Historical Figures in the IHM Congregational History as portrayed in the art of S. Helen David Brancato, IHM ANNUAL REPORT 2019-2020 Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Immaculata, Pennsylvania Fall 2020 • Volume 19 No. 3 Joyful bearers of God’s Sunday, August 10, Sister Christina Marie Roberts and Sister Kathryn Teresa Clemmer made final profession of Redeeming vows in Sacred Heart Chapel. Family and friends made the day complete along with a formal picture with the IHM Love Administration and the Most Rev. Timothy C. Senior. Dear Friends, Relatives, and Benefactors, “The good that already has been performed by the grace of God is incalculable but who can measure all that is yet to be done?” These words written 175 years ago by Father Louis Gillet C.Ss.R., our Co-Founder, resonate during this 175th anniversary year in the hearts of every IHM sister. In writing to his Provincial Superior, Father Gillet was searching for others who could help him minister to God’s people especially the most abandoned poor. Shortly after this plea from Father Gillet, the IHM Congregation welcomed its first members and by the grace of God the good that has been performed is incalculable. As IHM sisters, our reflections during this 175th Anniversary year have made us pause and look back on our unique history so that we can look forward to discern all the “good that is yet to be done.” In doing so, we realize ever more clearly that our associations with our lay colleagues and our benefactors have enabled us to respond to God’s grace to offer compassion to all of God’s people through our mission to evangelize, to catechize and to teach. This anniversary year has been a unique experience for all of us. The global pandemic of COVID-19 and the heightened awareness of the systemic racism that still afflicts our nation has seared our hearts. Not only have these events made us more conscious of the needs of others, but of our own need to strengthen our relationships and broaden our consciousness that we are called to take care of one another. Your involvement in the life and the good works of the IHM Congregation as reflected in this Annual Report, energizes all of us to be more and to do more. Our history informs us that we cannot respond on our own. Your goodness to us and your embrace of the IHM Charism assures us that we are not alone. We are grateful for your prayers, your expertise, your volunteer work, and your financial support. Our local communities, our cities, our nation, and our Church need all of us more than ever. In you we witness a response to “all the good that is yet to be done.” We are humbled by your presence in our lives and we value the relationships we have formed in partnering with you. You are at the heart of our 175th Anniversary celebration stories. Thank you for being an integral part of the IHM legacy. Our gratitude is incalculable as well as our hope in our continued response to make a difference in the lives of others. You are a major source and inspiration of that hope. With gratitude for the gift we have been given in you, Sister Mary Ellen Tennity, IHM General Superior 1 Gift SummaryGift Summary July 1, 2019 to June 30, 2020 July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017 TOTAL GIVING $2,307,418.00 Congregational Donations Ministry TOTAL GIVING IHM Ministry $2,600,608.00 Funding Sources Ministry $34,437.00, 2% FundingAnnual Sources Appeal Ministry Direct Gifts $356,664.00 Restricted Ministries Congregational General Superior’s Discretion Donations $396,357.00, IHMLiteracy Centers Centers for Literacy $206,357.00 17% South(Giving America Tuesday) Vocations South America Vo c at i on s Camilla Hall Camilla Hall Nursing Home $1,876,624.00, $2,037,587.00 CamillaFunding SourcesHall 81% ConventDirect Home Gifts Camilla Hall Fundraising FundingCampaign Sources Pledges AnnualRetirement Appeal Fund MemorialEstate Gifts Tribute Gifts Camilla Hall FundraisingEstate Gifts UnitedRetirement Way/Workplace Fund Giving Congregational MemorialMatching Donations Gifts Donations United Way/Workplace Giving Matching Gifts These funds reflect gifts given directly Amazon Smile Congregationalto Congregational leadership. Dear Loving and Faithful Donors, I never dreamed this letter would be written when almost nothing in the 19-20 fiscal year would be as we imagined it. The year 2020 was to be our grand celebration of 175 years of IHM history – a legacy of grace! But, when March arrived, our plans like yours and everyone’s were either postponed, radically changed or cancelled. No Donor Appreciation event, no jubilee celebrations at VMHS and Camilla, no Nun Run, no visits to the Camilla sisters, no community gatherings, no Camilla Oktoberfest, no Founders’ Day Mass of Thanksgiving, no celebratory Mass at the Cathedral and no face without a mask! HOWEVER, I also never dreamed I would be able to work from home; I would find that zoom meetings are quite effective; I would have time to pray more, read more and clean more and so appreciate the creative and wonderful ways people encouraged and supported one another. Morever, I would never have dreamed that our benefactors would be able to continue their faithful, generous support in these challenging times. HOWEVER, you hold in your hands the testament that you and all our donors did continue and even surpass our dreams. We may not have celebrated our 175-year history as planned (YET) but we, with you, are now inscribed in these pages of our history. Throughout the list of names, we have inserted thoughts from and about our IHM leaders from 1845 until the present. From Father Gillet to Sister Mary Ellen, there is a seamless flow of hopes, vision and commitment to serve which no pandemic can stop. The sisters who died this year and whose loving tributes you read, as well as every IHM from 1845 to 2020, are joined to you in prayer and gratitude. Together with you, we claim our shared part of this wonderful legacy of grace.
