Panther Cub Stands Up DEVON Meadows has embarked on a rebuilding policy centred on home- grown juniors and it has already yielded some success with the announcement of 18 year-old Jack Hazendonk as the second nomination for the 2013 Nepean League Young Gun award. The hard-working playmaker has impressed all at Glover Reserve in his first full season of senior football after a top-notch junior career, early on with Langwarrin Junior Football Club, and then with the Panthers Junior arm at under 15 and under 16 level, playing finals both years. Jack’s ability has never been in doubt, winning the club best and fairest award in the under 15s and the league award the following season. He was also rewarded with interleague selection in both junior seasons with the Panthers before joining the Devon Meadows senior club as an under 18 last year. Nepean League Young The acknowledgement of his class continued in 2012 with selection in the Gun nominee MPNFL under 18 representative side, runner up awards in both club and league Jack Hazendonk is a best and fairests and most importantly his senior debut with the Panthers. young Panther going places this season. Jack says he wants to continue to learn and play good football and hopefully win a premiership, while Devon Meadows senior coach Brent Clinnick endorsed his young star’s nomination. “Determination and great attitude is how I would describe Jack,” he said. “A player who can win his own ball at the contest and can also really hurt on the outside with his work rate and foot skills. After playing four games of senior footy last year, his attitude this year has been excellent. He looks very comfortable at senior level.” Devon Meadows under 18s coach John Percy agreed. “Having coached Jack at junior level and senior level, I have always seen him as a senior footballer and leader. Jack shows real spirit, loyalty and maturity beyond his years.”

Mornington Peninsula Junior Football League - Weekly News Update

INTERLEAGUE First of all a special thank you to our Interleague coaches for 2013, Marcus Gordan (U14), Rob Halsall (U15) & John Sloaan (U16). Thank you to the players, the parents & all the support staff for all making the Interleague campaign possible. A big thank you to Andrew Souter (MPJFL JDO), a fantastic job with such short notice. Andrew has put in an enormous amount of time & energy into this Interleague tournament and certainly would not have run as smooth as it did without him. Player development is Andrew’s number one priority, he will give our guys (All MPJFL Players) the best possible chance for development & opportunities now & in the future, we are very lucky to have him in our team! #cheerssouts Well done to all our Interleague players, you all represented us to the highest standard! One would think that we were a little unlucky on some of the results over the long weekend... Keep your heads up, you never gave up and did the MPJFL proud! FROM AROUND THE GROUNDS - Round 8 Congratulations to Mt Martha! The C grade girls came out firing and were leading at the first break but to Sommies credit they got on top of us in the second quarter & had too much fire power for us despite an awesome effort and so many turnovers by the circle defenders. Ian (FIZZ) JaCKSOn - Wedderburn Umpire

Ian ‘Fizz’ Jackson played the game hard but tempered his fiery approach when he turned to umpiring. In 1974 he started a 28 year umpiring stint that saw him officiate in 560 games and 20 grand finals. Ian says proudly that he never reported a player in his umpiring career “I’d rather give a 50 metre penalty or talk to them than report them”. WorkSafe is proud to sponsor country football. For the players, the families, friends, even the umpires! That’s why WorkSafe wants to remind everyone in country Victoria how important it is to have a safe workplace. That way all of us can turn up to the footy on the weekend to see our country football legends.
