ichelson Hall houses the new state- of-the-art Center for Convergent M Bioscience at USC and stands in the southwest quadrant of the University Park Campus, home to the science and engineering buildings, and houses 20 to 30 principal investigators with laboratories employing hundreds of researchers and students. The four-story, 190,000 square foot research building is the future catalyst for discoveries WHO’S BUILDING in biological science, SPOTLIGHT imaging, engineering, nanofabrication and collaborative cross-disciplinary studies. The building houses 30 labs, Class 100 and 1,000 Nanotechnology cleanrooms, imaging suites, and a large conference and classroom center on the first floor. Michelson Hall is a world-class center of the accelerating convergence between the biosciences and engineering, conducting cutting-edge bioscience and bio-engineering research that will lead to breakthrough innovations for advancing human health. The building organization is designed to facilitate efficient and highly flexible research spaces as well as create areas to foster collaboration and convergence across scientific disciplines. The building is organized with two research volumes to the north and south, and is unified with central “convergence” volume containing collaboration spaces and marking the building’s two entrances on the east and west facades.

oMad Los Angeles is now a luxury hotel Downtown, located in the historic PROJECT N Giannini Place, former home of the Bank of Italy (which later became Bank HIGHLIGHTS of America), at Olive and 7th streets. Completed in 1922, Giannini Place was ■ 165,190 square foot building designed by the architectural firm Morgan, ■ 241 beautiful hotel rooms Walls and Clements. ■ Restored facade includes The grand 12-story decorative brick and terra cotta WHO’S BUILDING building had stood empty and blighted for details SPOTLIGHT decades. ■ Event space, bar and swimming The re-imagining pool occupy the roof of the 165,190 square foot building into the 241-room NoMad Hotel Los Angeles transforms the building’s original bank lobby with its towering columns, ornate ceiling and marble floors into the primary bar/restaurant and central gathering space of the hotel. The restored facade includes decorative brick and terra cotta details and massive bronze entry doors that have been a longtime fixture on bustling 7th St. New glass storefronts reflect the original design intent with steel sashes and decorative grilles. An event space, bar and swimming pool occupy the roof. Guest rooms located in former office space floors bring back the building’s historic character, much of which above the ground floor had been lost over time.
