The American Athletic Conference Men’s Soccer Championship continues in the second year of a new format. The 2017 Championship include no quarterfinal rounds and the semifinals/ championship game hosted on the campus of the No. 1 seed.

The tournament begins Friday, Nov. 10 with a pair of semifinal games. The championship final is set for Sunday, Nov. 12. Tulsa won the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship after tying USF 1-1 and defeating UConn 4-3 on penalty kicks.

The winner of the the American Athletic Conference Championship receives the league’s automatic bid to the 48-team NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship.

The 2017 NCAA Championship marks the 59th anniversary of the tournament. First, second and third round games, as well as the quarterfinals, are held on the campuses of participating institutions in a single-elimination format.

The College Cup, which includes the national semifinals and championship, will be held at Talen Energy Stadium in Philadelphia, on Dec. 9 and 11.

• At starting goalkeeper, redshirt senior Alex Cagle tallied 52 saves last season. He was third in The American in saves per game (3.29) in conference play a year ago and tied for second in conference shuouts.

• Temple men’s soccer, along with Temple’s women’s soccer, field hockey, lacrosse, and track and field programs, welcomed a brand new sports complex last season.

• The Golden Hurricane returns 15 letterwinners, including seven starters, from last year’s team, which tallied a 10-5-5 overall record, won the American Athletic Conference tournament title for the third-straight season and advanced to the NCAA Championship.

• Tulsa made its third-straight NCAA appearance, 11th overall and eighth in the last 10 years in 2016.

• Juan Sanchez and Zack Stavrou were named to the 2017 American Athletic Conference Preseason All-Conference Team. Sanchez is a two-year letterwinner and has tallied 27 career points. Stavrou started all 20 games last year and was named to the All-American Athletic Conference Second Team.
