OFFICIAL Pillar 2 Testing Capacity - Daily Report For regional teams and stakeholders – 8 September Contents Background Latest Developments Channel capacity - overall totals Home Channel Availability Channel Statistics Channel capacity – Regional Test Sites Channel capacity – Local Test Sites Channel capacity – Mobile Test Units Background The National Testing Programme is experiencing continued exceptionally high demand due to a number of factors such as the return of schools and the demand for testing from international travellers, and this is expected to remain high for the next two weeks. In order to raise awareness of our performance in regional and local test sites, mobile test units and labs throughout this period, a daily report will be shared with regional teams. This report includes the latest developments and channel data. • Demand for testing is increasing and as such test sites in areas with higher prevalence will be prioritised and continue to provide higher volumes of testing; areas with lower prevalence will have reductions of testing capacity. • In every area where there is an outbreak, all mobile testing units have been kept open for bookings throughout the operating day and remain open to process all booked appointments. • If any sites including Mobile Testing Units are showing as fully booked in this report, bookings will temporarily close, but the units and sites will remain fully operational throughout the day to service the bookings. Slots for bookings will reopen throughout the day. • Booking slots are made available the evening before for morning appointments, and on the morning for afternoon appointments. There are times therefore during the day where test booking may not be available. We are continually seeking to release more booking slots, so people who are symptomatic, or have other confirmed reasons for needing a test s should come back later to the website or 119 service and re-attempt their booking. • Bookings will not be available at RTS and MTU sites where the channel capacity has been reached for that day (whilst outbreak areas are still held open for MTUs). People attending these sites without an appointment will be turned away, and asked to make an appointment • For home testing, in circumstances when there’s high demand we pause the booking portal for short periods to help smooth out demand. • Allocated testing capacity in drive through test sites in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales will continue to meet or exceed their average daily test numbers. Latest Developments – w/c 7 September • Our channel capacity total today (8 Sept) is at 97% (including regional and local test sites, and mobile test units). OFFICIAL • Labs are forecast to run with an end-of-day surplus until Monday next week. • To secure testing capacity for outbreak areas, test appointment capacity and bookings are being closely monitored against available lab capacity • RTS and LTS Capacity is planned on a daily basis, and is adjusted to maintain capacity at sites with highest prevalence / outbreak areas • Low prevalence and non-outbreak sites are closed to new bookings in England when MTU booking numbers reach a national threshold • MTUs in high prevalence / outbreak areas, and at protected sites in the Devolved Administrations, are kept open for bookings throughout the day • An issue with the booking portal resulting in some users being directed to tests sites a long distance from them has been resolved. Users will only be able to access sites up to 75 miles from their location. We continue to look at ways we can improve the testing programme. • There is no reduction in testing capacity. Capacity continues to grow and will soon grow much more as more lab capacity comes online. • However, there has been a concurrent increase in demand for symptomatic testing across the UK; while we are also increasing asymptomatic testing across social care in line with previous ministerial commitments. • We have expected pressure on the system for 2 further weeks and have done everything we can to ensure maximum usage of available capacity. The labs have been processing record volumes and we are working hard to bring on additional capacity. • For regional stakeholders, it is vital that we make good use of available resource and prioritise. It is worth stressing that we have protected the availability of testing in areas of highest risk, driven by Joint Biosecurity Centre (JBC) analysis. • Utilisation rates are being monitored throughout the day to ensure that we are optimising service in outbreak areas. Some parts of the UK will close prior to these locations, though we anticipate all sites being closed for bookings this afternoon, before appointments are opened for tomorrow.
