Plant Inventory No. 214 Is the Official Listing of Plant Materials Accepted Into the U.S United States Department of Agriculture Plant Inventory Agricultural Research Service No. 214 Plant Materials Introduced in 2005 (Nos. 636445 - 641917) Foreword Plant Inventory No. 214 is the official listing of plant materials accepted into the U.S. National Plant Germplasm System (NPGS) between January 1 and December 31, 2005 and includes PI 636445 to PI 641917. The NPGS is managed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Agricultural Research Service (ARS). The information on each accession is essentially the information provided with the plant material when it was obtained by the NPGS. The information on an accession in the NPGS database may change as additional knowledge is obtained. The Germplasm Resources Information Network (http://www.ars-grin.gov/npgs/index.html) is the database for the NPGS and should be consulted for the current accession and evaluation information and to request germplasm. Information on the effect of genotypes on oleaster-leafed pear fruit characteristics is needed in order to optimize production of quality food and dietary supplements. The characteristics of oleaster-leafed pear fruits relative to genetic background were evaluated from 16 wild grown oleaster-leafed pear genotypes at eastern Turkey. Genotype influenced ripening dates, fruit weight, fruit length/width ratio, fruit pedicel length, fruit flesh texture, fruit firmness, the number of seeds per fruit, soluble solid content, titratable acidity, total phenolic content, total flavonoid content and antioxidant activity. Analysis of the data obtained from 16 oleaster-leafed pear genotypes demonstrated a highly significant influence of genotype on fruit characteristics. Ancestors spotlight The Endicott Contribution in the War of 1812 It is my hope that all of you will take the time to read this short synopsis of the Endicott family and its contributions during the War of 1812. As Gordon has been reporting, our theme at the 2008 Reunion in New Harmony, Indiana will be our family connections with the War of 1812, and we will be dedicating a memorial stone honoring those who participated during the War at the Poseyville cemetery – the same location where we dedicated the Thomas Endicott (1737-1831) monument in 2006. I hope that this will spur your interest in coming this year. The War of 1812 is not very well known and often passed over in studies of American history. It was our second war with Great Britain who, among other things, burned the White House. In recent years, a renovation went on at the White House and when they removed the seventeen layers of paint, the residue of smoke and suet were still there.
