La ricordiamo giovane marciatrice negli anni a cavallo tra i giochi Olimpici di Atene e quelli di Beijing, e abbiamo avuto il piacere di contattarla chiedendole questa spumeggiante intervista che proponiamo di seguito ai nostri lettori. 1.- Quando hai cominciato a marciare ? Hai auto qualche difficoltà nell'apprendere il gesto o ti ė venuto quasi naturale ? Ho iniziato a correre (campestri e mezzofondo) quando avevo 11 anni, ma purtroppo a causa di alcuni problemi di asma da forzo, a 14 anni ho deciso di passare alla "meno intensa” marcia. Non ho avuto difficoltà a imparare la tecnica che era abbastanza naturale per me. 2.- Come sono stati nella tua vita sportiva i rapporti con i tuoi allenatori ? She did understandably slow from there on but her finishing time of 47:00 was a 2:22 PB. It is a shame that she is too young for this year's World Junior Champs but she is eligible to contest the World Cup and, like Jesse, is an automatic selection as winner of the trial. • 19 year old Jesse also strode straight to the lead in the Junior Men's race and was on target for a sub-41 at the 6km mark before fading slightly in the warming morning conditions.

For Jared, it was another fantastic top-eight finish and it was in the lesser of his two Olympic events. With the Olympic 50km event this week, Jared upped the ante even further, taking his second successive Olympic 50km silver medal and recording a 2+ minute PB time of 3:36:53, also breaking the Olympic record into the bargain. What a performance! Walker of the Week! 50KM MEN'S RACEWALK, OLYMPIC GAMES, THE MALL, LONDON, SATURDAY 11 AUGUST 2012 The men's Olympic 50km walk started at 9AM at the Mall in London and I was one of the many spectators who lined the 2km loop to cheer on the contestants. Unfortunately conditions could not have been much more challenging with gale force winds buffeting the walkers as they contested our annual 'Beat your Season Best' races. With prizes on offer, everyone was out to race hard and we actually saw plenty of people beat their Season Bests and some even doing PBs. The winners of each division (ie those who beat their SB by the most) are shown with an *. Terry Swan was in action with the camera once again and has already uploaded nearly 100 photos (including from our end of season presentations) to our photo gallery - http://vrwc.org.au/coppermine. What a great effort. Frances Attard was at work with video camera as well so I will advise when it goes online on YouTube. First to our 10km events where we saw two wonderful first up efforts by 13 yo Emily Hamilton (1:00:46) and 10 yo Mikhala Hodges (1:09:00). Both set new club records - Emily U14 and Mikhala U12 and U13.

All finished their events in the very tough conditions, battling through temperatures in the thirties and high humidity. Jemima (6 th) and Rhydian (8th) led the way with top- 8 finishes, Declan and Rhydian recorded PBs and Bec, the youngest competitor in the women’s 20km, walked excellently, just like all the others.
