Celebrating Years W / S 2019 1 CELEBRATING YEARS W / S 2019 MORE THAN AN ARTS CENTRE OUR FUNDERS A word from the Arts Council The Duncairn champions an innovative model of performance, access and learning through the arts, and this has met with great success in widening the audience for arts and culture in north Belfast. People from the local communities have been inspired to come together in this shared space to enjoy the full range of creative and social experiences, and visitors are being drawn to the area from all parts of the city by an outstanding programme of music that you would be hard pressed to match elsewhere. The Arts Council, as the Duncairn’s principal funder through our National Lottery funds, is proud to have been able to support the growth of this remarkable arts hub over the last five years, and we all hope to see ‘more of the same, please’ in the years to come. As David Keenan’s star continues to ascend, we’re catching him live again at The Duncairn. He’s the young Irish songwriter who uses his lyrics to paint pictures with words on canvases of silence, curating a body of work steeped in the poetic tradition of old but delivered in such a way that is entirely his own. His recent vinyl EP, Evidence Of Living, quickly sold out, he boasts a number of videos by Myles O’Reilly, and his live shows are described as visceral, spiritual and communal events. IYMAs OFFICIAL PROGRAMME Irish Youth Music Awards NATIONAL DAY AVIVA STADIUM Sat April 16 2016 IYMAs National Day Hello and welcome to the ninth Irish Youth Music Awards National Day. It’s been a brilliant year with lots of regional events throughout the coun- try and lots of new clubs and projects getting involved in the IYMAs programme. It’s been a pleasure to travel up and down the country and see the brilliant talent and communi- ties of young people working together to create their own music scenes within their youth clubs and projects. Today is about them and showcasing what they do and most importantly for those involved to have fun meet new friends and create new connec- tions with other young people doing the same things in their communities. We see the IYMAs as a stepping stone for those involved to learn new skills and to further their journey into em- ployment and education opportunities within the creative and music industry that exists within Ireland and overseas. Thank you so much for coming and special thanks to all our sponsors, supporters, youth leaders, clubs, projects and most importantly all the young people involved, have a great day. Barry Lennon, Director Irish Youth Music Awards Youth Work Ireland would like to welcome you all to ninth National Day for the IYMAs which marks the launch of Youth Work Ireland Week 2016. Our organisation’s theme for this year is Mental Well Being. As this is our flagship programme we want to explore supporting young people, look at employment opportunities within the creative industries while working together as a team.
