Senate Trial Framework: The Resolution introduced by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) and passed along party lines allocates 24 hours, spread over three session days, to each of the House Impeachment Managers and to President Trump’s legal team. After these arguments, Senators will be given 16 hours, spread over two session days, to question each side. At the conclusion of the question period, the Senate will have 4 hours of debate on whether to subpoena witnesses and include the new evidence procured by House Democrats after the impeachment vote into the evidentiary record. Once that question has been decided, and any witnesses or new evidence have been produced, the Senate will vote on the guilt and removal.

Trial Phases 1. Opening Arguments - the trial will begin with opening arguments by the House Impeachment Managers and President Trump’s Legal Team followed by a period of questioning from Senators. 2. Subpoena Additional Witnesses & Evidence - following opening arguments, the Senate will debate and vote on whether or not to hear from additional witnesses and receive evidence. 3. Final Vote - Senators will vote on whether to acquit or convict President Trump on the two House-passed Articles of Impeachment.
