Changing the settings for Text Boxes that you can draw

The default font in any new PowerPoint 2007 presentation is Calibri, 18 pt, black, for text boxes other than the ones that are part of the default design template (ex. text boxes you can draw). If you wish to go back to the PowerPoint 2003 settings, the default font style and size for textboxes in PowerPoint 2003 is Arial, 18 pt. If you are making a new PowerPoint 2007 presentation and do not want to have to change the font each time you add a new text box in the current presentation, the solution is simple.

1. Open PowerPoint 2007. Create a new blank presentation if you do not have one already open. 2. Click on the “Insert” tab on the Ribbon. 3. In the “Text” group, click on the “Text Box” button. 4. Click and drag on your slide to draw a text box to a specific size. 5. Select a new font and size from the Ribbon and make any other selections (ex. color). 6. Right-click on the border of the new text box and choose “Set as Default Text Box” from the shortcut menu.

Once you change the default font, all future text boxes in the current presentation, will take on these properties, but text boxes that you had already created earlier, will not be affected. You will have to manually change those text boxes.

NOTE It is a good idea to make this change right at the start of your presentation, before you create additional slides. Remember! You will have to do this for every presentation you create if you want to go back to the PowerPoint 2003 settings.
