ike Beldon was born in Boston but was raised in San Antonio. After graduating from Alamo Heights High School he attended Rice University. Upon gradua- tion in 1960, he joined the family business, Beldon M Enterprises, where he spent his entire business ca- reer before entering semi-retirement in 2003. He has been very active in industry, civic and charitable endeavors over the years having served as President of the National Roofing Contractors association, Chairman of The Chamber of Commerce and Chairman of the Edwards Aquifer Authority.

Louise Beldon was born and raised in San Antonio, . She attended the University of Texas where she graduated with Honors in 1961. She has been involved in many civic and religious organizations. She was inducted into the San Antonio Women’s Hall of Fame in 2008, The San Antonio Business Hall of Fame in 2006, and was Avance Mother of the Year in 2002 to name just a few.

Louise’s involvement with the Jewish Federation has spanned her life- time. She was the Past Chair of the Endowment Foundation of the Jewish Federation of San Antonio, past member of the Jewish Feder- ation Board, Jewish Community Center Board and Jewish Day School Board. She also served as Chair of the Board of Governors of the Cancer Therapy and Research Center, Chair of the Nursing Advisory Council at University of Texas Health Science Center, Co-Chair of the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center Foundation and was a member of the Archdi- ocesan Policy and Procedure Review board for a Safe Environment.

Mike and Louise have been married for almost 50 years. They have four married children and thirteen grandchildren.

6 JEWISH FEDERATION OF SAN ANTONIO • JFSA.ORG TRIBUTE 2020 7 harles “Charlie” Cheever Jr. has been a family businessman almost his entire career, currently serving as Chairman Emeritus of Broadway Bank. Charlie was the driving force behind much of the growth and expansion Broadway Bank enjoyed during his time as bank president, a Cposition he assumed in 1961 at the age of 32 after joining the bank in 1957. He worked alongside his father, Colonel Charles Cheever, to create an environment of innovation, pioneering many new bank services, and guiding the bank through the hard-hitting recession of the late 1980s, when many banks and financial institutions had to close their doors.

Before joining Broadway Bank, Charlie graduated from West Point in 1949, served as an Air Force pilot instructor and later retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force Reserve. He also earned his law degree from the University of Texas Law School in 1957.

Throughout his life, Charlie has personally embraced the spirit of giving back to the community, which his parents instilled into the culture of Broadway Bank. He has served as Co-Chairman of the San Fernando Cathedral Restoration Project, as Chairman of the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas Capital Campaign, Chairman of the United Way, and as Trustee of Incarnate Word College and Southwest Research Institute. Charlie also has served as Chairman of the University of Texas Health Science Center’s advisory board for the Center for Medical Humanities and Ethics, as well as the KLRN Capital Campaign.

In addition, Charlie served as the Chairman of the Texas Bankers Association, Regional Director of the American Bankers Association, and as the Director of the San Antonio Branch of the Federal Reserve. He was the founding Co-Chairman of the San Antonio Education Partnership and also chaired many projects and organizations, such as the Greater San Antonio Chamber of Commerce, the San Antonio Economic Development Foundation, Project Quest and others – giving his time and expertise to a great many community organizations.

CHARLES EMMETT Charlie has six children with his late wife, Sally Cheever: Suzanne, Cece, Jean, Joan, Charlie III and Chris. Following the loss of Sally, his wife of 52 years, Charlie subsequently married Nancy and they began a new chapter CHEEVER in life together.

Leslie is the dedicated mother of two daughters. Leslie Bohl is a storyteller: impassioned by giving a voice to others, sharing their lessons learned by chronicling steps taken through triumphs and tragedies. Since 1975, Maxine Cohen has spearheaded Holocaust education in San Antonio and South Texas. A longtime leader in the San Antonio Jewish community, first as the director of the Community SHERIDEN Relations Council and later on as the Director of the Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio, she pioneered an educational DeCASTRO model that was one of the earliest in the United States to teach about the Shoah.
