IMPRESSIVE START TO HIS MLB CAREER: Ray turned in two excellent starts to begin his major league career. In each of his first two starts, he worked at least five innings and allowed one earned run-or-less. He became just the fourth Tigers hurler to start his big league career with back-to-back starts of five-or-more innings and one earned run or less allowed. The most recent Tigers pitcher to start his career in this fashion was Jeff Weaver in 1999.

WINNING HIS ML DEBUT: Ray earned the win in his major league debut on May 6 against Houston. He became the 22nd Tigers pitcher to win his major league debut, and the first since Jose Alvarez did so on June 9, 2013 vs. Cleveland. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Ray, who won’t turn 23 until October 1, is the first Tigers pitcher to start and win his MLB debut at age 22 or younger since Jeff Weaver in 1999.
