In this Part of the Journal, a reference to a section is to a section of the Patents Act, 1992 unless otherwise stated. 3976 (No. 2387) Patents Office Journal (12/06/2019 ) Official Notice - Patents Register of Patent Agent Rules, 1992 October 2019 Examination Arrangements Subject to there being a demand therefor by a sufficient number of eligible candidates, the Patent Agents Board proposes to arrange with the UK Patent Examination Board (PEB) for the holding of some or all of the following written examinations in October, 2019 for the purpose of Rules 7 and 8 of the above mentioned rules. The PEB has been authorised by the UK Intellectual Property Regulation Board (IPReg) to conduct the Final Diploma examinations from 2014. Therefore, the 2019 examinations will be organised by the PEB and will be in the same format and for the same subjects as previously set by the JEB. The examinations will consist of the following Final Diploma examinations of the PEB. Tuesday 15 October, 2019 Paper FD4 (P6) 10.00a.m. – 3.00 p.m. Infringement and Validity Wednesday 16 October, 2019 Paper FD3 (P4) 10.00a.m. – 1.00p.m. Amendment of Specifications Thursday 17 October, 2019 Paper FD2 (P3) 10.00a.m. – 2.00p.m. Drafting of Patent Specifications The full timetable can be found here: http://www.cipa.org.uk/patent-examination- board/support/examination-information/ Candidates wishing to be examined in these papers should register with the PEB using the form which can be found here: http://www.cipa.org.uk/patent-examination- board/registration/. You will then receive an invoice to pay the appropriate fee directly to the PEB. Candidates should not pay any fee to the Irish Patents Office. The current fees can be found here: http://www.cipa.org.uk/patent-examination-board/support/examination- information/ Irish candidates are advised that in order to proceed with the PEB registration form they should answer “yes” to Questions 2 and 4. This will then allow the candidate to access entry to the finals examinations listed in question 6. The PEB have indicated that they will be able to identify an Irish candidate by virtue of that candidate selecting the ‘Ireland’ venue and that Irish candidates are therefore not subject to the same progression rules as UK candidates.
