The first building was destroyed by fire in 1893. The second was completed in 1898 and served as the high school until 1927. It then served as Central Junior High until 1964 when it became the Marshalltown Community College. This building was torn down during the summer of 1980 when a new college building was completed. In 1927 the third high school was completed. It presently serves as Miller Middle School. To accommodate the growth of Marshalltown's student population, a new high school, our present building, was completed in 1965. The building included three units-- academic, cafeteria/service, and a gymnasium. Since that time, there have been three major additions to the high school complex. In 1979-80 an addition for art and music was completed. The MHS Community Auditorium was completed in 1985. In 1988-89 the north courtyard was converted into a new Media Center, and the former center was divided into seven classrooms. The 1989-90 school year was the first as a four year high school for MHS. At the beginning of the 2003-2004 school year,

    CIML High School Site Locations & Directions Ames High School -- 1921 Ames High Drive, Ames Exit off of I-35 at the 13th Street Exit and proceed west to Grand Avenue. At Grand, turn right and proceed to the 20th Street stop lights. At 20th and Grand, turn left and proceed west to the high school. Basketball, volleyball, swimming, track, wrestling, football, softball and soccer facilities are located at the high school. Baseball -- is located at Brookside Park. At 13th and Grand, turn left and proceed south to 6th Street, where you turn right and proceed west. After you cross the river, turn right into Brookside. Tennis -- is commonly held at Ames High and if necessary Innis Grove or Brookside Park (go to 24th and Grand and turn right and proceed east to the courts). Golf -- is normally held at Ames Golf & Country Club -- from 24th and Grand turn left and proceed west. Follow 24th (it becomes R-50) west and north to the Country Club which is approximately three miles north. Soccer -- played at AHS football stadium. Ankeny High School -- 1302 NW Ankeny Blvd., Ankeny Off I-35, take Exit 92 into Ankeny. You will be on 1st Street. Proceed west on 1st Street, to Ankeny Blvd. (Hwy 69). Turn north (right) on Ankeny Blvd. and proceed approximately 1/4 mile. The high school is on west side of highway. All athletic facilities except golf, cross country and tennis are located at or near the high school. Golf and cross country usually compete at Otter Creek Golf & Recreational Area, approximately two miles north of the school on Highway 69, then a mile east.

    BRIEF HISTORY OF THE IOWA HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION The Iowa High School Athletic Association had its origin in the Iowa High School Principals Club. At a meeting of the Club in 1903, a committee was appointed to draft a series of rules and regulations for the general and definite control of high school athletics throughout the state. This committee, consisting of Forest C. Ensign, Council Bluffs, as Chairman and Maurice Ricker, Burlington, presented its report at the annual meeting of the Principals Club in 1904, when it was adopted by the Club. At a called meeting of the Superintendents and Principals, December 28,1904, the Iowa High School Athletic Association was formed, and the aforesaid rules and regulations herein following were unanimously adopted. D.A. Thornburg, Grinnell; George Edward Marshall, Sioux City; and Frank L Smart, Dubuque, were elected members of the Board of Control to serve one, two, and three years, respectively. Upon the removal of Superintendent Thornburg from the state in July, A.V. Storm, Cherokee, was chosen to fill the vacancy. At a meeting of the Association in Des Moines, December 28,1905, Superintendent Storm was elected a member of the Board of Control to serve three years and several amendments were made to the Rules and Regulations. At a meeting in Des Moines, December 26,1906, R.S. Whitley was elected to the Board of Control vice George Edward Marshall, whose term had expired. September 21,1907, A.V. Storm and Frank L. Smart resigned, and M.M. Bedall, Boone, and R.B. Crone, Washington, were appointed to fill vacancies.
