Parish & Role Profile for the Parish Priest (Oversight Minister) serving at: St Cyprian, Hay Mill & St Michael, South Yardley Prepared and Agreed by both parishes November 2018 Profile for Parish Priest of St Cyprian’s Hay Mills and St Michael’s South Yardley, page 1 PART A: INTRODUCTION This profile describes the role of parish priest for two neighbouring parishes in the eastern part of Church of England Birmingham in the deanery of Yardley and Bordesley. The role is an opportunity for a priest looking to serve in a city context with a variety of contexts, including significant inter faith work. In addition, the parishes offer a rich range of worshipping life, significant historic and contemporary buildings, good links into the local community and an industrial project at St Cyprian’s which places both historical and contemporary context and partnerships at the heart of mission. The previous incumbent was the first to be priest to both parishes and the relationship continues as part of the wider local group, known as the Swan Group. Following a review, the Bishop has been glad to affirm this role as fitting within his vision for mission and that expressed by the diocesan People and Places programme. The majority context for these parishes is urban on the edge of the central part of Birmingham moving out towards the suburbs and Solihull. St Cyprians is set beside a busy main road, next to retail and industrial sites and has a historic building from 1874 with a modern hall nearby. St Michael’s sits within a largely residential setting a little further out with a modern building of considerable beauty fitting their more high catholic style of worship, with adjacent hall and vicarage across a large site. -

Volume 27.1 March 2003 75±89 International Journal of Urban and Regional Research Making Space for Sex Work: Female Street Prostitution and the Production of Urban Space PHIL HUBBARD and TEELA SANDERS Introduction It has been widely asserted that the female prostitute constitutes a central figure in the social imagination, playing an important symbolic role in the definition of moral standards. For example, many commentators have noted that the street prostitute has been stereotypically depicted as a motif of degeneracy, contagion and sexual lasciviousness, and hence a threat to male bourgeois values (Walkowitz, 1992; O’Neill, 2001). Similarly, the idea that the criminalization of street prostitution has been a means of establishing wider notions of what is socially and morally acceptable has also been widely documented (Duncan, 1996). Yet there have been few studies that have related these general ideas to specific spaces, detailing how female prostitution is implicated in the making of urban orders. Exceptions note that prostitution tends to be concentrated in particular areas, but say little of the processes by which these spaces are produced. For example, while Symanski (1981) provided an extensive mapping of the varied ‘immoral landscapes’ existing in different historical and geographical contexts, his work made little mention of the appropriation, occupation and use of these landscapes, particularly the way they are shaped by female sex workers. Equally, Ashworth et al. (1988) sought to extend Symanski’s analysis, theorizing the location of vice in the city as the outcome of consumer choice within socio-legal constraints, but ignored the way that sex workers create red-light districts through their distinctive spatial practices (which change according to legislative climate, levels of mutual support, client demand and so on — see Brewis and Linstead, 2000). -

Results 3.1 During the month of February 2018 the following cases were heard at Birmingham Magistrates Court, unless otherwise stated: . Three Licensing cases were finalised resulting in fines of £1,160 and prosecution costs of £1,868. Six penalty points were issued and a six month driving disqualification was imposed. 10 simple cautions were administered as set out in Appendix 1. 118 Environmental Health cases resulted in fines of £35,429. Prosecution costs of £17,924 were awarded. One simple caution was administered as set out in Appendix 2. There were no Trading Standards cases finalised in February 2018 and no simple cautions were administered as set out in Appendix 3. Appendix 4 lists cases finalised by district in February 2018 and cases finalised by district April - February 2018. Appendix 5 lists the enforcement activity undertaken by the Waste Enforcement Team from April 2017 to January 2018. 4. Consultation 4.1 The Enforcement Policy that underpins the work identified in this report is approved by your Committee.
