presents The 10th HABITAT FILM FESTIVAL 2015 May 8 - 17 2015 Ten years ago, we began the Habitat Film Festival, to turn the spotlight on the wealth of Pan Indian Cinema, which in addition to being largely overshadowed by Bollywood, had been relegated to an 'also showing 'status at Film Festivals, tripping over themselves to add the 'International' 'Asian' 'European' tag as a feather in their caps. In the last ten years the face of Indian cinema has seen the most dramatic turnaround. A brave new breed of young directors, fresh ideas, skilled professionals re-invented the face of Indian cinema adding their weight to the work of existing stalwarts who had stuck to their art. Today, the presence, appreciation, awards and accolades for Indian films in the international arena is increasingly becoming the norm rather than a novelty. Bollywood, though as popular (if not more than earlier !) is no longer the sole face of Indian cinema. Celebrating ten years of The Habitat Film Festival, we bring you gems from the last year that showcase the variety and passion of our contemporary film makers. In our tribute segment, we honour the inimitable and unmatchable tower of talent Kamaal Hasan with a retrospective of some of his hand picked films. Screenings will be followed by interactions with directors/producers giving cinema lovers an opportunity of a focused interaction and Q & A. FESTIVAL AT A GLANCE MAY 8 Friday 6:00pm Margarita With A Straw (Hindi/English/2015/100mins) Dir.Shonali Bose 9:00pm Teen Kahon (Three Obsessions) (Bengali/2014/124mins)

To work for peace and reconciliation, fighting against cultural fascism in the society through cultural medium and trying to create the better society which will be Rational, Modern, Equal and Just. Changed focus-Changed Strategy-Changed Activities: Since the socio-cultural scenario has changed, issues have also changed in present society of Gujarat as well as the country also; our organization also needs to change the approach, strategy and the ‘language’ to address the society. It is a need of an hour to spread ideology of Peace and co-existence, Secularism and Rationality, Scientific approach towards life and Development with Social Justice. Gujarat carnage 2002 will complete 10 years in next few days. Some of the civil society organizations have decided to organize certain programs during next four months to remind the people of Gujarat that what we have done before 10 years is never pardonable. Still thousands of victims are weeping and waiting for justice. Still peace is a far away lighthouse, because there is no voice of remorse from our civil society or politicians. It was and still it is a shame for us. A Film-Festival on Communal Conflict and Idea of Social Justice: ‘FILMOGRAPH: ‘47-‘84-‘92-‘02’ is one of the programs organized by Darshan for above reasons and purposes. This film festival against communalism was organized from 3 to 6 December at Golden Jubilee Hall, St Xavier’s Loyola School, Memnagar, Ahmedabad. UNIVERSIDAD DE MURCIA Departamento de Filología Inglesa Shakespeare, Bollywood and Beyond Shakespeare Transnacional: Su presencia en Bollywood y en la Diáspora Dª. Rosa María García Periago OMNP= To Manolo ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS My primary thanks are for my supervisor Dra. Dña. Clara Calvo López for her support, encouragement, constructive comments and useful feedback for this dissertation. I also have to thank her for always believing in me and in my potential, since she first met me when I was a 2 nd year undergraduate student. She has always been very open-minded to all my ideas and suggestions, and it has been very rewarding to work under her supervision. I also have to thank my tutors during my research stays at Queen’s University Belfast, SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies) and at King’s College (London), since this project would not have been the same without them. Prof. Mark Thornton Burnett (Queen’s University Belfast) provided me with the necessary background and style to write the dissertation. His careful reading along the way, constructive comments and illuminating conversations were crucial in the early stages of this dissertation. Prof. Rachel Dwyer (SOAS) taught me a considerable part of what I know of Bollywood cinema. I thank her for her enthusiasm, brilliance, interesting comments, but, above all, for letting me attend her Bollywood cinema classes and for encouraging me to learn Hindi language. Last, but not least, I owe thanks to Dr. Sonia Massai for her availability, her kindness and her help. This dissertation would not have been possible without the generous support on FPU scholarship granted by the Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia.

  • Early Muslim Travel Accounts of Britain
Notes Introduction 1. For more on Naser-ed-Din, see Khair et al. (2006: 245–60). I am grateful to Tabish Khair for alerting me to the Shah’s travelogue. 2. Surprisingly, Cohen’s later essay does not reference Said’s concept of travel- ling theory. 3. It is also difficult to contain these writers within a particular temporal period, since most of their key texts are set in the recent past rather than in the present. This issue will be tackled at length in a chapter on the turn to historical fiction in my next book, Muslim Representations of Britain, 1988–Present. 4. Among the 21 writers, only Tayeb Salih’s classic novel Season of Migration to the North (1966) has achieved the level of success necessary to activate the so- called massive translation machine. It was published as a Penguin Modern Classics edition in 2003 and according to Jamal Mahjoub has been translated into over 30 languages (2009: n. pag.). 5. All of the pre-twentieth century texts in Chapter 1, and Maimoona Sultan and the Aga Khan’s texts from Chapter 2, are now available to online readers, thanks to Project Gutenberg, Archive.org, and Openlibrary.org. 6. In the British context, ‘Asian’ denotes South Asian, unlike in the USA, where the word usually means East Asian. 7. It is advisable to imagine scare quotes around ‘England-returned’ throughout this work. 8. See James Procter’s idea of ‘devolved literature’ (2003: 3), Corinne Fowler and Lynne Pearce’s expansion of the term in Postcolonial Manchester (2013: 1, 5–6), and the University of Edinburgh’s seminar series Representing Muslims in Scotland and the North-East (Adam and Cherry, 2015: n.
