La Navidad En Los Paises Hispanos ___________________________________________________________________Teaching Spanish.org NOTA CULTURAL – LA NAVIDAD EN LOS PAISES HISPANOS Pasan los días y las horas del mes de diciembre y nos acercamos a la celebración de una nueva Navidad. Ese momento tan especial del año que nos motiva para el encuentro con los seres que amamos. La Navidad reaviva en los corazones los sentimientos más nobles: el amor, la alegría, el agradecimiento, la compasión...Por eso es importante que, además de celebrar con nuestros familiares y amigos, tratemos de visitar o invitar a nuestras casas a aquellas personas que sufren, están solas o enfermas. En muchos hogares de los Estados Unidos en éstos días reinará la tristeza, provocada por la ausencia de seres queridos que perdieron la vida el 11 de septiembre - víctimas fatales del terrorismo - o que se encuentran lejos de su tierra, en un campo de batalla. Quienes no pasamos por tan amargas experiencias, tenemos que ser solidarios con el dolor de nuestros semejantes. Yo los acompañaré con el corazón, porque si Dios me lo permite, pasaré la Navidad junto a mi familia, en la Argentina. Desde allí, rodeado de amor, les prometo que elevaré mi copa y brindaré por ustedes deseándoles todo lo mejor... HISTORIA DE LA NAVIDAD Los historiadores dicen que entre los años 320 y 353 de nuestra era, el Papa Julio I estableció el 25 de diciembre como fecha para la celebración de la Navidad, a los efectos de conmemorar así el nacimiento de Jesús. Otros estudiosos dicen que Jesús no nació la noche del 24 al 25 de diciembre. Incluso se animan a decir que su nacimiento se produjo entre cuatro y seis años antes del inicio de la Era Cristiana y que la fijación de estas fechas se debió a un error de cálculo del monje Dionisio el Exiguo, realizada en el año 540. Lo que si se sabe con certeza es que la llegada de Jesucristo al mundo se produjo durante el reinado de Herodes. Cientos de años después fue el monje San Francisco de Asís quien popularizó la costumbre de armar un pesebre para el día de Navidad. Dicen que en un viaje que realizo a Belén, en el año 1220, se asombró por la manera en que allí celebraban la Navidad. Cuando regresó a Italia, le pidió autorización al Papa Honorio III para representar el nacimiento de Jesús con un pesebre viviente. A partir de ese momento la tradición se extendió por Europa y luego por el resto del mundo hasta nuestros días. HISTORIA DE LA NAVIDAD Un hermoso símbolo de la Navidad es la figura de Papá Noel, ese simpático personaje que reparte regalos de casa en casa. Su figura está inspirada en la vida de San Nicolás, que fue obispo de Mira, vivió en Turquía y era muy querido por su generosa bondad hacia los pobres. Papá Noel adopta diferentes nombres según el país en dónde se lo recuerde. ___________________________________________________________________Teaching Spanish.org En cuanto al árbol de la Navidad, el cristianismo lo asocia con el Árbol de la Vida, que lucía en medio del Jardín del Edén. Las frutas recuerdan las gracias y dones que el hombre tenía cuando vivía en el Paraíso (Edén). Los adornos y las luces que se encienden representan el amor de Cristo. Pero hay otra versión que tiene origen en una leyenda: se dice que durante una fría noche de invierno un niño busco refugio en la casa de un leñador. El hombre y su esposa lo recibieron y le dieron de comer. Durante la noche el niño, que era el Niño Dios, se convirtió en un ángel vestido de oro. Para recompensar la bondad de los ancianos el Niño tomo una rama de un pino y les dijo que la sembraran, prometiéndoles que cada año daría frutos. Así fue: el árbol dio manzanas de oro y nueces de plata. LA NAVIDAD EN DISTINTOS PAISES DEL MUNDO En Argentina tanto los cristianos como los no cristianos aprovechan la Nochebuena para reunirse con sus familiares y amigos. El motivo es lo suficientemente importante como para repetir una acción tradicional que tenemos por nuestros orígenes europeos: sentarnos alrededor de una mesa y disfrutar de una rica comida. La cocina argentina de Navidad es especial. Aunque haga mucho calor – recordemos que en el cono sur diciembre es época de verano – seguimos el ritual de los países europeos que soportan las más bajas temperaturas y comemos: pavo, cerdo, cordero, pollo, carne asada al horno o a la parrilla, matambre casero (carne de vaca rellena con huevo duro, aceitunas, ajíes y otras verduras, que se cocina en el horno o se hierve). Pastas rellenas con carne o verduras. Se sirven mesas con distintos tipos de quesos; también salames, chorizos, papas fritas, pate de foie, etc. De postre se presentan tortas y frutas secas (nueces, almendras o higos desecados), pan dulce de origen italiano o hecho en el país, turrones de maní, chocolates, etc. Se bebe vino tinto o blanco (en la Argentina los hay de muy buena calidad y son reconocidos entre los mejores del mundo), sidra (bebida hecha con manzana fermentada), champagne, cerveza y bebidas sin alcohol. A las 12 de la noche, aproximadamente, cada integrante de la familia retira su regalo del árbol de Navidad y saluda a los demás con abrazos y besos. Alrededor de las 2 ó 3 de la mañana, mientras los mayores siguen la celebración en las casas, los más jóvenes salen y van a bailar a las discotecas. Hasta que los sorprende la hora del desayuno, que disfrutan junto a sus amigos, en bares cercanos a los lugares de diversión. En la región de Puebla (México) se hace una “posada”, que es una procesión para simular el camino que hicieron José y Maria en su trayecto hasta el lugar donde nació Jesús. En Santo Domingo las fiestas comienzan a mediados de octubre, cuando van llegando los dominicanos residentes en el extranjero, para visitar a sus familiares y amigos. Normalmente la cena navideña consta de: pavo asado o guisado, pollos asados, cerdo a la puya (asado), ensalada rusa (papa, huevo, zanahoria, arvejas y mayonesa), pasteles, frituras y otras ___________________________________________________________________Teaching Spanish.org comidas típicas. Las mesas se llenan de peras, manzanas, uvas (importadas) y variedad de frutos secos, con algunas diferencias de acuerdo a las características de cada región. Las navidades australianas se festejan con una temperatura ambiente que puede llegar a los 40 grados centígrados, porque allí es verano, igual que en Argentina. Un fenómeno reciente en Australia son las celebraciones de “Christmas in July”, donde se sirve una comida tradicionalmente navideña con las típicas decoraciones y se cantan villancicos. Estos festejos permiten superar la nostalgia de las “Navidades Blancas” del hemisferio norte. Con el transcurrir de los años, el estilo inglés de celebración se ha ido mezclando con el de los inmigrantes de distintos países, por lo que las reuniones familiares se realizan en los jardines de las casas; hay picnics en parques, jardines y playas. El menú típico incluye mariscos, jamón dulce, pollo, pavo o patos fríos, tartaletas, plumcakes, etc. En Francia, tras la misa de gallo que se celebra a las 12 de la noche, se sirve el “reveillon”, nombre que se da a la cena de Nochebuena. Los platos varían de acuerdo a la región: en Paris, los favoritos son las ostras y el foiegras. Los tradicionales pasteles en forma de leño de árbol se sirven en todas las localidades. En Nochebuena, según cuenta una leyenda francesa, justo a la medianoche los animales se arrodillan y hablan entre ellos. En Inglaterra hay quienes todavía usan la cáscara de las naranjas para decorar sus árboles de Navidad. Las cortan en espiral y las dejan secar al aire libre. La cáscara toma un color bonito y adquiere un aroma especial. Estas son algunas costumbres que he podido rescatar para ustedes sobre la celebración de la Navidad. Our Summer Ballet Intensives are a wonderful opportunity for any aspiring ballet student, from any studio, excited to learn pieces from the Nutcracker Ballet as well as grow in skill and artistry.
