THE WEEKLY CHALLENGER, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2011 11 COMMUNITY NEWS

COMMUNITY continued from front page cially beneficial this year was the separating of children and adults so that each age group could partici- pate and be fully engaged in age- appropriate activities. The children had the options of decorating and making Christmas cards. They continued with activities like ornament making, Christmas cookie decorat- ing, performing a Christmas Rap, singing carols and watching Christmas themed videos. Volunteers from Job Corp even donated their time in the nursery facility that was wonderfully filled with young children. Children who were 12 and up participated in the same activities as their parents. Adults and teenagers were able to fellowship with the different ministries offered at St. Mark, enjoy performances by the St. Mark Unity Choir and a mini-sermon by Pastor Brian K. Brown. After the families were reunited, everyone proceeded to lunch outside where ministry drawings, bouncy houses and kickball were all available for the families. Everywhere you turned was a smiling face, either from a St. Mark church member, a child or a parent. Soon after lunch was blessed and began, designated adopted families were called up to receive their gifts. The joy was in the giving as families were overwhelmed with surprise that their Christmas wishes had been answered. As a result, 95 children were blessed and St. Mark was blessed with a larger extended family. It is outreach efforts such as these that highlight the reason for the season: giving, sharing and caring. 12 THE WEEKLY CHALLENGER, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2011
