FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE APRIL 10, 2012 RIVER ROCK CASINO RESORT & 96.9 JACK FM PRESENT COLLECTIVE SOUL SATURDAY, JULY 28 Richmond, BC – Collective Soul, taken from a line in Ayn Rand's book, The Fountainhead, was formed in the small town of Stockbridge, Georgia in the early '90s by songwriter Ed Roland (lead vocals/keyboards/guitars), guitarists Dean Roland and Ross Childress and rhythm section Will Turpin (bass/percussion) and Shane Evans (drums/percussion). Released in 1993 on the Atlanta indie label Rising Storm, Hints Allegations and Things Left Unsaid featured the #1 hit single, “Shine”. The album proved popular enough on the local level that it was picked up the following year by Atlantic Records and went on to achieve Double Platinum status. They then released their second album, Collective Soul in 1995 which featured the #1 hits, “December", “Where The River Flows” and “The World I Know” along with “Gel” and “Smashing Young Man”. The album went Triple Platinum and spent 76 weeks on the Billboard Top 200 charts. Their 1997 album, Disciplined Breakdown produced two more #1 hits, “Precious Declaration” and “Listen” followed two years later with Dosage which featured the #1 hit single, “Heavy” along with “Run”, “Needs” and “Tremble For My Beloved”. In 2000, the band released Blender which featured the hit singles, “Why, Pt. 2”, “Vent” and “Perfect Day” … a duet with Roland and Elton John. They then returned to their roots in 2004 welcoming new guitarist Joel Kosche as Ross’ replacement and releasing the stripped-down and dynamic Youth on its own El Music Group imprint. The album featured the hit singles, “Counting the Days”, “Better Now” and “How Do You Love”. Their 2007 album, Afterwords opened at #25 on the Billboard Comprehensive Albums Chart and #5 on the Billboard Top Internet Albums Chart and featured the singles, “Hollywood” and “All That I Know”. The following year, “Tremble For My Beloved” was featured in the 2008 blockbuster film, Twilight as well as on the film’s chart topping soundtrack. That same year they released their eighth studio album … another self-titled but designated by the band as Rabbit. The album featured the singles, “Staring Down”, “Welcome All Again” and “You”. In 2009, they were inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame. Collective Soul will be performing for one night only at the River Rock Casino Resort on July 28, 2012. Kritiker bewerten seine Musik auf sehr unterschiedliche Art und Weise. Einige halten seine Musik für zu altmodisch und zu sehr den Traditionen der Tonalität verbunden, andere bewerten sie als zu modern und schwer zugänglich, an Atonalität grenzend. Aber wie soll man Brittens Musik betrachten? Setzt sie die Traditionen der romantischen Komponisten des 19. Jahrhunderts fort? Ja, dies ist der Fall, jedoch bringt Britten diese Konventionen an ihre Grenzen. Ist Brittens Musik atonal? Obwohl manche Kritiker der Ansicht sind, dass seine Kompositionen abstrakt sind, bleibt er den etablierten Konventionen der Musik doch treu. Nicht zu bestreiten ist, dass Brittens gesangliche Kompositionen in ihrer Poesie nur schwer zu übertreffen sind. Er vertonte Gedichte von bedeutenden Dichtern wie Arthur Rimbaud, Victor Hugo, Paul Verlaine, Henry Longfellow, William Shakespare, Edith Sitwell, Emily Brontë und William Blake.
