This new work item proposal has been submitted by the Emirates Authority for Standardization & Metrology (ESMA) and the proposal details how strong international demand for Halal products and services provides the opportunity for the development of a work program focusing on this area. The proposal lists various objectives and strategic goals for a future Halal-focused work program, including: • Develop and issue relevant standards and specifications in the field of processes and management to ensure the safety, quality, and fitness of products in compliance with Sharia laws and processes; • Develop and issue internationally accepted standards to create a common platform for all Halal products and services; • Ensure proper awareness for both consumers and the public on Halal; • Improve Halal products and ensure the services, systems, and other aspects are satisfying the needs of governments and consumers; • Identify current/future needs related to testing and verification schemes in JWG under the leadership of CASCO (an ISO committee that works on issues relating to conformity assessment); • Identify and establish current/future needs related for Halal: testing, conformity assessment, inspection, certification, and accreditation, and Halal marks of conformity on cooperation with CASCO; • Facilitate Halal trading without barriers; • Satisfy Halal market needs and expectations; For further information or to submit feedback, please contact Standards Australia ([email protected]) by 9th of January 2016. New Projects Manufacture and marketing of pet food Designation: AS 5812 Type: Revision Sector Update – December 2015 Drafts for Public Comment The Drafts for Public Comment stage is an important part of the Standards development process. Draft Standards documents are circulated for public comment to ensure the wider community of stakeholders have the opportunity to input to the development of a Standard. All comments are considered in detail by the relevant Committee and, if necessary, further drafting is undertaken. There are currently no drafts at public comment stage for the Agriculture, Forestry, Fishing and Food Sector between 5 November 2015 and 2 December 2015. Sensory analysis - Part 1.1: Methodology - General guidance Product Designation: AS 2542.1.1 Scope: Adopts ISO 6658:2005 to provide general guidance on the use of sensory analysis, including tests for the examination of food and techniques to be used if statistical analysis of the results is required. Sensory analysis - Part 1.3: Methodology - Selection, training and monitoring of selected assessors and expert sensory assessors Product Designation: AS 2542.1.3 Scope: Adopts ISO 8586:2012 to provide guidelines for the selection, training and monitoring of assessors participating in sensory analysis. History: Originated as AS 2542.1.3—1995. Second edition AS 2543.1.3:2014. Sensory analysis - Part 2.2: Methodology - Triangle test Product Designation: AS 2542.2.2 Scope: Adopts ISO 4120:2004 to provide a procedure for determining whether a perceptible sensory difference or similarity exists between samples of two products. The method is a forced-choice procedure. The method is applicable whether a difference exists in a single sensory attribute or in several attributes. History: Originated as AS 2542.2.2—1983. Previous edition 2005. Third edition AS 2542.2.2:2014. Sensory analysis - Part 2.3: Methodology - Guidelines for the use of quantitative response scales (rating) Product Designation: AS 2542.2.3 Scope: Adopts ISO 4121:2003 to provide guidelines describing quantitative response scales (where the response obtained indicates the intensity of perception) and their use when assessing samples. History: Originated as AS 2542.2.3—1988. Previous edition 2007. Third edition AS 2542.2.3:2014. Sector Update – December 2015 Sensory analysis - Part 2.4: Methodology - Duo-trio test Product Designation: AS 2542.2.4 Scope: Provides a procedure for determining whether a perceptible sensory difference or similarity exists between samples of two products. The method is applicable whether a difference exists in a single sensory attribute or in several attributes. History: Originated as AS 2542.2.4—1988. Previous edition 2005. Third edition AS 2542.2.4:2014. Sensory analysis - Part 2.5: Methodology - 'A-not A' test Product Designation: AS 2542.2.5 Scope: This Standard sets out a method for the ‘A–not A’ test for use in the sensory analysis of foods. History: Originated as AS 2542.2.5—1991. Second edition AS 2542.2.5:2014. Sensory analysis - Part 2.6: Methodology - Ranking Product Designation: AS 2542.2.6 Scope: Adopts ISO 8587:2006 to provide a procedure for determining the rank order in a specified attribute or criterion for three or more samples. History: Originated as AS 2542.2.6—1995. Second edition AS 2542.2.6:2014. Sensory analysis - Part 3: Vocabulary Product Designation: AS 2542.3 Scope: Adopts ISO 5492:2008 to provide definitions of terms that are used in Australia for sensory analysis. History: Originated as AS 2542.3—1995. Second edition AS 2542.3:2014. Food microbiology - Method 6: Examination for specific organisms - Campylobacter Product Designation: AS 5013.6 Scope: This Standard sets out reference methods for the detection and enumeration of Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli in meat and poultry. History: Originated as AS 1766.2.13—1991. Revised and designated as AS 5013.6:2015. Guide to determining the equivalence of food microbiology test methods - Part 1: Qualitative tests Product Designation: AS 4659.1 Scope: This Standard sets out a protocol that may be used to determine whether an alternate method will yield a result equivalent to an Australian Standard food microbiology method (AS 5013 series), the result for which is reported as ‘detected’ or ‘not detected’. History: First published as AS/NZS 4659.1:1999. Second edition redesignated and published as AS 4659.1:2015. Guide to determining the equivalence of food microbiology test methods - Part 2: Quantitative tests Product Designation: AS 4659.2 Scope: This Standard sets out a protocol that may be used to determine whether an alternate enumeration method will yield an equivalent result to an Australian Standard food microbiology method (AS 5013 series). History: First published as AS/NZS 4659.2:1999. Second edition redesignated and published as AS 4659.2:2015. Guide to determining the equivalence of food microbiology test methods - Part 3: Confirmation tests Product Designation: AS 4659.3 Scope: This Standard sets out a protocol that may be used to determine whether an alternate method will yield a result equivalent to an Australian Standard, food microbiology method (AS 5013 series), for confirmation tests using a pure culture. History: First published as AS/NZS 4659.3:1999. Second edition redesignated and published as AS 4659.3:2015. Sector Update – December 2015 Tree stock for landscape use Product Designation: AS 2303 Scope: Specifies above-ground and below-ground requirements for trees that are to be supplied for landscape use. It sets out requirements for containerized, bare rooted and ex- ground trees and applies to all stages of tree growth, from propagation through to dispatch. History: First published as AS 2303:2015. Organic and biodynamic products Product Designation: AS 6000 Scope: Sets out the minimum criteria to be met by operators, before products can be labelled as ‘organic’, ‘biodynamic’ or ‘in-conversion’ or any
