PRESIDENTE: Muy buenas tardes, el Senado de Puerto Rico inicia sus trabajos en el día de hoy martes, 28 de agosto, a las doce y cuarenta y cinco de la tarde (12:45 p.m.). En primer lugar, nos excusamos con los compañeros de la Delegación de Minoría, íbamos a comenzar a las once de la mañana (11:00 a.m.), pero teníamos un compromiso la Delegación de la Mayoría, que se extendió un poco más de lo que estimamos. Así que nuestras excusas a los compañeros porque sabemos que estuvieron aquí desde temprano, así que nuestras excusas. Señor Portavoz. SR. Señor, bueno, te damos gracias por esta oportunidad de que se pueda abrir esta sesión para atender los asuntos relevantes del país y que tú le des el entendimiento y la sabiduría que todos los aquí representados necesitan para llevar a cabo el trabajo. También, oramos por los bomberos de Puerto 8020 Martes, 28 de agosto de 2018 Núm. 4 Rico, que han estado aquí hoy haciendo un reclamo. Súpleles para que ellos también puedan bendecir a sus familias. PRESIDENTE: Adelante. PETICIONES DE TURNOS INICIALES AL PRESIDENTE (Los señores Bhatia Gautier, Vargas Vidot; y la señora López León solicitan Turnos Iniciales al Presidente). SR. PRESIDENTE: El compañero Bhatia Gautier; el compañero Vargas Vidot; y la compañera Rossana López. Bueno, ¿comenzamos con las damas? Senadora Rossana López, usted primero. SRA. LÓPEZ LEÓN: Muchas gracias, señor Presidente. En la mañana de hoy nos hemos levantado con la noticia con respecto a la justicia para los pensionados de nuestro país. Creo que siendo de la misma forma, con la misma consistencia que en innumerables ocasiones he reiterado, principalmente el impacto que esto puede tener en muchos jubilados de nuestro país. Más de 120 mil jubilados de nuestro Gobierno que dieron la batalla que hicieron el Puerto Rico que tenemos hoy y que la mayoría de ellos se encuentran bajo los índices de pobreza, una vez uno evalúa el impacto económico con respecto al costo de vida de nuestro país, y cada uno de los renglones de costos que ha generado incluso la crisis económica en nuestro país. Y no siendo importante que una gran cantidad de seres humanos, hombres y mujeres, le podamos poner en riesgo no solamente su ingreso económico, sino la vida y la calidad de vida que estos merecen tener. Y con la intención de que sepamos cuál es la realidad, qué alternativa podemos buscar. Y sabiendo que anteriormente rechacé medidas que fueron para mí no las alternativas correctas con respecto a la situación de los pensionados de nuestro país, apunto en esta tarde a que hagamos un trabajo genuino de cada uno de nosotros con respecto a buscar alternativas que garanticen el pago de las pensiones de cada uno de estos seres humanos que en cierta manera una vez el Gobierno 8021 Martes, 28 de agosto de 2018 Núm. 4 no pueda proveerles las pensiones necesarias, irán a buscar servicios en el mismo Gobierno de Puerto Rico, lo que generará aún más otras situaciones. Que lamentará también la situación económica que tiene nuestro país, y más aún la situación de la calidad de vida de seres humanos. Así que he remitido ante la consideración de este Alto Cuerpo la Resolución del Senado 847, “Para ordenar a las Comisiones de Gobierno; y de Hacienda del Senado de Puerto Rico, a realizar una investigación exhaustiva en torno a la implementación y cumplimiento de la Ley 106-2017, mejor conocida como la “Ley para Garantizar el Pago de Nuestros Pensionados y Establecer un Nuevo Plan de Aportaciones Definidas para los Servidores Públicos” y el impacto de esta política pública sobre los municipios…”, ya que hemos visto la situación que aqueja a cada uno de los municipios que ha ido en detrimento la situación económica, que han tenido la situación de que las facturas enviadas por el Sistema de Retiro incluyen personas que están muertas o facturas que no concuerdan con los empleados que muy bien tienen cada uno de esos municipios, y encima de eso tener menos de 350 millones que se le ha quitado a cada uno de esos gobierno en total, que se ha quitado a los gobiernos municipales. Así que yo creo que es importantísimo buscar alternativas de inmediato, no esperar a situaciones que ya tengamos en las manos donde veamos que más de 126 mil personas que hoy reciben entre 600 y 700 dólares mensuales, que son la mitad casi de nuestros pensionados que viven en el nivel de pobreza, tengamos entonces que verlo demandando servicios al gobierno porque su calidad de vida y su salud va en detrimento, y eso nos toca a todos bajo la responsabilidad que tenemos como puertorriqueñas y puertorriqueños. Así que, señor Presidente, creo que es importantísimo que tanto las corporaciones y como el impacto que puede tener esto en los municipios veamos en qué se está utilizando este dinero y que no haya sido utilizado para otros fines, conforme a la situación económica que viven los jubilados y las jubiladas de nuestro país. Muchas gracias, señor Presidente. SR. PRESIDENTE: Muchísimas gracias a la compañera. Corresponde el turno al senador Vargas Vidot. Adelante, compañero. SR. VARGAS VIDOT: Muchas gracias, señor Presidente. Voy a dedicar, hay dos temas que me interesa presentar. En esta semana recibí en mi oficina a una dama de unos cuarenta y pico de años, esta persona venía en búsqueda de poder terminar la casita en el área de Bayamón, me referí a ella en otros momentos, pero una enfermedad que parece ser minar su salud fuertemente la pone a ella contra la pared pensando qué va a ser de sus hijas y piensa que terminar la casa va a ser la forma de dejar un legado. Es decir, esta persona no vino a pedir trabajo. Esta persona no vino a pedir dinero. Esta persona no vino a pedir lo que usualmente muchas personas vienen a requerir. Esta persona vino a evidenciar cuán disminuida está la esperanza de nuestro pueblo cuando a lo único que ella aspira ya es a poder trascender después de su muerte. Que lo único que puede dejar es la probabilidad de que sus dos hijas tengan el don de vivir. Y cuando un pueblo llega a eso, uno tiene que preguntarse si genuinamente está haciendo una política que llega a levantar el ánimo y la esperanza de la gente. Yo pareceré ya una, diría mi mamá, una vitrola repitiendo las cosas que tocan mi consciencia y mi corazón, porque no puedo consentir que en nuestro país haya gente que haya perdido la esperanza de todo porque se han sentido tan abandonados y tan abandonadas que a lo único que pueden aspirar es que, a después de su muerte, aun a temprana edad, por lo menos sus hijos o sus hijas tengan la oportunidad de sobrevivir. Debemos de pensar en eso. 8022 Martes, 28 de agosto de 2018 Núm. 4 Lo segundo es, acabamos de ver una marcha muy robusta de los Bomberos de Puerto Rico, se unieron el personal de Emergencias Médicas. Los Bomberos están realizando lo que ellos le llaman una marcha de la indignación. Y es que están pidiendo justicia. ¿Y quién dudaría en Puerto Rico en que esa justicia se la han ganado? ¿Quién pondría en tela de juicio cuánto nuestros bomberos y nuestro personal de emergencias médicas merecen esa justicia? Pero lo que han recibido es lo contrario. Los bomberos, el personal de Emergencias Médicas, pero sobre todo los bomberos tienen el mismo derecho de ser mirados desde esta Legislatura, desde el Gobierno, que tienen los maestros, que tienen las enfermeras.

El pasado viernes, 24 de agosto de 2018, el combinado nacional conquisto de forma invicta la medalla de oro en el Torneo Centrobasket Femenino, al derrotar al equipo cubano con marcador de 83-54, consiguiendo el boleto clasificatorio al torneo AnieriCztp 2019. Es el segundo oro para Puerto Rico en este torneo centroamericano y el primero desde el 2010. Ademas, de la primera clasificacion en una Copa Mundial en la historia. POR CUANTO: Las "12 Magnificas" sabian que la cave del exito seria no bajar la intensidad, una combinacion de buenas decisiones en la parte defensiva, mucha paciencia en la ofensiva y segim las palabras de su director tecnico, Jerry Batista, iatacar, atacar y atacar! POR CUANTO: Jennifer O'Neill fue seleccionada la Jugadora Mas Valiosa del certamen, cenando con 34 puntos en el juego final ante Cuba.

    RETROSPECTIVES NCHSAA CLASS 1-A WOMEN’S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIPS 1987: Hendersonville 50, Gates County 47 The Lady Bearcats made it a clean 1-A sweep for Hendersonville, which also took the men's crown. Andrea Carter scored 17 points and Valerie Simpson 12 for the winners, while Barbara Jones scored 13 for Gates County. Gates closed out the year 25-4 while Hendersonville posted a 23-7 mark. Both teams shot under 40 percent from the field for the contest. 1988: Hayesville 70, Hobbton 53 Alice Calder hit 13 of 17 shots from the field en route to a 26-point performance, leading unbeaten Hayesville (31-0) to victory. Calder was the game's MVP. Hayesville also got 18 points from Jeanne Coker while Charlene Penland tossed in 16 and grabbed 13 rebounds. Hobbton was paced by Linda Blue's 21 points, including a pair of three-pointers, as the Lady Wildcats finished at 26-6. 1989: Hayesville 70, Chocowinity 41 The Lady Yellow Jackets won their second straight crown, rallying from a 9-7 deficit after one quarter and outscoring the Lady Indians 45-22 in the second half. Jeanne Coker had 22 points and 14 rebounds for the winners, who finished 27-2, while Lori Powell added 21 and grabbed 11 boards. The Jackets outrebounded Chocowinity 57-37. Chrylene Myers led Chocowinity, 26-4, with 22 points but the Lady Indians had a tough shooting day, hitting just 22.2 percent from the floor for the game. 1990: Hayesville 51, Tabor City 48 The Lady Yellow Jackets became the first team to win three straight NCHSAA women's hoop titles.
