CIPHER DISK EDITION USER'S MANUAL As we will see, there are many varied ways to use the Enigmaze password log book, and in this short guide we will explore several of them. It is important when creating passwords to use eight characters or more, each successive character adding to the entropy of the password. Each character added to a password creates an additional exponential layer of difficulty for a hacker to guess or crack using brute force methods. Another common requirement from many websites is the inclusion of upper and lowercase characters as well as numbers and symbols. The Enigmaze grid allows the creation of longer passwords with symbols, numbers and mixed case letters in an easy and more importantly, easy to remember fashion. One other feature worth mentioning is that every page of the Enigmaze consists of a different grid adding to the security of the passwords. This holds true even if somebody else has your Enigmaze. The Enigmaze password kit includes a premium hardcover, pocket size, thread bound notebook with an elastic closure, pen loop, and an inner expandable pocket. In addition to the notebook, the kit contains a cipher/decipher wheel, a removable label for anonymity, a credit card sized plastic password card, a tricolor invisible ink marker, a UV LED light key chain, and self adhesive alphabetical index tabs. Everything in the password kit comes in a luxury gift box. The Enigmaze is used around the world by individual internet users as well as by big corporations. The easiest method to use Enigmaze is to remember a letter from the vertical outer coordinate system. Example on page one remember that your password is the letter “A”. This is your password: cSW'=i”hmc%G Because this method is probably the first to come in mind, we don't recommend using it, but it is the easiest to illustrate. Better method is to use a portion of the grid and append it to your current password. Even if you have the same password for all your websites, this will guarantee unique passwords and easy to recover. Example: Remember that you append A60 to your current password “Mike76" The result is: Mike76i”hmc Let's look at some of the simplest yet secure ways to use the notebook: In this example, our common password is “Weasel”. The site we'll use is gmail.com 1) Think of a common word or phrase that you'll use as a building block for all of your passwords. It can be your current password. In this case the memorized word is “Weasel” 2) On the Website line of the page write the domain name, gmail.com in this instance. 3) Find the first letter of your user name on the grid. We'll use 'U’ 4) From the first letter of the user name, move horizontally six spaces. Ideally you want your password to be at least 8 characters long. 5) Add the letters, numbers, or symbols contained in those six spaces to the end of your memorized base password. The result is: Weasel4rXgx@ 6) If you have multiple user names, use the first letter of the next user name. 7) If the user names start with the same letter, use the first differing letter as the reference marker on the grid. gmail.com Now you can create a new password for other websites like Yahoo, or Facebook. To help you remember, you can write the domain and your user name on top. If you use the same username for all your accounts, you can even omit it for extra security. If you have many usernames that you don’t remember, you can use the ruled page on the left to notate them and point them to the passwords on the grid. Username1 draw a little arrow so you know the direction Username2 Username3 Username4 Username5 if special symbols or numbers are not allowed by the web form, highlight only the symbols you Username6 want WHAT IF I LOSE MY BOOK? If you used variations on an existing memorized password, you just need a system to remember the additions. One possibility is using your smart phone to take pictures of your password pages. It's a good idea to have a system for choosing the extra symbols from the grid. For example, using the letters an numbers for navigation, use your birth date or wedding anniversary. Here you can get creative and also make a memorable system. If your notebook was lost or stolen, you'll be able to recreate your system and transfer passwords to a new notebook. Until you receive your new Enigmaze, a PDF version of the grid is always available at www.enigmaze.org/emergency.pdf WHERE WILL YOU USE IT? Some users use it only at home, while others may travel and use public computers. If you have roommates or use the Enigmaze in the workplace, a more thoughtful method of encryption should be used. TRICOLOR UV MARKER The UV marker is used in several different ways to draw an invisible line or lines on the grid. The lines drawn are visible only when illuminated with a UV light, which is provided with the Enigmaze. When not viewed with the UV light, the Enigmaze page appears to be unmarked. This method is useful to prevent for example a guest at your house or office to quickly sneak at your notebook while you are gone for minute. He will open the book and see nothing. The best way to use this method is to use it to append it to your existing password. This will prevent problems even if you lose your notebook or got stolen. Ø You can draw a line or lines either straight or an angle starting anywhere on the grid, whether it be from the edges or the middle or the top or the bottom. Ø You can additionally draw a curved line. Ø You can even combine straight, angled, and curved lines. Ø You can Highlight different letter or symbols. Ø You can Highlight different letters or symbols as reference points. When it's time to decode the invisible lines, simply illuminate the Enigmaze page with a UV light. Also, remember that the UV pen is not erasable, so when it's time to change or update the password you need to change the page or enumerate your lines so you know which one is the last one. The invisible ink marker can fade after several weeks or less depending on light conditions, humidity and temperature. Direct sunlight should always be avoided even if you are not using the UV marker. It's a good idea to only use the invisible UV marker when you change passwords often or need extra protection from prying eyes. With the tricolor marker, you can have multiple colors on the same page for different passwords. The UV light key-chain has a 395nm LED and only at that wavelength you will be able to distinguish the green and blue ink. Any other UV light will show the green as blue. You can use this for better security or to confuse the enemy. 395 nm other WHAT IF I LOSE MY UV LIGHT? UV lights and invisible markers are available at Amazon online stores and at most craft and toy stores. Don't press hard when using the marker or a pen, as smudging of the grid's ink and pen traces can reveal your secret. MY UV LIGHT IS NOT WORKING. WHAT CAN I DO? LED pin connector it's possible during shipping that the battery contacts were displaced. To inspect the contacts or change batteries, gently squeeze the sides of the light or use a small screwdriver Gently squeeze sideways or use a small screwdriver to open the plastic enclosure to inspect the contact plates or to change the batteries. CAN I CONSOLIDATE THE USE OF THE NOTEBOOK, THE CARD AND THE BRACELET? If you want to be able to use the notebook, the wallet card and the bracelet interchangeably, you will be limited to only one grid, so you need to have a specific system for password generation/storage. The grid on the first page of your Enigmaze notebook is exactly the same as the grid on the card while the bracelet has a different outer navigation and partially different grid. CIPHER WHEEL The cipher wheel is conveniently placed on the front inner cover so you can easily consult any gridded page from the notebook while looking at it at the same time. Cipher Wheels like this were used widely during the first and second world war to encrypt/decrypt messages. It can add a layer of security to your password generating methods.
