with a good tab sheet and some patience has a fair chance. Fluorescent Adolescent. This solo is clean, slow and completely attainable, even for the more untried beginners among us. Tom Morello must have exhausted his Vh1s 100 Greatest Songs of Rock & Roll: Easy Guitar with Notes & Tab Edition with this song on the verse riff which is awesomebecause the chorus riff and solo are pretty "run of the mill. The solo is more of a break after the first chorus. It's one bended note on repeat without much else. Avenged Sevenfold. Danger Line. This is one of the few manageable solos from Avenged Sevenfold, and it's certainly not the easiest on this list. However, it's not at all Vh1s 100 Greatest Songs of Rock & Roll: Easy Guitar with Notes & Tab Edition, with only a few runs that break from the melody in favor of a little added speed. Warmness on the Soul. We get one more from Avenged Sevenfold that's highly melodic and ballad-esque. This one might be even easier than "Danger Line," though both are similar in speed and construction. Fight for Your Right to Party. This one is just a few measures long and can be easily handled, provided you know how to bend a few notes. Can't Buy Me Love. George Harrison's bluesy solo on "Can't Buy Me Love" is short, moderately fast and not at all complex. It's fun to play and can probably be conquered in one sitting. Let It Be.

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE APRIL 10, 2012 RIVER ROCK CASINO RESORT & 96.9 JACK FM PRESENT COLLECTIVE SOUL SATURDAY, JULY 28 Richmond, BC – Collective Soul, taken from a line in Ayn Rand's book, The Fountainhead, was formed in the small town of Stockbridge, Georgia in the early '90s by songwriter Ed Roland (lead vocals/keyboards/guitars), guitarists Dean Roland and Ross Childress and rhythm section Will Turpin (bass/percussion) and Shane Evans (drums/percussion). Released in 1993 on the Atlanta indie label Rising Storm, Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid featured the #1 hit single, “Shine”. The album proved popular enough on the local level that it was picked up the following year by Atlantic Records and went on to achieve Double Platinum status. They then released their second album, Collective Soul in 1995 which featured the #1 hits, “December", “Where The River Flows” and “The World I Know” along with “Gel” and “Smashing Young Man”. The album went Triple Platinum and spent 76 weeks on the Billboard Top 200 charts. Their 1997 album, Disciplined Breakdown produced two more #1 hits, “Precious Declaration” and “Listen” followed two years later with Dosage which featured the #1 hit single, “Heavy” along with “Run”, “Needs” and “Tremble For My Beloved”. In 2000, the band released Blender which featured the hit singles, “Why, Pt. 2”, “Vent” and “Perfect Day” … a duet with Roland and Elton John. They then returned to their roots in 2004 welcoming new guitarist Joel Kosche as Ross’ replacement and releasing the stripped-down and dynamic Youth on its own El Music Group imprint.
