James Biery Christopher Shaw, organ Welcome and Announcements Opening Hymn Sing a New World into Being (page 7) Responsive Call to Worship From Psalm 98 One: O sing to God a new song, for God has done marvelous things. All: Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; break forth into joyous song and sing praises. One: Sing praises to God with the lyre, with the lyre and the sound of melody. All: Let the floods clap their hands; let the hills sing together for joy at the presence of God, for God is coming to judge the world with right- eousness, and the peoples with equity. Response of Praise AZMON 2 Invocation and Lord’s Prayer Come Holy Spirit, open our hearts and minds this day, inspire us with your Word that we may share with others, as we seek to live our lives modeled af- ter the one who prayed ... Our Mother, who art in heaven hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debt- ors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Scripture Reading Genesis 32:24-31 Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until daybreak. When the man saw that he did not prevail against Jacob, he struck him on the hip socket; and Jacob’s hip was put out of joint as he wrestled with him. Then he said, ‘Let me go, for the day is breaking.’ But Jacob said, ‘I will not let you go, unless you bless me.’ So he said to him, ‘What is your name?’ And he said, ‘Jacob.’ Then the man said, ‘You shall no longer be called Jacob, but Israel, for you have striven with God and with humans, and have prevailed.’ Then Jacob asked him, ‘Please tell me your name.’ But he said, ‘Why is it that you ask my name?’ And there he blessed him. So Jacob called the place Peniel, saying, ‘For I have seen God face to face, and yet my life is preserved.’ The sun rose upon him as he passed Penuel, limping because of his hip.
