General Characteristics of the District Siddharthnagar is one of the District of Uttar Pradesh state in Northern India. Navgarh town is the district headquarters. Siddhartnagar district was created on December 29, 1988 out of Basti district.The district was named Gautam Buddha childhood name Siddartha . Siddharthnagar is adjacent to Nepal. To its east is the district of Maharajganj, to the south Basti and Sant Kabir Nagar, and in the west Balrampur district. Total population of the district as per 2011 census is 2,553,526. Out of the total population around 16% of the population belongs to the scheduled castes & Muslims constitutes around 29% of the population. According to the Government of India, the district Siddharthnagar is one of the Minority concentrated District in India 1.1 Location & Geographical Area. The Siddhartnagar district lies between 270 N to 270 28’ N and 820 45’ E to 830 10’ E. It is part of Purvanchal Uttar Pardesh. The district borders Nepal’s Kapilvastu district on the north and Rupandehi on the northeast. Otherwise it is surrounded by other districts of Uttar Pradesh Maharajganj on the east, Basti and Sant Kabir Nagar on the south, and Balrampur on the west .The total geographical area of the district Siddharthnagar is 2,752 Sq. Km . 3 1.2 Topography The district located adjacent Nepal & down of Haimalya , known as Trai area. The most of land are fertile, main crop rice, wheat, Sarson & potato , Kalanamak variety of rice very popular . The District agriculture depends with rain water and weather; most of season gets good weather & rain water. 1.3 Availability of Minerals. No Major mineral deposits are available in the district. Only silica sand is collected from the river banks. As given in the following table, 294232 tonnes sand was produced during the year 2010-11. PRODUCTION OF MINERAL 2010-11 S.NO. Siddharthnagar District headquarter is Navgarh, for administrative purpose the district has been divided in to 5 tehsils , 14 Block and 1 Panchayt Samities . There are 152 revenue villages and 999 Gram Panchyat and 2314 inhabited villages and 191 are uninhabited. 2.
