South Wales Alliance League 2018-2019 SOUTH WALES ALLIANCE LEAGUE 2018-2019 SEASON’S REVIEW The Premier Division continued to be as strong as ever with a number of clubs vying for the top spot over the course of the season. Eventually it was Ynyshir Albions who finished strongest eventually running out champions eight points clear of second place Pencoed Athletic to secure their third promotion in four seasons. At the bottom Cwm Welfare had a very challenging season and were firmly rooted to the foot of the table at the end of the campaign. With two clubs being relegated from the Welsh League at the end of the season it looked as if four clubs would be relegated from the Premier Division. However, the resignation of Pontlottyn AFC and the decision of Brecon Corries to transfer to Mid Wales football eventually meant that only Ton & Gelli BC would be joining Cwm in the First Division next season. The First Division was won at a canter by Porthcawl Town Athletic. Runners-up Blaenrhondda secured their second successive Alliance League promotion while the third promotion spot was claimed by FC Cwmaman who edged out Cornelly United on goal difference. At the other end of the table Llangynwyd Rangers BGC found themselves relegated for the second successive season. In the Second Division, champions Llanrumney United led the table for much of season. A late surge of form saw Aberfan SDC claim second spot whilst the final promotion place was claimed by Cogan Coronation. At the bottom, the League bid farewell to AFC Bargoed and Carnetown FC. They were due to be joined by AFC Wattstown. However, the late resignation of Tynte Rovers granted them a late reprieve. The W. John Owen Cup Final was won by Cardiff Draconians, who defeated Porthcawl Town Athletic, whilst the South Wales Senior Cup was won by Llanrumney United, who defeated Quar Park Rangers in the final. CYNON VALLEY HISTORY SOCIETY CYMDEITHAS HANES CWM CYNON PRESIDENT: THE LORD ABERDARE VICE PRESIDENTS MRS TYDFIL THOMAS O.B.E., J.P., M.A., ELFED BOWEN B.Sc., KEN COLLINS B.A. & HYWEL VAUGHAN M.A. www.cvhs.org.uk HHAANNEESS NEWSLETTER OF THE CYNON VALLEY HISTORY SOCIETY CYLCHLYTHYR CYMDEITHAS HANES CWM CYNON ISSUE NUMBER 67 SUMMER 2014 MEA CULPA The editor occasionally receives letters from readers, and these are always welcome as they tend to raise interesting points, act as a catalyst and stimulate debate, or result in the discovery of forgotten or new facts. A recent item of correspondence, received from an Associate Member living in Somerset, mildly, but with humour, rebukes the compiler of this Newsletter for giving undue emphasis to events and personalities connected with the Aberdare area. 24th April 2014 “Dear Mr. Evans, I have been an associate member – a ‘drone’, really for several years and the receipt of Hanes really does lift the spirit so I hope you will not find my observations impertinent, BUT I find that Aberdare and its environs (with the occasional foray to Mountain Ash), is given undue prominence and whilst I can sense the reason for this it does leave virtually two-thirds of the valley below the salt on the editorial table. Anyway, to temper this mild criticism I enclose a poem I’ve written about the valley in the hope that it might cause some latent poets in the Society to put pen to paper, (poetry or prose), about what the valley means to them. Perhaps a slice of Hanes could be devoted to these reflections — present and from the past? I hope that the poem and the suggestions prove that I am not completely idle.

  • CANDIDATE SITE REGISTER Index of Sites
Foreword The Rhondda Cynon Taf Local Development Plan (LDP) provides for a new way of planning for the future of the County Borough. This follows major changes to the planning system which were introduced by the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004. It sees the replacement of the old system of structure and local plans which, until the LDP is adopted, forms the Development Plan for the County Borough. As the Plan will identify land for new development during the CANDIDATE SITE period 2006 – 2021, it will be important that sites allocated for housing, employment, and other uses are capable of coming forward within this timescale and that they can contribute fully REGISTER to sustainability objectives whilst meeting overall growth requirements. Previous undeveloped local plan allocations, along with sites Index of Sites put forward by development interests (Candidate Sites) need to be considered carefully. A Methodology for consistently and objectively assessing these sites was subject to consultation in the summer of 2006. This Candidate Site Register brings together the approved methodology together with a full list of strategic and non- strategic sites to be considered, with maps showing their location and extent. Through the publication and availability of this information further transparency will be added to the process. Gaps in the number sequence for the Candidate Sites result from the omission of small sites of 0.3 hectare or less. These will be considered as part of the review of settlement boundaries. Good afternoon everybody and welcome to today's fixture with Taffs Well to whose players, officials and supporters we extend warm greetings .Our visitors ended runners- up last season and by the looks of things are geared up to go one better this time round. A point behind current leaders Barry Town but with two games in hand they must be regarded as early favourites for the championship though there is a long, long way to go. Without doubt it looks the most open for years with no team even close to a decisive breakaway and early leaders Cambrian and AFC Porth both stuttering in recent games.

CYNON VALLEY HISTORY SOCIETY CYMDEITHAS HANES CWM CYNON PRESIDENT: THE LORD ABERDARE VICE PRESIDENTS MRS TYDFIL THOMAS O.B.E., J.P., M.A., ELFED BOWEN B.Sc. www.cvhs.org.uk HANES NEWSLETTER OF THE CYNON VALLEY HISTORY SOCIETY CYLCHLYTHYR CYMDEITHAS HANES CWM CYNON ISSUE NUMBER 88 AUTUMN 2019 During this Indian summer, let’s hope it lasts, it is good to reflect on recent anniversaries as well as past events. We look at 150th Anniversary of the Opening of Aberdare Park, the 160th Anniversary of the establishment of the Cwmbach Co- operative Society, a local survivor of the Spanish Civil War, part 2 of the memories of Runge’s shop, and, Society news. Enjoy reading about them! 150th Anniversary of the Opening of Aberdare Park by Colin Rees In the mid-nineteenth century Aberdare was a heavily industrialised town, with tramroads and railways criss-crossing the valley floor, waste tips, and furnaces with their chimney stacks contributing to a forbidding and inhospitable atmosphere in the valley. With much of nearby land in private hands, the working man and his family had little recreational space that was easily accessible. Responding to these circumstances the Local Board of Health, under its chairman Rees Hopkin Rhys, (Blind Rhys), acquired almost 50 acres of Hirwaun Common for creating Wales’ first public park. To do so necessitated negotiating a loan of £5000, (about £620,000 today with adjustment for inflation), repayable over 30 years. The scheme had its detractors, particularly from ratepayers, and a public enquiry was necessary before the loan could be sanctioned.

  • Bibliography of the History of the Cynon Valley
There has long been a need for a list of books, papers and articles, in Welsh and English, relating to the history of the Cynon Valley particularly as the body of works on this subject and an interest in our past has grown considerably during the past decade. The project was started in 1993 but proved too huge a project to complete. Much of the work was done by Geoffrey Evans of the Cynon Valley History Society and my former library colleague Mrs Lynne Bryn Jones. In 2012 it was decided to complete it and with modern technology it has made the project easier. I have updated the entries since 1993. The present list has therefore been produced jointly by the Cynon Valley History Society and Rhondda Cynon Tâf Libraries and it is hoped that it will assist schoolteachers, their pupils, research students and all those interested in the rich history of this locality in locating relevant material on a particular subject. In this internet age it is often thought that everything can be found if you “Google” it. This is not true especially of material published before 1990. It is hoped this bibliography will fill this huge gap. The list includes not only books and articles relating solely to the Cynon Valley but also other texts of more general information that contain important references to the Cynon Valley. The bibliography also contains the titles of dissertations relating to the history of the area submitted for degrees and higher degrees to the constituent colleges of the University of Wales and their successor universities.
