Tuesday, September 20 –Flyers 4, 0 at Air : Four different players scored and Sergei Bobrovsky recorded a 27-save shutout as the Flyers beat Toronto in the preseason opener. Zac Rinaldo, Wayne Simmonds and Mike Testwuide all contributed to a three-goal second period, while Sean Couturier picked up the second goal of his camp after also scoring in Thursday’s Rookie Game scrimmage against Washington. The shutout was the first for the Flyers in 108 total games spanning the preseason, regular season and playoffs, going back to the 2010 Eastern Conference Finals vs. Montreal.

Wednesday, September 21 –Toronto Maple Leafs 4, Flyers 2 at Wells Fargo Center: Toronto returned serve from the night before with a 4-2 win in the home exhibition opener for the Flyers. The Leafs jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals by Juraj Mikus and Matt Frattin before Tomas Hyka scored on a breakaway out of the penalty box to make it 2-1 at the end of the second period. scored for the Leafs about five minutes into the third period to make it a 3-1 lead. The Flyers answered one of the goals with just over two minutes to play when Eric Gustafsson put a loose puck home to make it 3-2. But Frattin scored an empty netter to spell the end for the Flyers.

Thursday, September 22: 4, Flyers 3 (SO) at John Labatt Centre, London, –Wayne Simmonds scored with 53 seconds left and the goaltender pulled to force overtime, but the Red Wings prevailed in an eight-round shootout. The Flyers were down 3-1 with 2:45 remaining when James van Riemsdyk scored his second goal of the game, this one on the power play, to make it 3-2. van Riemsdyk had previously scored in the second period. The shootout saw only one player per team score in the first seven rounds before Ian White beat in round eight to end it. Leighton made 38 saves on 41 shots before stopping six of eight in the shootout.

Friday, September 23: Flyers 3, Detroit Red Wings 1 at Joe Louis Arena –Jaromir Jagr had a goal and an assist in his Flyers debut as the Flyers beat the Red Wings. Matt Read also posted a goal and assist for the Flyers, while James van Riemsdyk provided the club’s other goal. The Flyers were trailing 1-0 late in the first period when Jagr set up van Riemsdyk for one goal and then scored his own in a 52-second span. Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 22 of 23 shots to pick up his second win of the preseason.

Monday, September 26: Flyers 5, 3 at Wells Fargo Center –Jaromir Jagr scored twice and Braydon Coburn put home the game-winner in the third period as the Flyers topped the Rangers to close out the day that saw the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic officially announced at Citizen’s Bank Park. The teams combined for a total of five power play goals, as both of Jagr’s came on the man-advantage. Matt Read had another multi-point game with a goal and an assist, while Danny Briere and Claude Giroux each had three assists.

Thursday, September 29: Flyers 2, 1 at Wells Fargo Center –Jaromir Jagr scored on the power play with 8:12 remaining in the third period to lift the Flyers over the Devils in the home preseason finale. Jagr’s goal was his third PPG of the preseason and fourth overall, and came on the tap-in of a spectacular setup by Claude Giroux, who earned the game’s first star for his efforts. Wayne Simmonds scored the other goal for the Flyers, while Ilya Bryzgalov and Sergei Bobrovsky split the game in half –Bryzgalov stopped 17 of 18 in the first 29:30, after which Bobrovsky stopped all 13 shots he faced.

Saturday, October 1: New Jersey Devils 2, Flyers 1 at Prudential Center –David Clarkson scored on the power play with 4:21 to play, snapping a 1-1 tie and lifting the Devils to the win in the preseason finale for both clubs. Scott Hartnell gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead with a power play goal at 16:29 of the first period, but Petr Sykora tied it 4:12 into the second period to set the stage for Clarkson’s game-winner. Ilya Bryzgalov made 18 saves in the loss.

PRESEASON HIGHLIGHTS

The Flyers went 9-for-31 on the power play in the preseason (29.03 percent). Jaromir Jagr scored three power play goals, which tied for the league lead with two other players.

Sergei Bobrovsky appeared in three games, playing all of two games and half of a third for a total of 151 minutes. He was 3-0 with a 0.40 GAA and a .984 save percentage. As a team, the Flyers had a 1.98 GAA and a .925 save percentage in the preseason.

Matt Read and Claude Giroux tied for the team lead in scoring. Read posted two goals and five assists for seven points in six games, while Giroux posted seven assists in four games.
