ASK MST3K FAN MAIL ARCHIVE Why I’m thankful for MST3K bringbackmst3k: From: Brianna Coben Subject: Why I’m thankful for MST3K Dear Mr. Hodgson, I read that for this Turkey Day, you are looking for things relating to why we, the fans, are thankful for MST3K, and decided it was only right if I pitched in. Now that this is out of the way, allow me to introduce myself! My name is Brianna, I’m 18 years old, and have been a MSTie since I was 12. My love of the show came about after my dad and I started making fun of a bad movie on TV. He said, “We’re just doing Mystery Science Theater 3000!” and at some point soon afterwards, he got a few DVDs of the show, including MST3K: The Movie, and the first actual episode I ever watched, The Giant Gila Monster. And ever since I saw those two DVDs, I wanted to see more MST, and more of the funny remarks made by you, Mike, and the Bots over the course of all ten seasons. (Although I must admit I still haven’t seen every episode yet.) Hello Joel, I am so thankful for you and your creativity and gentle spirit, as it has given such joy to me and my two daughters, Josie (18) & Meara (12). We truly consider you a part of our family and are exploding with such joy at the thought of new episodes coming soon! There never has been a holiday, birthday, weekend, or snow day without you. MST3K has brought us through some very rough situations and life events and for that I am forever grateful. The girls have included a drawing for you. Blessings to you and your family, Michele, Meara and Josie Joel says: Michele, thanks for you kind words. So happy MST has been a good thing for you. That’s just one of the reasons we want to bring it back. Not only is it fun to make, fortunately, it’s also fun to watch! bringbackmst3k 8 notes I have been a fan since 1992, when I was 11 years old! I remember crying awfully the day Joel left the show. I love drawing the theater silhouette all the time. This was done on paper and then finished digitally. I call it “Rosie the Riffer” and I hope to do this costume in real life soon! #bringbackmst3k 12 notes heyitspizzaking: Beyond Inktober 26! I’ve always wanted to write in to MST3K, but I missed the boat the first time around. So I’m really glad you’re doing this! Here’s my reinterpretation of Norman Rockwell’s ‘Freedom From Want’, featuring many fine Klack products. Since I can’t draw humans so they resemble the humans they’re supposed to resemble, I should explain that I’ve drawn you as the patriarch, and the lady serving the gold- roasted mutant hellbeast is Mike in a dress. Enjoy! -Melissa bringbackmst3k 8 notes Color Me Thankful bringbackmst3k: From: JaMarie Jenkins Subject: fan letter, thank you GREETING FROM EARTH! Many things have changed here on the little blue marble, but they’re still making bad movies. That why we need MST3K now more then ever! Dear Mr. Joel and The Bots, In 1990 my friend Candy Rose showed me MST3K and I have been a fan ever sense and was so excited to hear of a new season, I had to sit down. I was sure to donate and am hoping to up my donation soon. Last year I made some coloring pages to hand out to children at Sci Fi Valley in Altoona, PA, some were MST3K (enclosed). And was so happy to find a number of Misties I ran into! WE NEED A SALUTE! My mom is not a fan but still says “push the button, Frank”. Its so nice to have a show that entertains adults and the kids. I am also enclosing photos of Christmas ornaments and earrings I made. You have inspired so many. Thank you, JaMarie Jenkins p.s. sorry I’m not good at writing e-mails Keep reading bringbackmst3k 6 notes Snapbot bringbackmst3k: From: jamie richardson Subject: fan art submission for turkey day 2015 Dear joel and the bots, This is a little doodle i did on snapchat of Crow. What do you think, sirs? Yours in good health, Jamie Richardson, Esq. Joel says: Ha! This actually looks like something Crow would draw! Thanks for sending this, Jamie. Happy Turkey Day. bringbackmst3k 6 notes Bringing People Together bringbackmst3k: From: Kate Ellis Subject: Why I’m thankful for MST3k Dear guys, gals, and ‘bots, Thank you for helping me break the ice, relax, and crack up with friends, family, first dates, coworkers, roommates, perfect strangers, and my fiancé. Thank you for inspiring me to riff on my own, and make up funny voices and songs. Thank you for being there when I was lonely or blue, and reminding me to take life less seriously. Finally, thank you for the chance to give back. Could not be more thrilled about the Kickstarter! From the bottom of my heart, Kate Joel says: Kate, So glad you’ve found some value in what we do, and thank you for the support. But, wait a sec. I’m assuming that you being “thrilled” about the Kickstarter means you’ve contributed money to the Kickstarter. Right? Good, just so we’re clear on that. bringbackmst3k 3 notes There was a special guest on the MST3K Turkey Day Fan Mail segment: an 8-year-old girl whose letter was read on an old episode who’s all grown up. Meet Ashley Holtgraver, from the electropop band FREEZEPOP. 50 notes Love At First Riff bringbackmst3k: From: Ian Tregillis Subject: Why we’re thankful: we’re MARRIED, thanks to MST3K! Dear Joel, Crow, Tom, Gypsy, Cambot, and Magic Voice, We are deeply thankful for Mystery Science Theater 3000, because without it we might not be married today! MST3K was just 2 years old, barely out of its nest at KTMA (good old channel 23) and we were a pair of shy, awkward high school seniors when we met in 1990. So shy, in fact, that despite how much we obviously liked each other, two years passed before we went on our first REAL DATE in 1992: a live showing of MST3K at the Uptown Theater in Minneapolis, MN. Our shared love of MST3K overcame all obstacles. One of us still has the ticket stub from that day, as you can see in the attached photo! 22 years later, we were married. It wasn’t exactly a straight line, but we think the causal relationship is irrefutable. So, Tom, when you describe yourself as a "finder of lost loves,“ you’re more right than you know! Thank you, MST3K, for teaching us to laugh at love. And thank you for all of the wonderful memories. We look forward to many new MST3K memories for years to come. With gratitude and love, Ian Tregillis & Sara Gmitter P.S. "Sampo” is the feeling you get when you’ve just left a party and you suddenly realize you’ve been addressing somebody by the wrong name all evening. Did we win anything? bringbackmst3k 10 notes bringbackmst3k: From: David Tinsley Subject: Fan Letters Hello MST3K, I’m sending a couple of scanned fan letters that my 8 and 15 year old boys made for you guys. You don’t know us, but we’ve all been hanging out for years, and you’re all honorary parts of the family. We can’t wait to watch the new episodes. Hopefully, twelve or 24…and then ongoing forever!!! We’re helping get the word out as much and as often as we can daily! If you ever travel like Rifftrax does, we’ll be there too!!! Wishing you the best luck on raising as much as humanly possible (in the not too distant future). Let’s have a Patrick Swayze Christmas, one and all, David, Jeramie, Blue, and Ethan Tinsley bringbackmst3k 10 notes I’m thankful for mst3k. This year was my first Turkey day, and i love it. Thanks for doing this! 13 notes Tattooed & Thankful for MST3K bringbackmst3k: From: Crystalinne Pantano Subject: Turkey Day: Why I’m Tattooed & Thankful for MST3K Dear Joel and the gang! I’m writing this Turkey Day to say why I’m especially thankful for MST3K. Growing up MST3K days became time for just me and my dad. We would wake up early, pop a tape in the VCR to record the show, and eat way too much bacon. The commercials from the 90s are still as vivid today because of how often we would replay those tapes. As an adult I’m able to share my love of MST with my family and my husband. I’m proudly tattooed with the logo on my shoulder. It’s become a badge of honor that allows people to approach me to start quoting the show and talk about our favorite moments. Thanks for all the laughs! There’s a photo as evidence! Crystalinne Joel says: Crystalinne, Thanks for the nice words, and for sending the photo evidence of your tattoo.
