Have you ever heard of Jedward? Once you have seen this striking duo, you will never forget them. ‘Jedward’ stands for the names of two 5 famous Irish singers who are twin brothers. John and Edward Grimes were born in Dublin on 16th October 1991. They went to school in Rathangan and 10 Dublin. When they were students, they took part in school talent shows. Since they were kids, they have always wanted to become famous. So John and Edward started their duo in 2008.
The twin brothers became really famous when they took part in the TV talent 15 show The X Factor in 2009. At that time they were 17 years old. John and Edward didn’t win the competition – they finished in sixth place – but soon lots of people knew Jedward because of their crazy hair style and very special, colourful clothes. 20 Their first single ‘Under Pressure (Ice Ice Baby)’ and their first music album Planet Jedward came out in 2010 and went to number one in the Irish charts. In 2011 Jedward even got famous outside the UK when they took part in the Eurovision Song Contest for Ireland. With the song ‘Lipstick’ they made it to eighth place. After that they were very successful in Europe too. 25 In 2012 they took part in the Eurovision Song Contest again and came in 19th place. However, the twin brothers aren’t only interested in music. Since 2010 they have been on different TV shows like Big Brother, OMG! Jedward’s Dream Factory and Jedward’s Big Adventure. And they have worked for charity projects to help children and animals. Of course, Jedward aren’t popular with everyone. Some people don’t like them and say the twin brothers can’t really sing and dance well. But their fans love them!
