2019 BOWIE BAYSOX GAME NOTES Tuesday, May 7, 2019 - 6:00 p.m. PNG Field -- Altoona, PA Bowie Baysox (8-23) at Altoona Curve (13-13) LHP Zac Lowther (2-2, 2.66 ERA) vs. RHP Pedro Vasquez (2-0, 2.67 ERA) Game #32 // Road Game #18 2019 SEASON In Case You Missed It: The Bowie offense had its best night of the season, putting up 2019 highs in runs, hits and Overall Record 8-23 home runs in a 10-5 win in the series opener in Altoona. Every Baysox starter had at least one hit in the win, and Home Record 3-11 a season-high five players had multi-hit efforts. Ademar Rifaela led the way with the first multi-home run game Road Record 5-12 for the team this year. Carlos Perez had a three-run blast of his own, and drove in four runs, a season-high for the Versus Eastern Division 0-0 club. Rylan Bannon continued his hot hitting with two singles and an RBI, extending his hit-streak to six games. Versus Western Division 8-23 Mason McCoy made his Baysox debut, and went 2-5 with an RBI, a run and a walk. Ryan McKenna was the other Current Streak W1 Bowie starter with two hits. On the mound, Hunter Harvey pitched six scoreless innings, allowing just two hits Last Homestand 2-5 and striking out five. It was Harvey's first start of at least six innings and no runs allowed since May 12, 2014 as a Current Road Trip 2-3 member of the Delmarva Shorebirds. Last 5 Games 2-3 Zac Attack: LHP Zac Lowther will start today for the Baysox. Lowther enters this game with a record of 2-2 and a Last 10 Games 4-6 2.66 ERA. The left-hander has been dominant on the road in 2019. In three starts away from Bowie, Lowther is 2-1 When Scoring 4+ Runs 7-7 with a 0.59 ERA in 15.1 innings. Lowther had a tremendous start last time out in Erie, tossing 5.1 scoreless innings, When Scoring 3- Runs 1-16 allowing just one hit and striking out six. That was Lowther's second scoreless start of the year and third start in After Day Off 1-6 which he went at least five innings. Lowther, a CBB Second Round pick of the Orioles in the 2017 MLB Draft, was the In Shutouts 1-7 Co-Minor League Pitcher of the Year in the Baltimore organization in 2018. In 1-Run Games 2-5 In 2-Run Games 1-5 In the Other Corner: RHP Pedro Vasquez is making his seventh appearance and sixth start of the year for Altoona. vs. Left-Handed Starters 4-5 After pitching in relief in the second game of the season, Vasquez has started the last five times he has pitched, vs. Right-Handed Starters 4-17 and has gone at least five innings in each outing. In his last start, the 23-year-old pitched five innings in Richmond Day Games 3-9 and allowed just one run on four hits. Vasquez has allowed two runs or fewer in all but one of his appearances this Night Games 5-14 season. Last year, the Dominican native split the year between Altoona and High-A Bradenton. Bannon leads the In Doubleheaders 0-4 team in home runs (4), RBI (15), batting average (.313) and runs scored (15). Bannon also has the only two four-hit When Scoring First 6-6 games for the team this season and has eight multi-hit games. Opponents Score First 2-17 Outhit Opponent 6-4 No Trouble with the Curve: OF Ademar Rifaela had his best game of the season in last night's win in Altoona, going 3-5 with two home runs and three RBI. On the final day of the 2018 regular season, the Baysox hosted Outhit by Opponent 2-18 Altoona, and Rifaela went 4-5 with two home runs and five RBI. Thus, over his last two games against the Curve, Equal Hits 0-1 Rifaela is 7-10 (.700) with four home runs and eight RBI. Hit a Home Run 7-6 No Home Runs 1-17 Top Tier Talent: The Bowie Baysox roster is filled with some of the top prospects in the Orioles' farm system. No Errors Committed 5-7 According to MLB.com, seven of the top 30 prospects in the organization will begin the season in Bowie. Outfielder Baysox vs. Altoona Yusniel Diaz headlines the roster, coming into the year as Baltimore's number one prospect. Outielder Ryan McKenna (#7) and Left-Handed Pitcher Zac Lowther (#8) also rank in the Orioles' top ten. Pitchers Hunter Harvey 2019 Record: 1-0 (#12), Dillon Tate (#18), Zach Pop (#20) and Infielder Rylan Bannon (#23) round out the top prospects that start the 2019 campaign with the Baysox. 5/6 @ Altoona W, 10-5 5/7 @ Altoona The Buck Starts Here: 2019 marks Buck Britton's first season as manager of the Bowie Baysox. Britton replaces 5/8 @ Altoona Gary Kendall, who was the head man in Bowie from 2011-2018. Britton picked up his first victory as a AA manager 7/18 v. Altoona on April 7 against the Harrisburg Senators. Last season, Britton managed the Delmarva Shorebirds, leading the 7/19 v. Altoona club to a 68-66 record. Prior to getting into coaching, Britton played nine seasons in Minor League Baseball, and 7/20 v. Altoona spent parts of 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014 with the Baysox. Buck is the brother of former Baysox and Orioles' 7/21 v.
