Molluscs were exploited for Department of Zoology and industrial, edible and ornamental purposes and their extensive use has been reported way back from time Aquaculture, Acharya immemorial. Hence the present study was focused to investigate the diversity of Molluscan fauna along Nagarjuna University the Paleru and Moosy backwaters of Prakasam district during 2016-17 as these backwaters are not so far Nagarjuna Nagar, explored for malacofauna. A total of 23 species of molluscs (16 species of gastropods belonging to 12 Andhra Pradesh, India families and 7 species of bivalves representing 5 families) have been reported in the present study. Among these, gastropods such as Umbonium vestiarium, Telescopium telescopium and Pirenella cingulata, and bivalves like Crassostrea madrasensis and Meretrix meretrix are found to be the most dominant species in these backwaters. This is the last of a series of numerous finding of alien molluscs reports in the same area, for which a human-mediated model was supposed. An attempt to indicate the age of the specimens are here furnished on the basis of the number of byssus filaments. Some further environmental notes underline how in recent times these alien species seem better integrated inside the indigenous benthic communities in the Southern Mediterranean coasts, being better allowed in the first settlement by the recent climatic changes and resulting ecologically well organized and structured as in the tropical environments of provenance. Abstract: Community structure of bivalves and gastropods in roots of red mangrove Rhizophora mangle (Rhizophoraceae) in isla Larga, Mochima Bay, Venezuela. The Rhizophora mangle roots form a complex ecosystem where a wide range of organisms are permanently established, reproduce, and find refuge. In this study, we assessed the diversity of bivalves and gastropods that inhabit red mangrove roots, in isla Larga, Mochima, Venezuela Sucre state. Bimonthly collections were made from January 2007 to May 2008, in four study areas denominated: South, North, East and West. In each area, five mangrove roots were sampled, and the specimens were obtained. We analyzed a total of 180 roots and a total of 35 bivalve species and 25 gastropod species were found. The most abundant bivalves were: Isognomon alatus, Isognomon bicolor, Ostrea equestris, Crassostrea rhizophorae and Brachidontes exustus; among gastropods, the most common where: Littorina angulifera, Cymatium pileare and Diodora cayenensis. The months with the highest abundances and number of individuals for both groups were January and July 2007, and March 2008. The mangrove ecosystem in isla Larga, presented a number of individuals and species higher than those reported for other regions in Venezuela and the Caribbean. -

BARBARA STUDENCKA BIVALVES FROM THE BADENIAN (MIDDLE MIOCENE) MARINE SANDY FACIES OF SOUTHERN POLAND (Plates 1-18) STUDENCKA, B: Bivalves from the Badeni an (Middle Miocene) marine sandy facies of sou thern Poland. Palaeontologia Polonica, 47, 3-128, 1986. Taxonom ic studies of Bivalvia fro m the sandy facies of the K limont6w area (Holy Cross Mts.) of southern Poland indicate 99 species, 19 of which have previously not been reported from the Polish Miocene . Fo llowing species have previously not been known from the Miocen: Barbatia (Cafloarca) modioliformis and Montilora (M.) elegans (both Eocene), Callista (C.) sobrina (Oligocene), and Cerullia ovoides (Pliocenc). Pododesmus (Monia) squall/us and Gregariella corallio phaga a rc not iced for the first time in the fossil state. Twenty two species are revised and thei r taxon omic position are shifted. Two species: Chlamys tFlexo pecten) rybnicensis and Cardium iTrachycardiunn rybnicensis previously considered as endemic are here claimed to represent ontogenic stages of Chlamys (Flexo pecten) scissus and Laevi cardium (L.) dingdense respectively. BULLETIN OF MARINE SCIENCE, 30(1): 90-101, 1980 STUDIES ON THE BIOLOGY OF ISOGNOMON ALATUS GMELIN (BIVALVIA: ISOGNOMONIDAE) WITH NOTES ON ITS POTENTIAL AS A COMMERCIAL SPECIES Avril M. Siung ABSTRACT There is potential for development of lsognomon ala/us as a commercial species. Its ability to live in bottom sediments and on suspended collectors, intertidally, and subtidally, in widely fluctuating conditions of salinity and suspended matter, allows it to grow in a variety of environments. The primary prodissoconch larva was identified by the "indirect method" and described. A high percentage of ripe gonads was present in the population throughout the year. Peak spawning periods occurred after the onset of the rainy season when salinity decreased. The presence of eggs and sperms in the water induced other indi- viduals in the vicinity to spawn. Spatfall prediction is possible by monitoring salinity changes and larval concentrations in the water. Isognomon alatus is widely distributed throughout the Caribbean from Florida to Tobago. It is commonly found in mangrove swamps attached by byssus to the prop roots of the red mangrove tree (Rhizophora mangLe L.), attached to jetty pilings, or growing in bottom sediments in shallow water. Despite its abundance, very little is known about this species or genus. The only publication on I. alatus (Trueman and Lowe, 1970) deals with the effects of temperature and littoral exposure on heart rate. The only other available paper on the genus lsognomon (Yonge, 1968) is a comparative study between several species of Malleus and 1sognomon. Sample collection is conducted by using plot size of 1 x 1 meter, destructive sampling and non-destructive sampling methods. The results shows that macrobenthos inventory on Rubiah Island in Sabang, Aceh with destructive sampling methods is amounted to 8 species from 5 families, while Benthos obtained from non-destructive sampling methods is amounted to 8 species from 6 families. Macrobenthos inventory on the water of natural tourism area of Iboih beach Sabang. Diversity index is moderate with H '= 1.22061, and non-destructive value H' = 1.31391. Includes the category of moderate diversity. In Payau waters with destructive H'= 1.74816, nondestructive with a value of H' = 1.7104. Has a moderate diversity index. Macroentent inventory of the Teupin Layeu Mangrove Waters of Sabang City found 27 and 29 species of benthos. Among them (Meretrik meretrik) is amounted to 44, (Anadara cunearca) is amounted to 36 and many other species. With species diversity H'= 3, 2114 indicates a high level of species diversity.
