C M Y Yorktown Trolley marks K 20th anniversary The Yorktown Trolley, one of the most popular (and free) ways to see Historic Yorktown, celebrated a significant mile- stone on Monday when it marked its 20th anniversary. The complimentary amenity offered to visitors has seen ridership numbers increase since its first trip through the historic area in 1999 from 13,000 annual passengers to an estimated 95,000 riders per year, according to a release from York County. The return to service this season was delayed this season due to COVID-19 and passengers can expect extra safety precautions this time around, including a limited capacity to enable visitors to properly spread out. Both drivers and riders are all asked to wear face masks unless medical con- ditions prevent them from doing so. There is hand sanitizer available upon boarding and the seats and hold bars will be cleaned frequently. While the transportation service is bookended by the two main historical attractions of the Yorktown Battlefield Visitor Center (reopening soon), and the American Revolution Mu- seum at Yorktown (scheduled to reopen June 24)—there are several stops in between including the Victory Monument, Historic Main Street, Riverwalk Landing, Yorktown Beach, Watermen’s Museum, and the Courts and Offices Complex. Each loop takes approximately 20 to 25 minutes. The free trolley runs from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily through Sept. 7. Hours change from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 8 through Nov. 15. The holiday schedule (Nov. 20-Dec. 27, Fridays, Sat- urdays and Sundays only) is also 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
