Dear neighbors,

The Department of Transportation (MDT) will return to Highway 191 in late May. The bridges that cross the Gallatin River on the way to Big Sky are in need of repair so that they can carry residents, skiers, fishers, hikers and bikers safely to and from our homes and the areas we know and love.

Three bridges will receive deck repairs or replacements: Lone Mountain Trail Bridge (near the intersection of Lone Mountain Trail and Highway 191), Little Coyote Road Bridge (near the intersection of Lone Mountain Trail and Little Coyote Drive) and the Highway 191 Bridge (two miles north of the Lone Mountain Trail intersection). 3. MDT will hold virtual OPEN HOUSES VIA ZOOM 11:00 AM 5:30 PM Registration is required. Visit bitly.com/bigskybridges to register.

Meetings will be virtual to adhere to social distancing mandates. Unlike other open houses, there will be introductions with information to follow, so we encourage you to tune in for the entire hour. This will offer an opportunity to “meet” the crews that will be working in your area and to learn more about the repairs that will increase the safety of Highway 191. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT ON YOUR COMMUTE: • Construction from late-May to November, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. • Single-lane closures with a portable traffic signal in place directing one lane of traffic over the bridge at a time. Both directions of travel will be maintained throughout the project. • Delays of up to 15 minutes at each location. Because construction on Lone Mountain Trail Bridge and Little Coyote Road Bridge will be completed at the same time, please plan for two delays if both bridges are on your travel route.

The Montana Department of Transportation understands that residents are experiencing the growth of the Big Sky area and an increase in construction activity to support the expansion. Our team is dedicated to ensuring that this project runs smoothly and delivering a safer road for all who travel to this beautiful corner of Montana. Project updates are available via text or email and will be sent weekly. Thank you for your patience as we continue to improve this route.

The Montana Department of Transportation together with its construction contracting partners are taking the COVID-19 pandemic very seriously. Construction projects on Montana’s roads and bridges are considered an “essential” operation and will move forward as scheduled in 2020. While construction workers traveling to a worksite are exempt from the 14-day self-isolation travel rules, several measures have been implemented to help keep employees, contractors and the public safe during the construction season. Some of the measures include following social distancing and good hygiene guidelines, and not reporting to work if showing symptoms of illness. For more information visit https://covid19.mt.gov/
