How many rich harvests of specimens do these yield the collector from time to time? This volume is intended to answer at least some of these questions. From the viewpoint of the biologist, artist, engineer, or craftsman, shellfish present lessons in development, construction, symme- try, harmony and color which are almost unique. To the novice an acquaint- ance with these creatures will reveal an entirely new world which, in addi- tion to affording real pleasure, will supply much of practical value. Life is indeed limitless and among the lesser animals this is particularly true.

A literature review of the genus, and an inventory of currently recognised species of the genus Canalispira Jousseaume, 1875 is presented. Photographs of the animal of Canalispira and its radula confirm its correct placement in the Cystiscidae, and morphologie comparisons are made between western Atlantic and other Worldwide species. Three new species of Canalispira are described: C. phantasia n. sp. and C. ornata n. sp. from northern Honduras, and C. fluctuata n. sp. from Belize and northern Honduras. By CHARLES F. LASEI;0N. Honorary Correspondent, Australian Museum, (Plutes V-VI.) Marginella is common in, but not confined to Australian seas, About a thousand species have been described, many from the tropics, but the majority from temperate waters of the southern hemisphere, In Australia, particularly in the south, they form a conspicuous element of the marine molluscan fauna. The most complete list of Australian species is that published by Bernard C, Cotton,' of the South Australian Museum. He lists 92 species, including several that are new. Fifteen more new species are now added from New South Wales, and no doubt a numbe:r 'Still remain to be described, particularly from Western Australia, north Australia and Queensland. It is interesting to note that most of the described species have a fairly wide geographical distribution, and many are common to several zoo-geographical provinces. As is to be expected, there is a somewhat closer relationship between New South Wales species with those of Tasmania, than with those of the Flindersian fauna (Victoria, South Australia and the southern portion of Western Australia), but many species are common to all three areas.

Th e remarkable variability in shell size and shape required a preliminary mor- phometric analysis, which provided evidence of a single species. Th is is the last known representative of the genus Marginella in the Mediterranean, today highly diverse in the tropical and subtropical shallow waters of West Africa, up to about 28°N. Th e genus Marginella was thought to have disappeared from KEY WORDS the Mediterranean and the adjacent Atlantic after the Early Pliocene, due to early cooling phases. © Sociedad Española de Malacología Iberus , 23 (2): 47-52, 2005 The discovery of a radula in a Dentimargo species and its taxonomic implications Descubrimiento de la rádula en una especie de Dentimargo y sus implicaciones taxonómicas Franck BOYER* Recibido el 28-IV-2005. Aceptado el 6-X-2005 ABSTRACT The discovery of a comb-like radula in specimens of Dentimargo cf. aureocinctum (Stearns, 1872) is recorded. The occurrence of such a radula in a presumed non-radulate genus suggests a very close relationship between the genus Dentimargo and the genus Volvarina Hinds, 1844. This matter invalidates the taxonomic organisation currently accepted within the Marginellinae, and especially that between the Tribes Marginellini and Prunini. The conchological differenciation of Dentimargo from the Volvarina -Dentimargo common stem is shown to have arisen before the loss of the radula, and this loss is considered to have little taxonomic value within the mar - ginellid gastropods. Due to its high conchological similarity with the type species D. dentifera (Lamarck, 1803), D. cf. aureocinctum is conserved in the genus Dentimargo , which is provisionally considered as being composed both of radulate and of non-radulate species.
