In January 2009, the Local Government Minister, Dr Brian Gibbons asked this Commission to review the electoral arrangements in each principal local authority in Wales. Dr Gibbons said: “Conducting regular reviews of the electoral arrangements in each Council in Wales is part of the Commission’s remit. The aim is to try and restore a fairly even spread of councillors across the local population. It is not about local government reorganisation. Since the last reviews were conducted new communities have been created in some areas and there have been shifts in population in others. This means that in some areas there is now an imbalance in the number of electors that councillors represent.

From Forest of Dean Humour By Harry Beddington. Page 1. EDITORIAL November saw a well attended AGM admirably chaired by Ian Standing, this year there were fire-works, but only of the pretty kind. A large smelly bonfire was lit at the rear of the Butchers Arms and an interesting display of rockets, sparklers, aeroplanes and some very impressive penny bangers ( or were they tup-penny ones ) . The new committee was installed with no pomp little ceremony and no barracking from the rear. Cave rescue had its annual airing, it’s a great pity that cavers in general take such poor interest in this vital subject. GCRG has asked the member clubs to appoint their own safety officer, this might help arouse more interest, but the real answer is for people to become more cave rescue conscious, There is of course those brave lads one hears in the public bar who don’t need a rescue service, if ever I have an accident don’t get me out, just let me die it will be my own fault, but you can bet your bottom dollar that if one of these proud heroes down a dark muddy hole nursing a broken leg they would be crying for their mums and cave rescue ( here endeth the lesson ).

  • 2020 Flood Survey Report
1 "WE HAVE BEEN FORGOTTEN ABOUT." 2020 FLOOD SURVEY REPORT Commissioned by Leanne Wood MS and Rhondda Cynon Taf Plaid Cymru Councillors regarding flooding in Rhondda Cynon Taf in 2020 Written by C. AMOSS. 2 3 Contents 04 Statement by Leanne Wood MS 05 Introduction 06 Executive Summary 08 Pontypridd Constituency Flooding 16 Rhondda Constituency Flooding 30 Cynon Valley Constituency Flooding 34 Impact and After Effects : Conclusion 37 Recommendations 38 Appendix 4 Statement by Leanne Wood MS In February many people’s lives were turned upside down when Storm Dennis resulted in water entering their homes and businesses. Some people had been flooded before and some were flooded after that day in February, but more havoc was wreaked during that one weather event than had ever been seen in our communities. Scientists have been warning for years that the impacts of the climate crisis will be felt by more people as time goes on. As well as working to combat the causes of the climate crisis, governments – both local and national – have a duty to keep people safe and do whatever is possible to prevent people from being flooded. They should also provide support and do everything in their power to protect people and property in the future. This report analyses the survey responses of those who were flooded in Rhondda Cynon Taf and makes recommendations for action. It also shows the human cost of these floods and the toll it takes on the physical and mental health of many affected – something that has been noticeably absent from the documents produced by the authorities to date.

  • ABERCYNON OR CARNETOWN? the Residents of Abercynon Are of One Accord Against the Proposals of the Post Master General to Substitute the Name Carnetown for Abercynon
CYNON VALLEY HISTORY SOCIETY CYMDEITHAS HANES CWM CYNON PRESIDENT: THE LORD ABERDARE VICE PRESIDENTS MRS TYDFIL THOMAS O.B.E., J.P., M.A., ELFED BOWEN B.Sc., KEN COLLINS B.A. & HYWEL VAUGHAN M.A. www.cvhs.org.uk HHAANNEESS NEWSLETTER OF THE CYNON VALLEY HISTORY SOCIETY CYLCHLYTHYR CYMDEITHAS HANES CWM CYNON ISSUE NUMBER 67 SUMMER 2014 MEA CULPA The editor occasionally receives letters from readers, and these are always welcome as they tend to raise interesting points, act as a catalyst and stimulate debate, or result in the discovery of forgotten or new facts. A recent item of correspondence, received from an Associate Member living in Somerset, mildly, but with humour, rebukes the compiler of this Newsletter for giving undue emphasis to events and personalities connected with the Aberdare area. 24th April 2014 “Dear Mr. Evans, I have been an associate member – a ‘drone’, really for several years and the receipt of Hanes really does lift the spirit so I hope you will not find my observations impertinent, BUT I find that Aberdare and its environs (with the occasional foray to Mountain Ash), is given undue prominence and whilst I can sense the reason for this it does leave virtually two-thirds of the valley below the salt on the editorial table. Anyway, to temper this mild criticism I enclose a poem I’ve written about the valley in the hope that it might cause some latent poets in the Society to put pen to paper, (poetry or prose), about what the valley means to them. Perhaps a slice of Hanes could be devoted to these reflections — present and from the past? I hope that the poem and the suggestions prove that I am not completely idle.
